Honest Tea

Good Morning, Kittens. At some point over the weekend, BOSSY and I had a brief conversation about blogging (Imagine). I don't have the readership of most of the power blogs out there. But, as BOSSY said, "Your readers are loyal." And, it's true. I have this fun little community out there, who are very important to me. Back in the day, when I was getting about 10 hits a day, I was no-holds-barred honest. Now that I get a few more hits than that, I have noticed that I have started to be more secretive. And what's the point of keeping a personal journal if you don't record everything? Which brings us up to the whole point of this post (almost) ... a few months ago, Y and I resumed a sexual relationship. I haven't really blogged about it (although I think I've hinted?) ... mostly because I feel like I'm disappointing readers. I'm certainly OK with the sex. Otherwise, I wouldn't be having it with him. It's not like I plan to re-enter...

Fire and Ice

With the temperatures appoaching triple digits and the FDA issuing a warning on red tomatoes, I have begun to crave summery salads, and one in particular: Fire and Ice Salad. It's really quite simple to make. Quarter tomatoes, peel and slice cucumbers, and slice some red onion and maybe a jalapeno or two. Combine in a casserole dish with your favorite homemade vinegrette and refrigerate. It's hot. It's cool. It's perfect. Thinking of it yesterday, brought back a flood of memories ... Two years and two days ago, I broke up with the Cheating Cheater. Two years and nine days ago, I caught him with a twenty-something-year-old with long hair and bad skin. On the metro ride home from that discovery, I somehow managed to spill an entire dish of Fire and Ice Salad which I had made to take to a potluck later that afternoon. $20 worth of heirloom tomatoes and organic cucumbers dripped down the orange metro vinyl, and I sat there, numb. As I was relating this story, last night, to...

I Almost Forgot the Most Momentous Event of the Weekend

I was going over in my head what I need to do when I get home from work: (a) eat, (b) drink, and (c) pack an overnight bag. As I mentally packed my bag, I remembered the Momentous Event! Saturday, Y gave me a toothbrush that I can keep at his place. [Yes, I know I could buy my own toothbrush to keep at his place, but I kept forgetting. Plus, I bought him a toothbrush for my place, so it only seemed fair that he reciprocate] Yay! I no longer have to schlep my toothbrush across county lines! Happy Happy Happy! I'm sure that must mean LOVE, right?

Get Off My Back

My apartment has some plumbing issues: There's a leak in the kitchen sink. The hot water in the bathroom sink comes out of the tap at slightly greater force than a trickle. The bathroom sink drain is bordering on becoming clogged. The toilet sometimes runs and should be grouted to the floor. I know these are problems. And I haven't gotten them fixed for a number of, probably not very good, reasons. Namely, time and money combined with the effort of locating/contacting a decent plumber. Y has taken it upon himself to start nagging me about it. Daily. On the phone. On IM. When we're cuddling after sex. It is driving me crazy. And stressing me out. "When are you going to call a plumber?" "I don't know." He nags. I refuse to give in. I don't respond well to nagging. It makes me dig in my heels. I feel like if I give in to his nagging, it only means that the next time there will be more nagging. I know it's something that I need to ...

My, What Big Teeth You Have

Image
This is a picture from the cocktail graduation party on Sunday. Don't we look cute in our cocktail attire. Things you should note: (1) VUBOQ has the cheesiest grin EVER, esp. when he is slightly intoximacated. Can one be hungover and intoximacated at the same time? Because VUBOQ was. (2) VUBOQ needs to decide if he should get a haircut or continue the 70s shaggy look. He is leaning towards getting a haircut (and color!). (3) VUBOQ picked Y's outfit. Y questioned the choice of tie. One should not doubt VUBOQ.

Gray Dreary, But Friday *w00t*

Good morning, kittens. It would have been a lovely morning to stay in bed. Fortunately, I get to leave at 12:30 today, so I will be able to partake of many wonderful napping moments on my sofa. Huzzah. The date last night was fun. I was a little late. I would have been on time, but Y postponed the date by about half an hour. I know, you'd think I'd be extra early. Instead, I dawdled. I was only a few minutes late anyway, but, for like the first time EVER, Y was on time. We had fun. Drinks. Food. Talk. Laughs. Got to watch a v. drunk man be cut off and then fall of his stool. (and no it wasn't either me or Y). Unfortunately, Y's deadline took precedence over my need for nookie. *sigh* On the bright side, he got good results and accomplished a lot ... so the morning was kind of fun *wink*. He has a meeting with his advisors today, so he'll either be in a fantastic mood this afternoon or all forking depressed. Let's hope it goes well. VUBOQ needs a happy, nookie-fi...

A Day Which Will Live in Infamy

Yes. It's the One Year Anniversary* of my first date with Y . We are going to that very same bar tonight to relive the good times ... All the exciting details tomorrow. Stay tuned. Last night was laundry. I have clean sheets. Yayz. My parents bought me these super soft Ridiculously High Count Egyptian Cotton sheets. I love them. I also hate them. They come out of the dryer uber-wrinkly. Shouldn't sheets fresh out of the dryer look clean und crisp? Not like they've already been slept on for 3 weeks? So, when I put the wrinkly (yet clean!) sheets on my bed, it looks icky. My bed only looks super nice about once every 3 weeks when I put clean sheets on. And, now, it doesn't even look nice then. *le sigh* And, srsly, who is going to iron sheets? Not me. Fer sure. Later that very same night, Across the Hall from DUN Neighbor came downstairs and I taught her how to fold origami cranes. DUN joined a few minutes later for a resume review session. It was tot...

Nothing Happened Last Night

Y came over. We watched Edward Scissorhands again. I said that I thought the movie was a gay allegory. And, he was all, "but he likes that girl." And then I had to say, "you don't know what allegory means, do you?" And, he was all, "No." So I had to explain it. *bleah* What do you think? We drank almost an entire bottle of wine and went to bed. Well, I went to bed. Y stayed up reading or studying or something. Before going to bed (and after watching the movie/explaining the Allegory of Edward Scissorhands ), we discussed what we are going to do on May 15th - a day which will live in infamy, the anniversary of our first date . We decided to go back to the Irish bar where we met. We're also thinking about taking a trip to NYC, either for Memorial Day Weekend or the next weekend. It really depends on if our friends' sofas are available those weekends or not. In other news ... it's Laundry Day! Huzzah! I have to get quarters at s...

Whiskers on Kittens

Image
Good morning, kittens! Happy May Day ! Happy No More Alcohol-Free April! Huzzah! Yesterday, I did laundry. I weeded a bit in the front garden. And I packed two more boxes to ship. I'll take them to the post office later this morning. I had to borrow a neighbor's paper shredder because I ran out of packing material. Oops. Hopefully, everything will be well-cushioned. Lessee ... what else ... oh. right. The photo guessing game... They are keys! To my apartment! I am going to give them to Y. But, we are NOT moving in together. Gah. Srsly, it's not even been a year including the several months long break-up. Moving in together could be something I see in the long run, but not for several more years (at least!). I like my place. He likes his. Mine is close to my job. His is close to his school. Moving in would prove to be inconvenient for one of us. So why is this event earth-shattering? Perhaps it's not quite as earth-shattering as my overly drama queeny nature first expe...

TGIF!

Last night, Y came over and we watched Volver . It was very enjoyable. Of course, at one point, I tried to go to bed (during the movie), and Y wouldn't let me. So, I stayed up (later than normal) to watch the end. After the movie, as I was getting ready for bed, Y asked, "What are you doing tomorrow?" "Going to work like most people do." [pause] [pause] [pause] "Oh. Tomorrow is Friday. I forgot," Y said. "I'm sorry. I wouldn't have asked you to stay up to watch the movie if I had known." OMG. Academics and their total lack of brains sometimes. ANYWAY, not much going on. Certain people on the Board are driving me crazy . They are worried about rats and raccoons around our building. People, we live in the woods, near a large creek and park. We are going to get rats and raccoons and other various and sundry creatures of nature around our building. The trick is to keep them from coming inside the building. GAH. And I will n...

Moody and Gray

And cranky. Very cranky. Which means that (a) I bailed on the Non-Bris Party and (b) Y is a little peeved. I did manage to get up to go with him to brunch with his friend visiting from NYC. We went to the Red Dog Cafe ... a place I doubt I'll visit again ... Not just because the service was bad (like, um, hello? coffee refill? asking how the food is or if we need anything? would that be possible? apparently not), but also because the food was, not bad, but bland. Flavorless. Dull. Uninteresting. Things I can make at home ... and make better. Of course, b/c I was getting cranky at being ignored by the crap waitstaff, I was not as participatory in the conversation. Which caused Y to think that his friend will think that I don't like her (um ... whatever.). She talked like a mile a minute, and it was difficult to get a word in when I did feel like I had something to add to the conversation, which wasn't often because the conversation revolved around the following topics (1) Is...

Birthday Baking

Image
For Y's 40th Birthday Party, in addition to all the food we purchased, I decided a few homemade goodies would help to make it extra-special. First, I made Mel's delicious Chocolate Tofu Pie. Here it is in the blender: And, then, poured into two crusts (chocolate and graham, both purchased at Whole Foods): Easy peasy to make. And yummy (but not quite as sweet as I thought it would be. I might put in more maple syrup if I make them again). Next, I melted half a bag of semisweet chocolate chips and dipped strawberries in it: Warning: Do not let your children lick the bowl or they may end up looking like this: Next, I made chocolate chip cookies. I experimented by putting some Peanut Butter M&Ms in a few: This is the second batch (with no M&Ms): This is the third, and final, batch (with M&Ms): Colorful! Peanut butter-y! Finally, I used the last of the semisweet chocolate chips to make chocolate-covered pretzels: After all that, I was EXHAUSTED, but there was still ...

The End of the World Month Approacheth

And, lo, there came from on high a call, which pierced the air with it's high-pitched screech. Yeah. That was me. After a very frustrating call with Y. GAH! This is a reconstruction of the conversation: V: So what kind of food do you want for your party on Saturday? Y: I don't care. V: Maybe a little hint? Y: I have eggrolls in the freezer. They have chicken in them. V: Um. OK. Anything else? Y: I just want people to be happy. V: Do you think they will be happy with only frozen chicken eggrolls? Y: I don't know. V: Do you want the food to focus around a specific theme? Like middle eastern or asian? We can get hummus and babaganouj and pita and, maybe, some spanakopita. Y: I guess we could. I don't know. Seems like I always have those things at parties. V: OK. You want something different. What? Y: I don't care if it has a theme. My only thing is that the guests are happy. V: The guests won't be happy if you don't decide on what food you want. ...

Rain and Blue Skies

I'm unmotivated. I've had a fun idea that I'm thinking of pursuing and marketing (somehow, maybe). But, according to Y, who "has the experience of owning his own start-up," I would need to show more commitment and motivation than he's seen from me . And if this conversation hadn't started at about 10:55, as I was heading to bed, I would have been able to flesh it out a little more. It irks me to no end that someone who has known me for less than a year acts like he knows everything about me. It all circles back to the way people define their lives, I think. I don't define mine by my job, and, thus, I'm not hypermotivated at work. Yet, people who are career-oriented view others through that lens as well. Through those blinders, I do appear unmotivated. In the time we've been together, I have: -Completed 2 short stories -Grown my own chili peppers from seed (not to mention the Parsley That Will Not Die) -Made lots and lots of fun vodka infus...

The Hair Up There

Image
I got my hair did for Valentine's Day. Hurrah! I luvs the day I have my hair did. After that, I no longer have the desire to blowdry and fluff and style and wax and spike and primp, and my hair returns to it's natural state of disorder and clumpiness with random hairs sticking off in random directions (see photo). I do have some photos of my hair actually styled and looking a little over halfway decent, but those pics are on my digicam and have yet to be uploaded. Patience, grasshoppers. I was going to do a BOSSYesque Going to Get My Hair Did entry, but after reading hers , I thought, "*meh* Too complicated. Too time-consuming. Best not to raise my readers' expectations or I'll have to crank out well-organized, thoughtful entries all the time ." And who wants to do that? After the Hair Adventure, I met Y at a cute little Thai restaurant in Woodley Park, Jandara. I have always *heart*ed Jandara. My cousin and I used to eat there a lot. They make this yummy ent...

Terrible Twos

Happy Blogrthday to VUBOQ Happy Blogrthday to VUBOQ Happy Blogrthday to VUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBOQ Happy Blogrthday to VU. Yep. Today we are two . Hard to believe, huh? I mean, like, so much has happened in two years. I drank a lot. And I knitted. And I watched DVDs. *whew* Seriously, people, why do you keep reading this schlock? I find it a little baffling, really. Oh, well. I promise to keep on drinking, knitting, and watching DVDs for years to come ... just for you . Stay tuned. Meanwhile, we had an ice storm last night. I love how the trees looked like they'd been dipped in glass this morning. I didn't love walking (er ... sliding) to work, though. I also didn't love how the traffic lights were out near my office. Listen, people, I don't even drive and I know that, when the traffic lights aren't working, you treat it as a 4-way stop . It does NOT mean that you can just speed through the intersection like it's not there. And, I'm looking at you gigantic garbage...

Processing ... Processing ...

Update to follow in a minute ... He called around 5:30, and I said he could come over for dinner around 7. He called at 7:15 to say he would be there in 10 minutes. I was on the phone with Mike. "He said he's had a big revelation while in Puerto Rico. I'm hoping we're on the same page and that he has realized we're only using each other as place-holders until someone better comes along." A little after 8, my door buzzer rang. I opened the door and there he was ... with a rose. "I thought there was a flower shop in your neighborhood," he said, as he gave me a kiss. No one's every brought me flower before. "I did a lot of thinking," he said, standing in the kitchen while I stirred the soup. "You're like a boomerang. I keep throwing you away, but you keep coming back." "Um. It's more the other way around I think," I interjected. "Well, I know I have trouble saying this, but ... (pause)(deep breath)...
