Weekend Update: The Best Day of the Year Edition

Image
Hello, Kittens! I hope you all remembered that Monday was the Best Day of the Year!  And, I had a super-fantastic 4-day weekend to celebrate it! On Friday, I picked up the rental car and, after running a few errands (in which a "few errands" means "eating lunch and buying booze"), I drove to pick up Mike (Who Makes Cakes).  Then, we drove to pick up my cuddly little boo bear, M. And, then, we all drove to Virginia Beach. It. Took. For. EVER! Once we arrived, we checked in to our fabulous resort hotel and, then, went out to dinner. I may have had a few cocktails. Then, Mike (Who Makes Cakes) and I chilled in the hotel bar, whilst M (who may have had a few too many cocktails) went to bed.  Boo Bear just can't hang with the big boys ;-)  LOLz. Saturday was ABSO-fucking-LUTELY gorgeous.  After breakfast, we walked to the Virginia Beach Convention Center so I could pick up my (and Tomokito's) Shamrock Half Marathon runner's packets. Mike (Wh...

Catching Up + Pottery

Good evening, Kittens! How the heck did it become March already?  On the plus side of the time flying is that it is almost the Best Day of the Year!  YAY! What happened last month?  Hmmmm ... M and I had a bit of a spat, but we made up. I went to Detroit for work.  Detroit.  In February.  I kinda hate my boss (except, I really like my boss(es) and they felt bad about sending me to Detroit, so I also get to go to Miami in May.  Oh, yeah~!).  BUT, I did get to hang out with the SuperFantastic Cuzin and (the blogger formerly known as) GayProf. As is my usual MO, I also made pottery.  Here are some photos: A flower pot, because I accidentally put my finger through the bottom while painting on the slip design ... oops An OK ish mug A teacuppy thing (obviously I need to work on my handle pulling) A Japanese-style teacup (because it was too dry to attach a handle.  bah.) A bowl with some glaze crawl (maybe it gives it p...

Weekend Update: Best Day of the Year Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! As you may know, yesterday (3/17) was the Best Day of the Year!  And, I spent the entire Best Day of the Year weekend in fabulous and exciting New York City!  *w00t* But, before I left, M came over on Thursday night for a little pre-birthday celebration (and a lot of hot buttsecks).  He gave me a watch as my present, which was very sweet ... but also shows that he doesn't listen very well.  I had suggested that he not buy me a present, but should cook dinner or something for me sometime in the near future.  Anyway, this is the watch: It is cute.  and green. Then, Friday morning, there may (or may not) have been more buttsecks and I may (or may not) have been a smidge late for work ... It was after work when the real fun began.  I metro'ed over to Union Station and had time to have 2 cocktails, a beer, and locate a likker store that sold little boxes of wine before boarding my train to NYC. I arrived in NYC aroun...

Weekends Update: Catching Up Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! Let's play catch-up!  Two weekends ago, I flew to North Carolina.  It was my Dad's 75th Birthday.  So, after work (and after a couple of martinis), I caught a plane to my brother's place in Greensboro.  Then, the next morning, we drove the 3.5 hours to my parents' town.  There we had a lovely lunch with about 10 of my parents' friends in the beautiful (if somewhat stinky) town of Canton.  Canton's Paper Mill  After lunch, we just chilled at the parents' house and eventually had dinner at a Thai restaurant.  It was not that great.  It started snowing.  "The snow's supposed to stop around 6PM," Dad said.  It snowed all night.  The View from My Parents' Deck Because it was (a) snowy and (2) 24 degrees F outside, I decided to wait to do my 11 mile run until I got to Greensboro.  Which is what I did ... And, then, I had an early dinner and several cocktails with my brother, his gf, and the...

Weekend Update: The Best Weekend of the Year Edition

Good Afternoon, Kittens! So, yesterday, was the Best Day of the Year! I hope you spent it the way God intended: Spending some quiet time reflecting on the Awesomeness of VUBOQ and then getting stupid drunk. At least, that's pretty much what I did ... On Friday, I had the day off (yay!). I did lots of shopping and cleaning. Having a (mostly) clean house is sooooooo nice. Late that afternoon, FedEx stopped by. I had a package! Someone sent me this: It's a t-shirt! And SUPERCUTEZ! (In fact, I'm wearing it right now). There was no note, so thank you, Mystery Person, for the t-shirt! I *heart* it. Saturday morning, I slept in! Yay! Until, like, 9. Isabella wouldn't let me sleep any later. Silly kitteh. I opened up my birthday package from my parents. It was chock full of goodies! Cookies! Cheese biscuits! Gift cards to Barnes & Noble and Jaleo! Yay! Then, I went for a 7 mile run. I set a 10K PR - 55:18. Go me! (Of course, while I was struggling th...

Quoth the VUBOQ, Nevermore!

Good Evening, Kittens. Apologies for the lack of postings, there is something about waking up earlier than normal to commute to Baltimore and getting home later than usual that is, like, totally exhausting. Yeah, so I was at this conference for 3 days. It was good. I learned a lot. And, there was a lot of free time ... Unfortunately, Eric from Baltimore was too busy (*cough* he hates me *cough*) to hang out during lunch. As were a couple of other friends. *sigh* Somehow, I managed to survive on my own ... So the highlight of Day One was this: Eggplant "Meat"loaf Sandwich from B & O American Brasserie Also, two glasses of wine. It's OK to drink during lunch ... at a conference! The highlight of Day Two was this: I'm not even that big a fan of the EAP, but when in Baltimore ... Also, beer. And a little more beer. And, then, I may have had some more beer. (What? It was beautiful day, and I found a patio. It's allowed.) The highlight of Day Three was th...

Checking In

Good morning, kittens! Just checking in. I'm in Charm City for a conference. I leave super early and get home all tired. Other than that, all is well. I'll have a more detailed post up in the next few days. And, just in case you've forgotten, today is Pi Day! (mmmm. Pi) And, only three more days until the Best Day of the Year. Have you done your shopping? Are your packages in the mail? Have a great day! *smooches*

Oh, Hai. It's March.

Good Evening, Kittens. As you may remember, last year, I participated in the Puntabugang Swimsuit Calendar ( Hello, I'm Mr. December ). This year, the theme of the Calendar is Holidays . And, I am March, which has the Best Day of the Year and the Best Holiday of the Year in it. And, they just so happen to be the same day! Wow. How did that happen? Fortunately for all of us, I am showing A LOT less skin this year, but -thanks to the incomparable photoshop skillz of Michelle M- my photo is still SUPERCUTEZ. Oh, yeah. I'm at the end of the rainbow, bitches. We weren't able to find photos of shirtless Leprechauns to dance around me, but I think it's a fun photo even without them. I've already committed to next year's calendar! Can't wait to find out what the theme is ... I hope it isn't something like "S&M Fantasies" ... or maybe that could be fun. Have a great night! *smooches*

Weekend Update: Best Weekend of the Year Edition

Good Morning, Kittens. This is going to be a long-ass post, I think. Four days of Birthday Fun! and Excitement! Woo hoo! So, Thursday was the Big Day! I turned 41! W00t! I woke up kind of early to go to the MVA to get my driver's license renewed. I couldn't renew by mail because my address needed to be changed. Bah. So, I get to the MVA Office at 8:45AM. I punch my "reason for visit" into the computer and it spits out my number. As I'm processing the number, it's called out! I went straight to the counter and was out of the MVA, new license in hand, in about 15 minutes. How sweet was that? I had been planning on being there for at least an hour and a half. With all the extra time, I took myself out for breakfast. Mmmm. Bloody Mary. After eating, I went home and chilled for awhile before I headed to the pottery studio, where I made this: CUTE! After pottery studio, I stopped off at Adega for some wine and eggplant fries. Mmm. Eggplant fries! Lat...

How an Asshole-y Ex Can Ruin a Perfectly Fun Photo

Remember my 40th Birthday Party? I sure do ... well, parts of it, at least. I may or may not have been durnk when this photo was taken. Ray finally sent me the pix he took at my party. I am in the process of uploading them to flickr. Stay tuned! *smooches* PS. Who has the rockingest Friday nights? Oh, yeah. That'd be me.

Weekend Update: Party Event of the Decade Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! What a weekend. I am exhausted ... and not quite ready to go back to work. On Friday, I met the brother for patio margaritas at Lauriol Plaza. Then, while he and his friends got settled in the hotel, I walked over to Mr. Fantastic's apartment for a quick nap. After the nap, I met the brother and friends at the Front Page for happy hour. I went home early (because someone needed to Look Good for Saturday's Party Event of the Decade). Saturday morning, I did some final cleaning and shopping. Around 1:30PM, the always fabulous BOSSY arrived. We metro'ed into DC, dropped our stuff off at Mr. Fantastic's and headed to a fun little watering hole in Columbia Heights for beers and fried olives. Yes. Fried olives. Delicious. Eventually, the wonderful David arrived and we rushed around getting ready for the party. I am still gathering pictures from the party (I didn't take any pix), but here are a few highlights ... The Cake (by Mike (Who Ma...

The Busy. I Haz It.

Good Morning, Kittens. Well, it's almost time for 40th Birthday, Part II. My big party is tomorrow night. My brother and some of his friends are arriving this afternoon. Then, several other Very Special Guests will be hitting the DC area tomorrow. So excited. This party is going to be FAB-U-LOUS! Srsly. The DJ is booked. The food is ordered. Mike (Who Makes Cakes) is diligently working on my cake (we hope!). I can't wait! Yesterday was a day of preparation. I went to the grocery store. I did laundry. I cleaned and tidied parts of the abode. Around 3PM, SCGB and I walked up to McGinty's for beers and appetizers and to enjoy this gorgeous Spring weather. Mr. Fantastic joined us around 4. Then, we came home. I put the champagne on ice and began making a couscous salad for dinner. After eating, we watched I.Q. , the movie from the 90s about Albert Einstein's niece (Meg Ryan) and a mechanic (Tim Robbins). Today is Mr. Fantastic's birthday. I made him a H...

The Aftermath

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. As you may know, someone very important to us turned 40 yesterday (at precisely 12:34PM). And he had a VERY good day (with one minor exception ... which we will get to later). After waking up and opening my gift from my parents (gift cards to Whole Foods, Target, Barnes & Nobles, and Jaleo), I donned a fabulous Marc Jacobs floral shirt and headed into DC for my appointment with the Colornatrix. Sufficiently reblonded, I then went to Dupont Circle to meet Mr. Fantastic. We relaxed in the sun and then went to Luna Cafe on P Street for lunch. I had a veggie burger. And two beers! After lunch, I got a tattoo. It was expensive and painful. But well worth it. Then, I returned home, donned another (less sweaty) fabulous floral shirt and met some friends for a multi-cultural St. Patrick's Day/Birthday dinner at El Golfo. Good food. Margaritas. Sunshine. I couldn't have wished for a better day ... Except for the minor issue of not getting any birthday ...

It's the Best Day of the Year!

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Guess what? I'm FORTY! Here's the First Photo of My Forty Morning Face: And I already received my first present ... from the Psychokitty. Yes, she sensed it is my birthday and gave forth the Vomit of Joy. Huzzah. I'm sure even more excitement awaits (including a hair appointment and a fun dinner with friends). I also will open my present from my parents later. And, Huge Hugs of Thanks to all of you who have made a donation to Food and Friends in my honor. (It's not too late to do that you know!) Have a great and happy Saint Patrick's Day! *smooches*

A Very Good Day

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Are we all recovering from the Best Day of the Year festivities? Nursing those hangovers with lots of juice and Chik-fil-a Egg and Cheese biscuits? I had a very good day! My hair? It looks Fabulous! And Blonde! Hurrah. I got boatloads of great gifts ... 2 KnitPicks gift cards (1 from some of my neighbors and 1 from Goblinbox and Her W2Crew). An iPod Nano (it's GREEN !) from the parents (as well as Whole Foods and Target gift cards). 2 Bottles of Gin (Hendricks from Tomokito and Leopolds (pictured) from Sassy ). A lovely plant from Tomokito's Mother-in-Law. And a MotherFucking Shitload of Birthday Wishes from many wonderful readers and friends! And, the best thing? I still have a few more Cards Stuffed with Cash and Presents to come! It's like the Best Day of the Year has become the Best WEEK of the Year! Ya-HOO!!! After getting my hair did, I came home, changed, and left again. I met CNTBD at a fun new(ish) restaurant, Founding Farmers ...
