Critters

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Happy Friday! A critter is eating my flower garden, chomping on cosmos seedlings like there is no tomorrow. I think it might be a bunneh. Or an elephant. Not sure which. As long as it stays away from the bush basil I transplanted yesterday, I will be happy. I have plenty of cosmos seeds, but only one bush basil. I have been unmotivated this week. I think the job hunt is getting me down. Dooby dooby down. Wah wah wah waaaaaah. It would be nice to hear *something* from at least one of the 6 (or was it 7) government jobs I've applied for this past Spring. Gah. It would also be nice to apply to some jobs this week, which I seem to be unable to do ... even though I've come across several interesting ads. Last night, I dreamed I was stranded in the Philadelphia airport (with my brother!) because a hurricane had closed all the airports in DC. And I was wondering what to do because I didn't know anyone in Philly. But, then, I realized I did! Thr...

SPAMpocalypse

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I spent most of the day yesterday waiting for something to happen. Then, at 11:23PM it did. The SPAMpocalypse!!!! OMG! Run for the Hills (although it might be too late since I'm posting this on the Day After). By now I'm sure some Demonic Bill Gates-like Creature has devoured teh Intartubez and is wreaking havoc on the Entire World. Hope you've read your SPAMZombie Survival Manual. Me? I'm moving in with Pesky Mac . I'll let her behead the SPAMzombies with her Dragon Boat Paddle for me. Have a great day! Watch out for blood spatters. *smooches* PS. A very happy 40th birthday to my best friend and super upstairs neighbor, Tomokito . Keep on rockin' the Manolos, Sexy Mama!

Good Morning, Kittens. *yawn* One of us did not sleep very well last night, possibly because that person has realized that, if his unemployment check does not arrive in the next day or so, his mortgage payment (which is automatically deducted from his account) could go all Boing-bOing-boIng-boiNg-boinG. And, there is no one to blame, because he was lazy and did not check his balance for the month in time to transfer money from savings. *sigh* On a brighter note, the final Surprise Pottery Package has been received by SwankyMama . Here's a picture . It's a doggie bowl for her new Yorkie. AND, Tulsa William texted to say he received his package too and that he liked the bowl. I'm amazed nothing was broken. Maybe I'm getting better at this pottery packing thing. Today, I need to get a few job applications out. Then, house-cleaning and laundry. I'd like to do some seed planting outside, but I think it's too wet/rainy. Alas... Have a great day! *smooches*

I Bite Myself

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens! Several nights ago, I had a nightmare in which I was being strangled from behind (hm, sounds slightly familiar , no?). In my dream, I turned my head to the left and bit the attacker. In my reality, I awoke with an "Ow!" Yes, in my sleep, I bit my arm near my shoulder. It hurt, and I remember thinking to myself, "That's going to leave a mark" before I fell back asleep. When I awoke the next morning, I forgot to check. A few days later in the shower, I noticed a mystery bruise on my left arm. I thought for a minute and it all came flooding back. With a bruise to prove it. *sheesh* Now, you should all scurry over to Puntabulous (if you haven't already) to read his latest Funtabulous post . See if you can spot VUBOQ! *smooches*

Let's Be Friends

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Rainy and cool here in Vutopia today and no plans on the agenda. I need to make a schedule so that I don't spend the entire week slowly merging with my sofa. Anyway, yesterday was all right. I spent most of the day being horizontal and overhung. Then, I had a very late lunch (or early dinner?) at Eggspectations (which I don't really like, but we wanted breakfast food). I came home and blobbed. I decided I wanted to drink something besides water, so I started some sun mugi-cha with teabags Tomokito gave me awhile back. I used to make (and drink) mugi-cha in Japan all the time. We always called it "wheat tea" because mugi = wheat and cha = tea . However, I was reading about it last night on wikipedia and they called it "Roasted Barley Tea. Hm. Anyway, that's a picture of it. Usually I boil it, but this time Ithought I'd make sun tea. Which is probably why it's raining. I have no idea when it will be ready. Maybe by t...

Weekend Update: Memorial Day Edition

Good Morning, Kittens. *oog* One of us is VERY hungover. It might be me. Eric from Baltimore came down last night. We had margaritas and then went to JRs and Cobalt. It was at Cobalt where two guys in shirts and ties walked by me and I said, "Ooh. Look! Mormons!" One of the guys said, "Close. We're actually Jehovah's Witnesses. We're here to convert you." To which I replied, "I love to be converted!" I think I will be spending most of today on the sofa. Sofa good. In fact, most of my weekend was spent on the sofa. Friday night, SCGB and I went out for food and drinks. And, let me tell you, the Open Bar Hour at Cobalt (from 11-Midnight) is Dangerous. Saturday = sofa. Sunday, I planted a small patch in the front garden area with poppy seeds. I call it Unemployment Plan B: Opium Den. Maybe they will sprout. I also started some marigold seeds as well. And, that's pretty much all I've accomplished. Finally ... here are the ...

The Hair Up There

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! It's almost the Weekend! Hurrah! I know you people with jobs are excited :-) What's going on with me? All sorts of fun stuff. On Wednesday, I met CNTBD for lunch. We went to Matchbox and had pizza. And wine. And then some more wine. And I was super bloated, so I came home and napped. Then, I did laundry. OMG. I have all the funz. Thursday, I got my hairz did! YAYz. I took Leah the Colornatrix a piece of pottery ( this one ). She loved it! We did color. We did cut. And, when I went to pay, the front desk woman, whose name I can never remember, said, "It's been comped." Huz-ZAH! I was, like, are you sure? And, Leah, said "Yes. We can work something out after you get a job." It certainly pays to go to the same stylist for 8 years. Saved me about $100 bucks. Ya-HOO. (I still gave her a $20 tip though). Hair all purty, I walked over to American University to have lunch with Mike. It was AU Staff Appreciation D...

Lunch and Death

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Not much happened in Vutopia yesterday. I applied for a job (yay). I spent an inordinantly large amount of time prepping for our monthly Co-op board meeting, which ended up being quite short. We only have one major issue to decide and we still need a little more information. Carolyn stopped by prior to the meeting to pick up her prize for winning the 10% Refund Challenge drawing: I should've taken her picture posing with the plate, but I didn't think of it at the time. Oh, well. She also shared some unpleasant news: A former co-worker of ours committed suicide last month. I only worked with her for a year or so before she left for a better job, so I didn't know her very well. Still, it is sad. Couple that with a woman who I knew while I lived in Japan recently passing away from cancer, and it makes me wonder who amongst my outer periphery of friends and acquaintances will be next... Fortunately, I don't consider my blog readers and friends ...

A Post About Pottery. What a Surprise.

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I went to the pottery studio yesterday to pick up my final pieces. One is still in the kiln, so I probably won't get it until the Fall. I am Totally In Love with this bowl though. And, I think I'm going to send it to Tulsa William as a Thank You Present for hosting me. I'm going to give him a choice though, but my feeling is that he will choose this bowl. We shall see... Anyway, besides the bowl, I had three mugs and two vases finished ... Here's one of the mugs: and one of the vases: I also had 6 pieces of bisqueware which I didn't have time to glaze this session. If I can take a course this summer, I may be able to glaze them then. I am partial to the cute little handbuilt creamer: and this funky vase thing: The other items are my most recent uploads on Flickr. Enjoy ! I don't have that many unassigned pieces this session, but stay tuned for a Pottery Giveaway within the next week or so. Love me. Love my crappy free pottery :-) H...

Weekend Update: Party and Boats Edition

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens! Saturday day was pretty much a wash. I slept. A lot. And then I took a nap. And then I had to run around like a crazy person because how did it get to be 530PM already and I need to leave the house at 6ish to get to Shallowgal 's Birthday Party on time? The party was at Dino in Cleveland Park. Lots and lots (and lots) of booze. And appetizers. And food ... like this: which VUBOQ didn't eat, of course ... but there was also lots of vegetarian items. Hurrah. Shallowgal is so thoughtful and wonderful and has BOOBS OUT TO HERE*! Anyway, at the party I met lots of Shallowgal's friends. And, guess what? Not all Virginian Suburbanites are Scary! Isn't that great? After the party, I staggered home, and ran into SCGB, who gave me a ride. Which was awesome because it was pissing it down rain. Sunday morning, SCGB and I met Maura, the German's girlfriend, for brunch in DC. Fun times. She's so nice. And, she's heading to Germany...

Week Update: Tulsa Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I had a SuperFabulous Weekend (and will be updating that later today), but -for now- you will just have to make do with a review of my Funtastic "Week" in Tulsa. I set out on Tuesday the 12th with all intents and purposes to participate in 12 of 12. I took lots of photos. I just never got around to picking 12 and posting them. Oh, well. The trip to Tulsa was uneventful. All my flights were on time and relatively drama free. I did spot a SuperHot Guy in Chicago during my layover. Bonus! Anyway, William picked me up and we drove into Exciting Downtown Tulsa. We had lunch at an Irish Pub near where a new baseball stadium will be built. Then, he had to finish painting a mural for Mayfest, Tulsa's art festival. Once that was finished, he showed me some of the Art Deco Landmarks in the downtown area. We went back to his house and chilled for awhile. And, later, with his SuperCute younger brother, we went back to downtown to disassemble his sca...

DC Fabulosity Quotient Returns to Normal

Image
Because I don't want my blog to be topped by negativity all weekend ... Good Saturday Afternoon, Kittens! Yes, I am back in the DC/Metro Area at last. Poor Tulsa. I assume it is weeping at the loss of me. The trip was SuperFun, except for one or two moments of unpleasantness (see below), which were satisfactorally resolved before I left. So, it's all good. Come Monday, I'll post a Fun-Filled Recap of all my Exciting Adventures. Meanwhile, I have finished uploading all the photos from the trip. They're on Flickr in the Tulsa set . Have a fantastic weekend! *smooches*

Square Pegs Round Holes

Good Morning, Kittens. A quick update from the Land of Narrow Minds ... Apparently, VUBOQ is: -a flaming queen -overly effeminate -immature -unmotivated -not intelligent -and, the way I talk would be OK if I were 21. Fortunately, VUBOQ is completely comfortable with these thing. He spent over half his life trying to be someone he isn't. And, he's very happy now being the Person He Is. If other people can't see that [he is happy and comfortable], then that is their issue [and, believe you me, they have Issues]. Not VUBOQ's. VUBOQ is ecstatic to be returning home today (even though he doesn't arrive until Very Late tonight). *smooches* PS. Tulsa is -actually- a lovely little city ... even if its residents are not always so. More pictures this weekend.

Leaving on a Jet Plane!

Don't know if I'll be back again ... That's right, Kittens. As you read this, I am (hopefully) sitting at the airport thinking, "Did I remember to pack my toothbrush?" I didn't. I'm sure. Oh, wait. Here it is. [I'm also typing this post on Monday night, so that bit was a lot funnier to me] ANYWAYZ, DAVID DON'T FORGET IT'S 12 OF 12!!! Mine will certainly be interesting. Especially if I turn up hacked into pieces in a freezer in a garage in Tulsa, OK. Photographic evidence of the Killer will be Right. Here. On. the Blog. Assuming, of course, that I get hacked into pieces after I am able to post. I say this all in jest. Srsly. He is a nice guy. And ShallowGal and SCGB have his address, cellphone number, and instructions to call the police if they don't hear from me (just in case). Bases? They are covered. My current dilemma is this. Last night, nothing was out of the kiln. AND, none of my greenware had been bisque fired. Hello?...

Weekend Update: Margaritas Edition

Good Morning, Kittens! Happy Monday! I hope everyone is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and ready to take on the week! Yayz! I have a busy day ahead ... laundry, packing, last minute shopping, pottery. Fun times! My weekend was rather uneventful. Friday, I lounged around a lot. Saturday, I had a few friends 'round for margaritas. And, Sunday, I lounged more. I know. I live the exciting life. Truly. At least my Oklahoma Adventure (Starting Tomorrow!) will provide for slightly more entertaining blog posts. Hopefully ... *smooches*

Doozy Number Two-zy

I tend to think the best of people, even when they do bad things to me. Hell, I was mugged and I think "maybe he had his reasons ..." I forgive too easily. I try to focus on the good in people. Which gets me into trouble. As a former co-worker once said to me, "Sometimes people mistake kindness for weakness." Some of you may remember that I recently ran into John, the Cheating Cheater. Since then we have been in casual contact. I was thinking maybe we could rebuild some sort of friendly relationship. It's not like he's a bad guy. Sometimes he could be surprisingly sensitive. And he's funny. And he made me think about things in an entirely different way. Last night, we were supposed to meet up. He was going to pick my up at the Metro station near his house at around 7:30. I was running a little late ... 7:27PM: Me via text: "At Silver Spring Metro. There in about 10 min or so." No response. 7:34PM: I arrived at the Metro station and call...

Where in the World is Vuboq Sandiego?

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! The rain seems to have stopped, the sun is trying to peek out from the clouds, and VUBOQ has lost total control of his senses ... Yep. Totally Insane. Bonkers. KAH-RAY-ZEE. See. It's like this. I met this guy, WF, online a few months ago. We've been IM'ing daily and phoning every couple of weeks. Well, he just bought me a plane ticket to ... And, I thought "What the heck, I've never been." And, he doesn't seem like a serial killer (but, just in case, I have a text message backup plan arranged with a couple of friends, including this Fabulous Almost-Birthday Girl ). In fact, he's quite nice. I leave next Tuesday. Expect a lot of "WTF Am I Doing?" Posts between now and then. And that's just Doozy #1 in a long line of recent Doozies ... Have a great day! *smooches*

Apologies. Not the Doozy of a Post

Image
Good Early Evening, Kittens. I didn't get home from the studio 'til after 4 and I just don't have it in my right now. Sorry. I might start typing it up later tonight. Trust me. There's Drama. Intrigue. And Other Stuff. For now, how about a picture of the Borked Bowl? It doesn't look *that* bad, except you can't see the tiny little crack that runs to the base. sigh. And, my Final Pottery Pieces: One thrown mug. One handbuilt mug. One kindacutelittle handbuilt creamer/pitcher. And three weird handbuilt vases. Not a bad haul, eh? Final class is on Monday. I will be glazing glazing glazing. Fun Times. *smooches*

Food and Such

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Short post this morning. There should be a longer post this afternoon when I'm not so pressed for time (and believe you me the afternoon post will be a DOOZY!). Instead you get to read about my dinner. It was delicious. Inspired by all the Cinco de Mayo tweets and posts, I decided to make a little taco-y salad for dinner. It consisted of: a layer of mixed greens; topped with sauteed green squash and mushrooms; topped with diced tomato, red onion, and carrots; topped with spanish rice; topped with refried beans; topped with salsa and grated cheese; and surrounded by tortilla chips. OMG! It was so good. Yum yum yum SQUARED. And, then, I had a blueberry margarita on the rocks. Per.Fection. and, now, I must get ready to head out. I'm meeting CNTBD for lunch at Jaleo (my favorite restaurant in DC, with the added bonus of having the best sangria too). Then, I'm heading to the pottery studio to finish up a few final things. Our last class is Monday...

The Damp

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. It's cold and damp. And gray. Coffee refill? Yes, please! Pottery class was a mixture of the good and the bad. First, the bad ... perhaps, you remember this bowl ? Well, apparently, someone in another class decided to pick it up and take a look ... and when the put it back, they broke it. Very sad. I was hoping to give the big bowl to the friend who gave me all his extra clay. Alas, I shall have to figure out something else to give him. On the good side, I am *very* pleased with how the items I glazed last time came out (see handleless pitcher pictured). No photos yet of the other items, because they are surprise presents. As for the handleless pitcher, I am thinking of using rope ... or wire ... or something to construct a fun, funky handle. We shall see ... I may go back to the studio today (or tomorrow) to do some hand-building to use up the last remaining bits of my clay. Fun times. Then, next class, I will do my final glazing. In other excit...

Weekend Update: Minty Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Happy Monday! My weekend was filled with mint, bourbon, knitting and rain! I know! So much fun! So, lessee ... Friday night, after my date canceled, I was settling in for a solitary night at home, but -lo and behold!- a neighbor invited me over for a fun-filled evening of margaritas and Trivial Pursuit. Good times. Srsly. Saturday, after hearing on NPR that it was Kentucky Derby Day, I decided to make Mint Juleps. However, I had no mint and no bourbon. Fortunately, a good friend saw my Facebook status update and personally delivered some mint from his yard. And took me out to lunch ... where I ran into CNTBD. Always good to see him. After lunch, we headed back to my place to watch movies and drink mint juleps! Hurrah! We watched Breach (about the Robert Hansen spy case) with Laura Linney and Ryan Phillipe. It was much better than I expected. And, as an added bonus, I knat quite a bit on my First Ever Sock (version 2.0). For those of you who are won...

Chopped Up Bits of Japanese Pop Stars

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! It is Friday! You made it! And May! How the fuck did that happen? So let's dance around the May Pole as I recount the exciting events of yesterday ... I got up. I ate lunch. I decided to head to the pottery studio. About 10 minutes into my walk to the metro station, I had to turn around. Explosive Poo! I stayed home and started my First Sock Ever version 2.0. I watched movies. I rescheduled my date (fear of Explosive Poo Recurrence is a Total teh Buttsecks Turn-Off). I made an Asian-esque Pasta Salad. I drank a raspberry margarita. I went to bed. And, I don't know what is up with me, but I have been having Very Vivid dreams recently. At least, last nights dreams were not blood-filled and there were no ghost cats (or rabbits ... or hamsters). As for the weekend, I currently have No Plans! GAH! C'mon, people. Invite me to do things! Make me feel loved. Have a great day! *smooches*
