In Money Matters, Money Matters.

Something has gone horribly awry with my budget. I don't have a copy of my budget here at work, and not being able to work on it to figure out why my budget and my bank account are not in positive alignment is totally stressing me out. *deep breaths* I currently don't have enough cash in my checking account to cover my monthly bills. This is usually not the case. I will have to transfer money from my savings, but I want to know why this happened. I'm thinking the problem is either a) rather than charge it! I used more cash than usual or b) somewhere there is a spreadsheet error in one of my budget columns. It's a good thing my sewing class check got lost in the mail, because in a few days, it is going to magically transform into rubber. Alchemy is COOL . I will not be taking the sewing class this summer. The financial hatches are about to be battoned.

The Lady or the Tiger?

Or, in my case, teh sex or teh sewing? Mike reminded me that the sewing class I'm interested in taking begins on June 25th (6:45PM-8:45PM), which -as we all know- just so happens to be the day of my happy happy sex-filled reunion with Y. AUGH! What to do? I need to call the registrar, because -apparently- my registration check and application never arrived. So, this whole dilemma may not come about if I can't get into the class ... even though I mailed the check last month . What up with that, DC and MD postal carriers? Y was very sweet and offered to reschedule or come over after the class. I was like, um, no. So, I'm hoping that -if I can get into the class now- missing the first lesson will not be detrimental to my sewing career. Priorities, kittens. It's all about priorities.

Here's a picture of my new sewing machine. I looked up the model number, and she was made in 1955 in Scotland. Aye, Lassie. The Singer website didn't have an instruction manual for my model, so I've emailed them for assistance. Hopefully, they will get back to me soon. When I got home from work last night, I made a martini using Plymouth English Dry, the New York Times best martini gin. With the first sip, I thought, "OMG, I'm never using Bombay Sapphire again!" I don't think it's as good as Leopold's Gin (from Ann Arbor), but it was quite lovely. Perhaps a bit too sweet (but that could have been my fault with too much vermouth), but a nice citrusy taste with lingering juniper flavors. Mmmm. Quite the martini experience. Then, I met some neighbors at Mandalay for dinner. So. Very. Yum. I tried a noodle dish I had never had before. It was totally awesome. After dinner, I waddled home, watched the end of Thank You for Smoking , and blobbed around th...

Sewnito Ergo Sum

Exciting news, kittens! The fabulicious Tomokito closes on her apartment today at 10AM [send "Good Closing Vibes"]! And that apartment just so happens to be right above mine ! One of my best friends (We met two days after I moved to DC in August '99) is going to be my New Directly Upstairs Neighbor! EX-CITE-MENT! Martinis, yo. It's all about Martini-Driven Happy Hours! ANYWAY, closing today means that Soon-to-be Former Directly Upstairs Neighbor is in town. I now am the proud owner of a 1958 Singer Sewing Machine! *woot* Curtains, kittens! I can make curtains! And supercute retro fabric ringer tees! Or, at least, I can make them after I figure out 1) how to work a 1958 Singer Sewing Machine and B) how to sew. Last night, after posting about the herbs and the BBQ chickpea salad served over bug-ridden rice (YUM), I got to hang out with Soon-to-be Former Directly Upstairs Neighbor, Upstairs Neighbor, and In Another Building Across the Way Neighbor. Neighborly Goodness! ...

Weekend Update: Cough Hack Edition

Morning, Kittens. So, let's run down the excitement of the weekend: I caught a cold and spent the entire weekend indoors, napping, knitting, and surfing the web. *woot* I am blaming the boss [No, not Bruce Springsteen, *my* boss]. He was sick on Thursday and out on Friday. It is all his fault. I hates him. Needless to say, the potential date on Saturday did not happen. We chatted on Sunday morning. The reason he did not return my call was that my phone message was garbled and staticky. Stupid cell phones. Why do they always crap out at the last moment? It's probably a good thing, though. I needed to stay in. So, Saturday night, I watched In the Mood for Love , which I thought was amazingly beautiful. Tony Leung is super HOT. *rowr* And, can I just say I totally*heart*ed Maggie Cheung's 1960s dresses. They inspired an idea for once I get my sewing machine and learn how to use it! I'm so excited. And, I know it will be the Next Big Thing. *heh* Sunday, I d...

The Weekend Awaits

OMG. I am so fucking looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. I have not been sleeping well recently. I am not nearly as cranky today, but I feel like I am on the brink. It won't take much to push me over. Tread softly around me. Speak in hushed tones. Ply me with coffee and chocolates. And all will be well. Last night was laundry night. *woot* I ran into a couple of neighbors. Always fun to chat with them. I found out that the reason my side of the building never gets mulched is because the co-op only pays to have the middle section of the lawn mulched. Quoth the subject heading of an email from one of my neighbors on the Board: "Full Frontal Mulching." The Board will reimburse us for the mulch if we do it ourselves. Which we will, because it looks like crap. And, next year, the co-op will pay to have that bit mulched too. As god as my witness, I will never mulch again! (after this time) Also, one of the Upstairs Neighbors is going to take the sewing class with Mike and ...

Ah. Spring.

Image
Robins Candy-colored trees Vernal Equinox These are the signs of Spring, for some. Me? I have been too heavily influenced by my upbringing to rely solely on these signs from nature. For me, Spring has truly begun with the celebration of one of the most important events of the year ... The Resurrection of Our Lord and Saviour, the Shirtless Soccer Player. Yea, verily I say unto you, the first Shirtless Soccer Player was spotted yesterday evening at approximately 6:30PM. And, there was much rejoicing. Spring has SPRUNG! *schwiiiiiing* Meanwhile, on my way to my departing neighbor's happy hour in beautiful, happenin' downtown Silver Spring, I stopped off at Border's to buy Mika's CD, Life in Cartoon Motion . I know. I'm overbudget for March, but I blame GayProf and Scott-o-Rama , who won't shut up about (or quit stalking) Mika. Fortunately, I could use some of my Borders Rewards Certificates. So, technically, I paid $1.54 for the CD [or $1,001.54, if you want to i...

Weekend in Review: Host Edition

Saturday. The upstairs neighbor's birthday party was FUN-tastic! Lots of good food and booze and interesting people and fun conversation. I think she liked her present: a super-cute purse made out of Strawberry Tea Juice containers from the Philippines (like CapriSun containers). So. Very. Cute. I got home around 2:15. Was a little intoxicated. Tripped in my bedroom, ripping off a toenail (ow) and hitting my shoulder pretty hard (ow). It still hurts a little. Inspired by Mac 's sewing adventures, I have purchased a 1950s Singer Sewing Machine from another upstairs neighbor, who is moving. $30. It comes in a cute little hideaway table thing. I'll try to find a photo or take one at some point. The funny thing? I've never sewn anything before in my life. But, I have this desire to take some of the sarongs I bought in SE Asia and turn them into curtains, or funky blinds of some sort. I'll get it when he sells his place and moves out the rest of his furniture. I also tr...
