Weekend Update: Operatic Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! What a weekend!  It was definitely too short.  At least this coming week is only a four-day week for me!  and a four-day weekend!  BUT, enough looking ahead.  Let's look back and reflect ... My work week was pretty much the usual exercises in clusterfuckery.  I did have a phone interview.  We'll see how that goes.  I think the job would be interesting.  And I think it will pay more.  Not sure if I impressed them during the interview or not, though.  Oh, well.  We'll see ... I also got the bid for my kitchen remodeling project - $15,000.  Not including appliances.  My parents were supposed to be helping me pay for it.  But, after talking with my mother tonight, I'm not so sure I want their help.  Although I'm also not sure how I will pay for it otherwise.  Ugh.  There was too much "that's too expensive" and "you should find another contractor" and "you should get lower...

Weekend Update: Winter Gala Edition

Image
Good afternoon, kittens. Last night was my company's Winter Gala! Since I would know all of about 3 people (out of about 400), I invited the Fabulous ShallowGal to be my "date." Let's just say that, in a conservative company made up mostly of retired military, we caused a bit of confusion. She has kids? And a husband? And it's not you? Correct! Can you spot the bad hairpiece? Anyway, here are a few photos from the evening ... (one of us has a new camera that he still hasn't quite figured out) ... Hmm... Maybe a little better? Almost there ... Fourth time's the charm, no? Anyway, the booze was good (and free!). The food was typical hotel ballroom fare. And, my hot date was the best! So all in all a pretty good evening. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'm off tomorrow too. Yayz! *smooches*

No One Reads Blogs on Friday Evening. Except Maybe Me.

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! I totally meant to post this morning ... except -well- I had a "visitor." Remember how I mentioned previously that I was stood up? Or, (after reading my last post) maybe I didn't. Perhaps, it was on Twitter. Hm. Or maybe I didn't there either. ANYWAY, Wednesday evening, I was supposed to have a date. But he never showed. Yesterday though, he texted and had a Very Good Excuse. Trust me. SO, I invited him over last night. He was having dinner with friends and drove over after that. We talked and watched a movie. And then we made out. And we ended up having a little happy sleepover. (And, just so you don't think I fall into bed with every guy on the first date (which I don't), I have been chatting with this guy since early May. But he was out west and only recently moved back to the Old Line State.) Yeah. So it was fun. I see there being some potential. Also some potential problems. But, whatever. We're going to let it...

I Should Be Cleaning

Image
Good Saturday Afternoon, my sweet, sweet kittens! I should be cleaning right now, but I realized that I haven't blogged about my life. And that is *so* much more important that doing the housecleaning. Right? Work has been a Basket Full of Insanity. I am trying to stay out of the swirling eddies of gossip, misinformation, and distrust. Head down. Eyes open. And get the job done. Which for me, right now, means planning for Energy Awareness Month (October) and gathering data for the end of the fiscal year reports. Fun. Times. Srsly. Next week, I have to be ubermotivated. Fingers crossed that it will happen. I've got a pretty awesome weekend so far underway. Yesterday, after work, I rushed home (if one defines "rush" as "the metro ride takes about an 45 minutes longer than usual because of a train with mechanical problems at Fort Totten Station and having to offload the train I was on at New York Avenue"), changed clothes, got my stuff together, and ...

Weekend Update: Suburban 4th Edition

Image
Hello, Kittens! Did we all have a fabulous, SuperSparkly 4th of July? I hope we did! As for me, my weekend was chock full of boozy, delicious fun! On Friday, I spent the morning/afternoon doing housework-type things ... like laundry and mowing/weeding the lawn. And, taking some pants to the tailor to be hemmed. In the evening, I met A (the guy who looks like the Cheating Cheater) for drinks/dinner at Nellie's. Boozy fun. Although, this was our first "date" ... I guess. Normally, he just comes over here for hours of teh hot secks. Now, we are having, like, conversations and stuff. I'm not sure if I like where this is going ;-) ... Srsly. I like him. But, I don't know if he's the kind of person I want to *really* like. Friend w/ Benefits or regular FB would be good. Something more? I'm not so sure... Saturday morning, he left to go to work. I blobbed around the house. Then, SCGB and I headed out to (near) Greenbelt for a birthday party. It w...

I Totally Lied About This Post Being More Interesting

Good Morning, Kittens! So, yeah, BOSSY ? She's in Casa de VUBOQ right. this. minute. Asleep. Like a little angel (I assume, because the door to BOSSY's Guest Room is closed). BOSSY's No Book Tour DC Meet-up was so much fun. Shallowgal was there (and she really did go to Nicaragua for Spring Break. I saw photos!)! And Lumpyhead's Mom ! and some other bloggers whose links I haven't found yet ... like, Mary and Laura and Jill and Deeeeeeeeeee-ohn and Lauren (who drove all the way from Annapolis, yo!) and did I leave anyone out? Hmm .... I don't think so. And, guess who did not take a single picture? Yeah. That would be me. Oops. My bad. But everyone else did. Go to their blogs (which I haven't linked to, so good luck!) and look at all the fun times which were had! Srsly. Fun times! It totally made me forget my craptastic day of clusterfuckery at work. Yayz. Grrlpower and beer (and fried pickles), that's all you need to forget your woes....

Weekend Update: Ack! BOSSY's Linked to Me Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I awoke this morning to discover that BOSSY (*waves to BOSSY*) has linked to me . Yay! BUT, GAH! VUBOQ wasn't really planning to have new content today. BUT, I would hate to disappoint my regular reader (*waves to Anne-Marie in Philly*) and the one or two people who will click over ... so ... um ... lessee ... The funnest thing that happened this weekend was on Saturday night. I went to the free simulcast of The Barber of Seville at the National Stadium (National's Stadium? Nationals' Stadium? AT&T UPS Pepsi Stadium?). It was totally awesome. And, not only because I got to hang-out with the Most Awesome ShallowGal and her Posse. It's also because every time I hear "Barber of Seville" I think of this . It was good to hear the real thing. The opera was fun. The company was fabulous. Good times, kittens. Good times. Sunday, I did a lot of blobbing and some knitting. After finishing two baby hats, I'm starting a hat for...
Good Morning, Kittens. Y defends his dissertation this morning. Send good vibes. Why? Because the better he does, the faster he is outta here! And that's good news for both of us. In other news, I worked a bit on my short story. I am liking the characters. I am liking the situation they are in. However, I have come to a point where I am unable to see how it is going to be resolved. Hm. Tricky. We'll see how it goes. It's rainy and gray today ... which is good writing weather, I think. Perhaps, I'll be able to write through it. Or knit and think for a bit. No big weekend plans, except for the free outdoor simulcast of The Barber of Seville tomorrow evening. If all goes as planned, there will be a Very Shallow Guest Star (+ Posse). And, it's 12 of 12 tomorrow. Look forward to fun photos, I'm sure ... especially since I have never been able to take a very good photo of said Very Shallow Guest Star. Exhibit A . Exhibit B . Exhibit C . (Srsly, she...

Weekend Update: Unemploymentiversary Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! I hope you all had as much fun this weekend as I did. On Friday, I headed over to CNTBD's house for lunch. He made a fabulous salad. And, somehow, we managed to drink a bottle of wine. Hm. Dessert was ice cream with mini eclairs. Delish! Around 2:30, I staggered to the metro station to head into the DeeCee. I ended up at the Barnes and Noble (they now have free wifi), had some coffee (to sober up), and then shopped for a book. Recently, while cleaning, I found a B&N gift card. I called the toll-free number on the back and learned that it still had $7.99 on it. Score! In the bargain bin, I found a book by Amy Tan, Saving Fish from Drowning , which I have been wanting to read. And it was only $6.98. Yay. Book purchased, I took a meandering photo walk to the metro station and headed to Nellie's. Tomokito and Mike (Who Makes Cakes) met me there later. We had many cheap drinks and lots of fun. Tomokito left to get home to teh baby. Mike and ...

Weekend Update: Party and Boats Edition

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens! Saturday day was pretty much a wash. I slept. A lot. And then I took a nap. And then I had to run around like a crazy person because how did it get to be 530PM already and I need to leave the house at 6ish to get to Shallowgal 's Birthday Party on time? The party was at Dino in Cleveland Park. Lots and lots (and lots) of booze. And appetizers. And food ... like this: which VUBOQ didn't eat, of course ... but there was also lots of vegetarian items. Hurrah. Shallowgal is so thoughtful and wonderful and has BOOBS OUT TO HERE*! Anyway, at the party I met lots of Shallowgal's friends. And, guess what? Not all Virginian Suburbanites are Scary! Isn't that great? After the party, I staggered home, and ran into SCGB, who gave me a ride. Which was awesome because it was pissing it down rain. Sunday morning, SCGB and I met Maura, the German's girlfriend, for brunch in DC. Fun times. She's so nice. And, she's heading to Germany...

A Very Shallow Lunch Date

Image
Good (Practically) Evening, Kittens! I had a totally fabulous lunch at Sette with the even more fabulous ShallowGal : And the youngest of her spawn: Who, while cute as the dickens, did nothing to awaken any sort of latent Parental Yearning on my part. Srsly. Kids are great ... when they are someone else's. After stuffing ourselves silly on super yummy pizza, we went swimming! OK. No, we didn't. But, when you have a photo of ShallowGal in goggles at a restaurant, the Laws of Blogging require you to post it. Thanks for a SuperFun time, ShallowGal! *smooches* I'm headed out for a happy hour later tonight with some of my neighbors. Good times, yo!
