Weekly Update: Time Flies When You Don't Do Much Edition

Good Sunday Morning, Kittens.

I can't believe I haven't updated all week.  Remember when I used to update daily/several times a day?  Yeah, me neither.  ANYWAYz, work has been work.  Everything is spiraling down into a cesspit of despair.  One colleague put in her two week notice, and the rest of us are frantically looking for different jerbz.  I don't think my situation is as shaky as some others', but, still, the handwriting is on the wall ...

Besides work stress, I did go running 3 times this week.  Yay!  I am thinking of waking up early in the morning to run, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.  It would involve me getting up around 4:20AM.  Which means, I will need to go to bed around 8:30 or 9.  That seems ridiculously early. I may give it a try for a week or two to see how it works.  I'll let you know.

On Thursday, I took a long lunch and met Carolyn and Kristen.  We haven't hung out together in YEARz.  so that was fun catching up.

On Friday, I met up with V for drinks and dinner.  We got a free drink at the first bar (Sidebar) and over-charged one drink at the restaurant (Pacci's).  So, I guess it all balanced out.

Yesterday, I ran errands.  I pickled the purple carrots.  That was a little disappointing, because they were only purple on the outside.  I was hoping they'd be purple all the way through.  Oh, well.  I had some leftover brine, so I also pickled some cherry tomatoes.  We'll see how that works out.  The carrots are delicious.  I threw in a jalapeno and a serrano chile, so they are a little spicy.  Nom.

Pickled purple carrots!

And, today, the only plan I have is to head over to K's this afternoon to hear about his trip to Brazil.  He's going to make caipirinhas. That should be boozy good times.

I should also iron.  And clean out the litter box.  Oh, boy.  Who knows how to have a good time?

Have a great day!

Weekend Update: Over-Eating Edition

Good Evening, Kittens!  I hope your weekend (and the last of last week) was full of fun and excitement and delicious foodz.  Mine sure was!

On Thursday, I made like an animated rat and made ratatouille.  The photo on the left is the Pre-Cooked Ratatouille.  I found a recipe in my Mark Bittman cookbook, How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, which included instructions for a stovetop version.  It was super easy.  And really yummy.  Yay!

Plus, it used up almost all of my CSA veggies for the week.

On Friday, I *finally* had my hairz did.  I missed my last two appointments because of my back and the training I went to.  SO, it had been almost 12 weeks since my last cut.  UGH.  My hairs were driving me crazy.  On the plus side, I suppose, is that you can now see what my actual natural hair color is ...

And this would be my actual natural color. So dark!  So gray!

Fortunately, an hour or two later, I was restored to my full blond glory ...

My Natural Color
I had hoped to meet up with Mike (Who Makes Cakes) afterwards, but he had plans.  Instead, I headed home.  As luck would happen, I ran into my friend, V, in Downtown Silver Spring.  We went out for a couple of happy hour beverages before he met a friend for dinner.  Good times.

On Saturday, I got up and did some cooking.  SCGB was hosting a birthday picnic in Meridian Hill Park.  So I volunteered to make a pasta salad and boozy punch (hurricances, using a mix my coworker brought back from New Orleans).  I also made a salsa puree ...

This morning's experiment - chili salsa puree?

The picnic was a lot of fun.  Good food.  Good conversation.  Boozy beverages.  Yay!

AND, today (Sunday), I got up and went for a run, my first run since my lower spine exploded. I was very slow, 3.2 miles in over thirty minutes (10:13/mile).  But, my back didn't hurt.  Which is a good thing.  Maybe I will be able to run the Army 10-Miler at the end of October after all.  *fingers crossed*

When I got back from my run, I had to rush around, because I had to meet Carolyn at El Centro D.F. on 14th Street at 1PM for brunch.  I got there just in time ... and survived the torrential downpour on the way.

The food there was soooo good.  They have a $35 all you can eat/drink brunch.  I had some yummy tacos and huevos con chile relleno and some more tacos and guacamole and a few too many micheladas (spicy tomato juice and beer).  THEN, we topped it all off with Mexican chocolate waffles.  OMG.  Died.

Carolyn drove me home (yay) and I fell asleep.  I pretty much have spent the rest of the day being all horizontal.  Although, I did iron about 6 shirts.

All in all, a totally fun weekend.

Sort of Like a Weekend Update+ Edition

Oh, hai, Kittenz!

Apparently, none of my local Kittens want any of my crappy pottery, so I guess I am going to be forced to leave it on the side of the road or throw it into Sligo Creek as a gift to the Pottery Gods.  Oh, well.  Crappy Pottery is so unloved.

(Alternatively, it could be that there are no Local Kittens, but the thought of that gives me the sadz.  Begone Sadz Thoughtz!)

When you last read VUBOQ things were peachy keen and we were on the Cusp of a Brand New Weekend.  Well, that weekend was chock full of fun and excitement.

On Friday, I had Happy Hour with my co-worker, Tomokito, Bobby (formerly known as Steveandbobby), and Jerry at Nellie's.  My co-worker left and the rest of us were joined by Mike (Who Makes Cakes) at Alero, where we had many, many margaritas.  At least, I had many, many margaritas.

Saturday, I made marinara sauce.  And sliced up watermelon. Because I had early Sunday morning plans, I stayed in, and I watched the second Sherlock Holmes movie with delicious Mr. Downey, Jr.  It was fun.  If only we could all survive our drug addictions and age so very, very well.

Sunday morning I was up early to metro to the National Airport to meet my friend, Allison, who had a long layover.  As soon as I walked in to the airport, she texted, "I overslept and missed my flight.  Sorry sorry sorry."

So, I treated myself to boozy breakfast at the airport.  And, then, I headed into the DeeCee to do a little museuming ...

And have a date ... with a guy who should be totally my type and I should totally be into him ... but I'm not.

Yet, we still may (or may not!) have eventually had sex back at my place.  The biggest turn-offs: (1) We didn't have interesting conversation; (2) He lied about his age (by 10 years.  Admittedly, he looks young enough to be the age he said (which was my age).  But, still, honesty is important); and (3) well,  maybe if we meet, I'll tell you in person ;-)

On Monday, I was off!  Yay!  I walked to the post office and mailed a package. I bought a PowerBall ticket ($320 million, you will be mine!).  And restocked my likker cabinet (I now have MOAR BOOZE!).  I am sure I did other things, but having the Moar Booze means not having the clear recollection.

Oh, I just remembered.  Tomokito and I made watermelon martinis.  YUM.

And, the rest of the week has been a blur of activity.  Mostly with work drama.  I had to change work stations.  Now, I can't find anything that I need.  And they haven't switched my phone yet, so I'm not getting any calls. Which might actually be a good thing.

And, now, I'm doing laundry.

You wish you had my life!

Have a great rest of the week!

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

Good Evening, Kittens~!
Happy Thursday!

All is well here in VUTOPIA ...

Except, a couple of days ago ... or was it yesterday?  I may have been a little tipsy.  I suppose the actual timeframe doesn't matter, because, there was a Death in the Family.

And then there were two. Another death in the family ...And, then, there were two

Yeah, I am down to only two martini glasses.  Ok.  That is kind of a lie.  I do have 3 ... ok ... 7 ... ok 10 others, but I kind of hate them and never use them.  3 of them are the overly decorated "specialty" martini glasses that you give as gifts for birthdays and such.  The other 7 I just don't really like.  I should give them away or sell them at a yard sell or something.  So, let's rephrase.  I am down to only two usable, sturdy martini glasses that I can keep in the freezer.

In other news, my two days of LEED training went well.  I learned a lot.  Now I have to study a bit and then sit for the exam.  Assuming I pass, I will be a LEED Green Associate.  Doesn't that sound exciting?  The highlight of the entire two day training session was, on the last day, I met up with the Former Blogger ShallowGal.  We went to a wine bar.  And drank wine.  It was Boozy Good Times.  Oh, yeah!

I gave ShallowGal this bowl.  I have lots of other pottery to give away from the Summer of Disappointing Pottery.  I'm afraid that most of this pottery is of the large-ish size, so they can only go to Local Kittens.

*cue sob story*

I am being hit with some medical bills and other not very fun expenses right now (yes, I'm looking at you $600 GovEnergy Registration Fee that still has not been refunded even though the conference was cancelled awhile ago), so I don't really have the extra cash for postage.  Sorry.  There will come a day when I can mail things to my Far Away Kittens again.

Have a look at this Flickr set and let me know if there's anything you like.  I will tell you why it sucks.  If you still want it, we can figure out a way to meet up and hand off the goods.  No payment necessary.  However, if you want to buy me a cocktail ...  I won't say no ;-)

Oh, and the handbuilt vase-thing, has been given away already.

And, finally, to shower a little love, maybe if more parents were as Totally Awesome as these, the Boy Scouts would consider changing their homophobic ways ...

Have a wonderful last day of the workweek tomorrow!

(and, now, to hurry up and publish this before my power goes out ... stupid thunderstorm)

Weekend Update: Boozy Good Times Edition

Good Evening, Kittens.

My weekend was pretty good.  On Saturday morning, I got up and helped my neighbors repaint our parking lot lines/numbers.  That certainly was fun.  Then, I bought some groceries and had boozy lunch at Adega.  They have a veggie burger now.  It is yummerz.

Later that afternoon, Dana and her BF picked me up and we went to a happy hour event with our former co-workers.  It was Boozy Good Times.  Very good to see some people who I haven't seen in a long, long time.

When I got home, I took a nap.  and made dinner.  And then I passed out.

On Sunday, I went to brunch, along with Tomokito, (No Longer a Baby) Baby Hana, and Tomokito's Husband, to the German and His Hot Wife's place.  That was fun.  We (and by "we" I mean "I") had lots of mimosas.  I didn't do much for the rest of the day after that.

AND, today, I was off as well.  So, I got up early and went to the Trader Joe's.  Then, I went to the Whole Foods.  And, I may (or may not) have had another Boozy Lunch at Adega.

Once home, I took a nap.  And, then, I ironed 12 shirts.  And had a martini.  and some chips and salsa.  And, soon, I need to make something for dinner.  and get ready for tomorrow.

On the plus side, I'm in training at George Mason University (I'm taking a LEED exam prep course) for the next two days.  So, I won't have to go to my horrible job until Thursday.  YAY!

I guess that is all my exciting news.  Hope you had a brilliant weekend.

A Lifetime of Nothing Special

Good Friday Evening, Kittens!

I may not have had a lifetime of nothing special (yet), but this week was mostly nothing special ... with a few minor exceptions.

On Tuesday, I met Eric (Not From Baltimore) for happy hour.  We went to Central.  I had a yummy cocktail.  It was like a French 75 (gin, champagne, lemon) with the addition of cucumber and Benedictine.  Tasty.  Boozy.  Durnk.

On Wednesday, can you guess what I did?  I'll give you a hint:  It starts with an L and rhymes with "raundry."

Then, on Thursday, I met D (the guy recently out of the 20 year relationship that went all batshit crazy on his ex.  Remember him?) for happy hour.  And, let's just say ... he's still crazy.  Of course, he still wants me.  But that shit ain't happenin'.  Really.  I don't need that kind of crazy in my life right now ... or ever.  I did have many many margaritas though.  and cheese dip.  And that's always a good thing.

Today, after work, I picked up the last of my pottery from the Summer Session.  I am mostly displeased.  I do like the handbuilt thingy pictured above. And the handbuilt bowl I made.  But most of the other things have flaws that make me not love them as much.  You can check out the Summer 2012 Set by clicking, like, here.

If you don't feel like clicking, like, there, here's a photo from the set:

Cracked Bowl

As I went through the pictures, I think I am missing a vase ... I hope I trimmed it and forgot to glaze it.  Otherwise, it, too, is a lost cause ...

AND, I have lots of fun things planned for the weekend.  You will have to wait until Monday (or Tuesday, since I am off on Monday) to read about them.

Have a great weekend!
