I'm a Winner

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Sometimes, it pays to have good relations with your neighbors, because you never know when they might show up at your door with something like this: Why, yes, that is a handle of vodka and an award certificate which states: Project HostGay Award This certificate is awarded to Stevie Martini the 2009 winner of the "take this crap and make an awesome farewell party" challenge. Although the guest of honor's prize did not reflect an understanding of the event*, the award committee recognizes the immense effort involved (signed) K-Factor This is, of course, in reference to Crazy Neighbor's Going Away Party, which you can read about here . To thank me for hosting her going away party, Crazy Neighbor gave me this: Why, yes, that is a wooden Christmas tree ornament which she probably found while cleaning out her apartment to move. I was so touched. So, anyway, last night, I started watching Season 2 of Mad Men on DVD. OMG. So good! In Episode 1...

Catching Up

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens! As I said earlier, I met my friend, Patty, yesterday afternoon. First, we went to Lavantes, a Middle Eastern restaurant south of Dupont Circle for cocktails and appetizers. After lots of catching up, we walked to Straits of Malaya for dinner on their rooftop deck. The food was totally yummy. As we were paying our check, it started to rain. Great timing ... except I only had a small umbrella and we got soaked on the way back to her hotel. Once back at the hotel, we decided to have a few more cocktails at the hotel bar. The bartender, Joe, was CUTE! (and gay ... I think). And, then, I came home ... on the bus, because the red line metro has been stopping at Ft. Totten after 10PM. And, it was well after 10PM when we finished. The bus took forever. Today, after a ridiculously long metro ride (25 minutes from Silver Spring to Takoma Park ... which is only one station and should only take a few minutes), I met Patty at the Natural History Museum. She did a lit...

Because I Can't Go Two Mornings in a Row Without Saying ...

Good Morning, Kittens! A friend of mine, Patty, who worked with me in Japan and I haven't really seen since, is in town. We met up last night for the first time in over 10 years. And, we' re doing the museums today before she heads home to Georgia. Expect a longer post this afternoon (with Pictures!). Until then, have a great day! *smooches*

Meanwhile ...

Good Afternoon, Kittens. I have almost fully rehydrated (huzzah!), so here's a little bit more on my day yesterday ... Anne-Marie from Philly came to visit for the day. We met around 10:30 in the morning, and I forced her to run some errands with me (bank and likker store). Then, we wandered over to Adega for wine ... and lunch. The lovely Ms. Bluestockingtales joined us there. The food was yummy. Mmm. Mmm. Then, we drove back to my place for knitting and Xanadu and Mad Men, Season 1 and martinis and more knitting. Anne-Marie gave Isabella a hand-knit catnip-filled toy (which Isabella LOVES) and she brought me a bottle of Philadelphia-made gin (which I *know* I am going to LOVE ... once I open it). Which may be this weekend. Time flew by and Anne-Marie had to catch the bus back to Silver Spring. *wah* Ms. Bluestockingtales and I continued to watch Mad Men . Then, K-Factor and SCGB came down around 8 and we all had ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. YUM!...

From the fabulous blog, Dorama World , regarding the recent arrest of my Future Ex-Husband, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi: "He was screaming "Shingo, Shingo" when the police tried to suppress him. It is believed that he was shouting for his fellow member cum buddy , Katori Shingo from SMAP who wasn't present at the scene." [emphasis added] Pervy Monkey! *slap*

Breaking News!

Good Morning, Kittens! The hot news this morning (at least in Japan) is that SuperCute Member of SMAP, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, has been arrested for being drunk (and naked!) in a park. Read all about it here (in English!) (no pictures *sad face*)! A fun thing to do while reading this article is to pick out all the kind and indirect ways the author writes "HE'S GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY!" Here's my favorite: "In a survey among single people in their 30s, Kusanagi was named the No.1 representative for "Soushoku Danshi" i.e. guys who are caring towards friends and family but are not too keen on romance." As for my hot news? There is none. I spent yesterday doing laundry and knitting. And rolling quarters. And I vaccuumed. I have all the fun. Today, I am going to do a little job searching stuff. Then, I'm heading to the pottery studio. After finishing there, I'm going to Mike's for dinner (and to pick up a couple of pairs of free jea...

Accentuate the Positive

Image
Rather than dwell on my crankiness (I don't think I'll be feeling full strength until I hear from the recruiter, and, then, I'll either be ecstatic or doubly down dooby dooby down wah wah wah waaaaaaaaaaaah), here are the good things that happened this weekend: 1. I made green tea, using my hagiyaki, which, if you don't know, is one of the best pottery styles in Japan ... and my favorite. I own lots and lots of hagiyaki, including a v. expensive tea ceremony bowl. Love my hagiyaki :-) 2. I seamed one sleeve on the Never-Ending Cardigan of Doom. 3. I cast on and knit one band of the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry Potter Scarf, which I promised a friend last year. 4. I weeded and tidied the garden area (with some neighborly help) in front of our building. 5. I planted the chocolate mint in the planter on our porch. 6. I planted the marigold and thai basil seeds in some small containers. If they sprout, I will transplant them into the garden 7. I transplanted the serrano chili ...

Because I Can't Help Myself

My 1000th post is rapidly approaching. To celebrate this momentous event, I'm having (yet another) contest! WOOT! The rules are very simple. The first person to comment on my 1000th entry (and don't worry, I'll let you know which one it is), wins a very special prize! What makes it special? Nothing really. It's actually a reject. I recently offered it to Marvy Mei and she turned me down. COLD. K-brrr. I think it's kind of neat, a remnant of my years in Japan - a fan. One of my adult students gave it to me when I left (in 1998). I don't really know what to do with it, so I'm giving it away. Aren't you lucky? Here are some pictures: [PsychoKitty not included][VUBOQ not included either] Good luck, and may the Schwartz be with you.

Yukata! Yukata!

Steve emailed le photos. Here is one of Tomoko and me : Extreme Close-up! You may now comment [ contest , kittens] on how cute I am. [You also have permission to say that Tomoko is cute, too. I won't be insulted.]

The Quick Saturday Almost Evening Post

I'm supposed to have my own Intranest connection now. Needless to say, and to make a long story (which will be expanded on Monday short, I don't. Vuboq is *so* not happy with RCN. I went to Mike's last night for pizza and movies. I have really been craving pizza lately, so I ate too much and my stomach hurt all night. *whine* *moan* I feel better today. Tonight is Tomoko and Emiliano's housewarming party. I will be wearing the yukata (men's summer robe) I had made when I lived in Japan. I haven't worn it since I came back to the US, other than to show my family. I'll try to remember to take pictures. It's cute, if a little old man-ish . meaning ... I guess, that most young men don't rush out to have their own yukata made. And maybe the pattern is a bit mature, as well. Whatever. Cute. And I like it. So there. I think I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon/evening, watching old movies and drinking a Tom Collins. *mmm* Don't forget the C...
