Unemployment Mathematics

It's time for another VUBOQ Math Lesson!

46,000 (manufacturing jobs lost) +

11,000 (motor vehicle and parts jobs lost) +

22,000 (construction jobs lost) =

79,000 jobs lost

Now for some Washington Post Mathematics:

46,000 + 11,000 + 22,000 = Employers Cut 4,000 Jobs in August

Can anyone explain this?

  1. Don't even get me started on the manipulation of statistics that has been going on since 2001. Let's not forget that these are the same people who tell us that inflation has been just fine (if we exclude food and gas prices (You know, the two major categories of things that people actually buy)).

  2. Math is inscrutable.
