Good Morning, Kittens! Well, I had a full Monday off (yay! two down, two more to go!). Sometimes, I love my work schedule. ANYWAY, so, first, I went for a 3.51 mile run. Then, I showered, ate, and headed off to the dentist. Now, I have CLEAN TEETHEZ! and, no cavities or major issues (other than the possible root canal which has been lingering since last year and removal of wisdom teeth. however, with careful brushing/flossing/general teethez care, my dentist does not seem overly concerned about the wisdom teeth. yay). While at the dentist, it started to snow. WTF? I mean, ok, it is January, but, over the weekend, it was, like, 60 degrees. GAH! This is the kind of weather that gives you the cold/flu/crud/ick/ague. So, I wandered through the snow to the Trader Joe's. I did crazy shopping (and used a gift card I got for Xmas from the Parental Units). Good Morning, Kittens. Eleven years ago today, I became a(n ovo-lacto) vegetarian. I had recently finished my first semester in graduate school in an international environmental policy program. During the semester, one of the books we read was Peter Singer's Animal Liberation . Although I understood the animal cruelty argument, what truly resonated with me was how environmentally damaging the raising of animals for food is. The more I thought about it, the more I came to realize that, if I wanted a career in an environmental field, I would need to make some serious changes to my life and habits. How could I try to convince other people to work to improve the environment, if I couldn't make those changes myself? So, I resolved that I would become a vegetarian ... right after my Millennial Trip to Beijing (aka Land of Delicious Meats). Good morning, kittens. Yesterday was fun. I jetted out of work at 2:30 to deliver some documents to DC. Then, I walked to Barnes and Noble to make use of some birthday gift cards. I bought this: Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything Vegetarian ! I'm so excited. I've been wanting this book for AGES. Now, I haz it! Huzzah! I am planning to snuggle up on my sofa this evening with a cup of tea, my kitty, and this book. *woo hoobity hoo* Later, I went to my last [instructor-led] pottery class. We still have a few more sessions to use up clay and finish works-in-progress. I glazed three more things [a vase and two mugs], using a *new* color scheme. I know! You thought I could only glaze things in blue and white. This time I used green and a new brown glaze. We'll see how they turn out. I also threw two more mugs. A few weeks ago, I had a conversation (with SCGB?) about vegetarianism. He had read an article (which I can't find), which stated that the most common food items that would make a Vegetarian renounce Vegetarianism were pork products. So, kittens, it has come to this. Life is an odd balance and my juggling skills aren't what they used to be.
