Bed Blogging

Good morning, Kittens, and greetings from where all the action happens - VUBOQ's bed!

A funny thing happened yesterday. Instead of spending my extra day off shopping for new furniture and running other errands, I spent it in total agony. My back had been bothering me slightly for about 2 weeks. But, over the weekend it felt better.

On Monday, I woke up pain-free, made coffee and sat on the sofa to work on my computer for a bit. An hour and a half later, when I stood up, there was major back pain. I decided to go back to bed to see if it would feel better. It didn't. In fact, it got worse. And I started to panic.

My phone was in the living room and my front door was locked. No one could get in if I called for help. Not that i could call for help. Because the pain was so bad that I couldn't stand up, I forced myself to crawl to the living room to get my phone and unlock the door. Then, I fell asleep. I called a neighbor. And I emailed my doctor, who faxed a prescription for pain meds and a muscle relaxant.

My neighbor has been very good - checking on me, providing a heat pad, bringing me food, and picking up my pain meds. The muscle relaxant won't be in until this afternoon. Looking forward to that!

So that's my story. Pain. Agony. Trying to use the toilet when I can't stand or sit without extreme pain. Good times. One more hour 'til my next Happy Pill.

If you have my phone number, text me. I'm bored. Or take your turns in WWF (I'm sed317) and DrawSomething (I'm sed317md). Entertain me!

And, have a great day!

Weekend Update: LIke a Good Neighbor Edition

Good Morning, Kittens! Grab a cup of coffee and let's chat about our weekends ...

Friday, I had a chill evening at home, watching Charlie's Angels, Season 1, on DVD.  Oh, yeah.  Good times.  A HUGE storm came through, so that was fun.  Luckily, my building didn't lose power.

On Saturday, I did lots of blobbing around the house.  And I cooked up some of my CSA veggies.  I did a stirfry with sweet onion, green squash, and tatsoi (which is some weird Asian leafy green).  AND, I threw in a jalapeno that I grew in my "garden."

That afternoon, Tomokito had a small gathering at her apartment.  K-Factor and the Canadian were there.  And Eric from Baltimore came down.  And, I invited V (not the V in Philly, the V that lives up the road a ways).  Lots of boozy good times.  Then, V, Eric from Baltimore and I went to dinner.  Yummy Yummy Thai Foods.  Mmmm.  Tasty.

After dinner, Eric from Baltimore headed back to Baltimore and V and I headed over to the Avalon Theatre.  Last year, at the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington's Gala, I won a ticket package (two tickets, popcorn, two sodas) in the silent auction.  I sort of forgot I had them, and they were set to expire this month.  So, V and I went to see Hysteria.  It was cute.   Funny, but not hysterical (see what I did there?).  I am glad I saw it for "free."

On Sunday morning, I woke up early and went for a 7.25 mile run, while it was still cool-ish.  Then, I went to the pottery studio.  I trimmed and attached handles on two mugs.  The three big bowls I made are still not ready to trim.  Hopefully they will be by next Sunday.  I also threw a vase.

That afternoon, Tomokito came down and Mike (Who Makes Cakes) came over and we watched Battle Royale, a Japanese movie that is similar to The Hunger Games.  It was a good movie.  Very interesting.  The twist is that the kids in the Japanese movie are classmates, so they all know each other.  One would imagine that killing friends is more difficult than killing strangers.

After the movie, Mike and I went to dinner.  El Golfo was closed for a wedding party (boo), so we went to El Gavilon.  The food there was good.  But it was karaoke night.  Loud Spanish karaoke night.  Good times.

And, there you have it.  I am also off today with plans to go to the grocery store to buy kitty litter and go furniture shopping in Alexandria.  I also have to iron.  I have so much fun.

Have a great day!  *smooches*

Weekend and Mid-Week Update: I Would Have Blogged Sooner If I Hadn't Been So Overhung Edition

Good Evening, Kittens!

I have a precious few spare minutes, so I thought I would take a few moments to update you on my SuperFascinating Life!  Don't you feel special?

I'm sure you do.

Anyway, the Big Excitement last weekend was Tomokito's Green Card Party on Saturday.  Hallelujah!  She (and her husband) is (are) finally (a) legal resident alien(s) (or whatever the term is).

Apparently, some time back, Tomokito and I were sitting around drinking (imagine!) and I drunkenly slurred something along the lines of "if you ever get your Green Card, I will buy you a pair of Manolos."

I have NO recollection of ever saying that.  However, the first thing Tomokito did after finding out that she *may* be getting her Green Card was to say, "Woo hoo!  You have to buy me a pair of Manolos."

Which, after all the expense she put into getting the GC, I was happy to oblige.  Fortunately, Tomokito has many, many friends who all love her dearly.  They were happy to contribute to-what I dubbed- the Manolo Fund.

And, at her party, we presented her with the Very Tomokito, Very Beautiful, Very Sparkly Manolos pictured above.

Also, we drank a lot.

Oh, and the party was held in both our apartments: Bar Steven and Club Tomokito.   If you knew the password, you could enter.  Ha!  Lots of people.  Lots of food.  Lots of good times. Did I mention we drank a lot?

Sunday.  Very.  Over.  Hung.

Sunday evening, I met my friends (and newlyweds!), Barbie and Ken, for dinner at Mandalay.  YUM!  Except I was still a bit overhung and couldn't eat (much) or be super entertaining.  Gah.

Monday morning, I was also a bit draggy. Grrrr.  And at work.  Which sucks most of the time.

Tuesday, we got our CSA Veggies.  And, I broke a shoelace.  AND, I went to K's for an Adult Sleepover.  Yay!

Except, there wasn't much sleeping.

Today = Very Groggy.

BUT, I (and 2 co-workers) did go to a yummy Pho place for lunch.

And, now, I am celebrating Summer Day 1 with a martini (or two)!

Also, I am doing laundry.

I do have all the fun. I know you are totes jealous.

Week Update: Where Does the Time Go Edition

Happy Friday, Kittens!

And, seriously, what happened to this week?  It started, like, yesterday.  And, now, it is over.  Sheesh.

So, Monday, was my regular day off.  Yay for flex-time!  I went to the Trader Joe's.  And, then, I went to the pottery studio.  I made this.  And this.  And this.

On Tuesday, after work, it was my turn to pick up our CSA Farm Share Veggies.  See pictured chard (which I later cooked with olives and lemon.  So tasty!).  I also got some green squash, some sort of onion thing, broccoli, and some red-skinned potatoes.  Hail to the Redskins, bitches!

And, I had to attend our monthly co-op board meeting.  Joy.

On Wednesday, there was laundry.

And, yesterday, I had to make a cole slaw for today's work barbeque.  I made a red cabbage, hot and sour slaw.  It looked like this:

Hot-and-Sour Cole Slaw for tomorrow's work bbq.

Also, during the week, I did some Major shopping.  I bought some Cute New Shoes (surprised?) and a Cute New Very GAY T-shirt and Season Tickets to the Kennedy Center.

The last one was the most expensive.  My co-worker, Dana, and I will be going to 6 shows ... Warhorse, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, White Christmas, The Book of Mormon, and two others (a play and a musical), the names of which I have forgotten.

Sometimes it's fun to pretend that I have money and all this shopping isn't driving me deeper and deeper into debt.   Good times.

And, there are big plans this weekend.  Tomorrow is Tomokito's Green Card Party.  And, on Sunday, I'm going to the pottery studio and having dinner with Barbie and Ken.  Yayz!

Hope your week was fab and your weekend will be even better.

Weekend Update: Inside We Are All the Same Edition

Good Evening, Kittens!

Pride Weekend comes to a close. And, I did absolutely nothing Pride related, other than being Gay and Out and About.  Which, I suppose, is the point of the whole thing.

SO, on Friday, I left work a *smidge* early to go to the doctor.  Good times.  Luckily, all is well :-) ... Then, I booked it to Union Station and hopped on a train to Baltimore.

My friend, V from Philly, wanted to meet up for the Orioles-Philly baseball game.  So, I was all like, OK.  As long as it doesn't go into extra quarters or anything. (and there ends my "haha VUBOQ doesn't know anything about sports even though during the game, much to the surprise of V, he accurately called a particular hit as a ground rules double" joke).

The game was fun.  Much beer was drunk.

Here's a picture of us at the game:

Baseball! Sport! Dribble! Court! It's not the cutest picture I took, but, if you're a friend of mine on the Facebooks, you've seen the cutest picture already

After the game, we went out for foodz.  To Maisy's.  Somewhere in downtown Baltimore.  It was tasty.  And the drinks were on a Late Night Happy Hour.  w00t!

Then, we drove to Eric from Baltimore's place, where we had another drink.  Watched some VH1.  Talked a bit.  And then fell asleep.

On the floor.  Eric from Baltimore only has one bed.  So V and I had a sleeping bag and a blanket.  And I learned that I might be too old for the whole floor-sleeping thing.  The next morning?  Very owie.

We all got cleaned up and headed out for brunch ... to Miss Shirley's.  It was superdelicious.   Then, Eric from Baltimore went to work.  V drove me to the train station and headed out.  And I took the train back to the DeeCee.

When I finally got home, I was so. very. tired.  I took a nap.  And woke up way too late to make it to the DC Capitol Pride Parade.  Oh, well.

Instead, Tomokito and I went to dinner at Pacci's ... a yummy little pizza place on Georgia Avenue.  OMG.  We totally stuffed ourselves ... and this was dessert:

Limoncello shortcake at Pacci'sLimoncello Shortcake

Sunday (aka today), I went for a 6.4 mile run.  And, then, I went to the pottery studio.  And, then, I decided not to go to the Pride Festival, because, OMG, it was so forking hot that I practically melted.  Instead, I went to the Whole Foods and the Adega.  And then I came home and drank green tea vodka with peach lemonade.  Yum!

Look.  Here's a mug:

And a bowl:

I guess that's about it.  Tomorrow I am off!  HURRAH!  Plans include: Trader Joe's, cleaning, pottery studio, and adult sleepover.  Yay for plans!

Hope your weekend was super awesome!

Weekend Update: Sticky Crows Edition

Good Evening, Kittens!

What a crazy ass drunken weekend I had.  Whew.  I am worn out, but it was so worth it!

On Friday (did you see the photo of the kittens a co-worker rescued and brought into the office?), our client let us leave a little early, so I headed out to the Logan Circle area to meet with some visiting Canadians, Tornwordo and Serge.

We planned to meet at 5 at Number 9, a very good bar for happy hours with its two-for-one drink specials from 5-9.  I got there around 4:30 and it was closed.   Gah!  So I went two doors down to the Commissary to partake of their happy hour (which involved $4.75 watermelon margaritas.  Oh, yeah!).  Torn and Serge found me there and they are as cute in person as they are in pictures.  Yay!  We had a couple cocktails at Commissary and, then, headed over to Number 9, which had finally opened.  And, we had a few more cocktails.  And, met some very talkative (and probably intoxicated) young'uns.  After the kids headed to Bear Happy Hour at Town, we walked down to Thai Tanic for dinner.  Mmmm.  Vegetarian Drunken Noodle.  Nom Nom Nom.

And, after dinner, we decided to go to a restaurant/bar near their hotel, Lincoln.  They serve classic cocktails there.  And they were tasty.  And the bartender gave me a free one "for being local."  Yay for being local!  Yay for free cocktails!

Then, we parted ways and I worked my way to the bus stop in a torrential downpour.  Luckily, the bus stop was (relatively) close and I only had to wait a few minutes for the bus.  By the time we got to Silver Spring, the rain had stopped.

Saturday morning?  Very.  Over.  Hung.  I blobbed for most of the morning.  Isabella wanted to be fed at 7AM.  Gah.  Around 2PM, I realized that it was supercool outside so I went for a 6.25 mile run.  Yay me!

Then, I had to get ready to go to a wedding reception.  The Happy Couple married in April in the Virgin Islands.  And this was their reception for their friends/family.  I had invited M to go with me, but a few weeks before the party, he remembered that he had to go to NC for his niece's high school graduation.  Gah.  I scrambled around for a date, but everyone was busy.  K wouldn't get back from NYC until 930PM.  R had plans.  V had plans.  And, I am so over asking D to do anything that I didn't even bother (turns out he was in Orlando running a half-marathon anyway).  So, I put on my suit and a happy face, fortified myself with a margarita, and ventured out on my own.

UntitledAll suited up

Once the likker kicked in (free beer and wine!), the party got fun.  There was dancing.  And drinking.  And me not eating nearly enough food.  And more drinking.  Oh, and a photo booth (oh hell yeahz!)

UntitledMe and the Bride

The party ended at 10:30 and I ended up heading out with a bunch of drunk people to another bar somewhere in DC.  We stayed there until the bar closed.  And then I was all like, "I don't know where I am."  So I texted K.  And he picked me up (I must have asked the bartender for the address) and drove me to his place.  YAY!

Of course, I may have been very drunk and pretty much passed out as soon as I got to his house.  Oops.

The next morning?  V. Over. Hung. K had to go help some friends, so he left around 10AM.  I managed to get out of his house at 10:30.  Yay me!  And, luckily, there is nothing weird about wandering around in a suit at 10:30AM on a Sunday morning ...

I got home around 11:30 and fell asleep until about 2.  And, then, Torn texted, "Want to meet around 5:30?"

Of course, I did!  We met at Nellie's.  The weather was really nice, so I thought the upstairs deck would be awesome.  Unfortunately, every other gay in DC was thinking the same thing.  Crowded!  Loud!  We went down into the main dining area, ordered some appetizers and drinks there.  Much nicer.  Then, we walked down the street to Alero for margaritas and yummy Mexican food.  Mmmm.  Spinach enchiladas.

After dinner, they headed out and I went home to bed.  Yay bed.

And, that was my superfun, uberboozy weekend! I may need the rest of this week to recover.

Hope your Monday was AWESOME!
