Cold. Rain.

And I have no plans for a fun-filled Friday night. As it looks right now, after work, I'm going to swing by the cleaners to pick up my new (to me) fabulicious pimp daddy vinage coat (eBay! $9.99!). Then, I will park myself in front of the TV, knit, surf the innartubez, and eat leftover Chinese Spicy Noodle Soup . The DVD I have is Snakes on a Plane . I've actually been saving it to watch this weekend. Is that sad, or what? Saturday, I'm going to head up to Whole Foods to talk to the Washington Animal Recsue League (WARL) people. They've recently rescued over 100 small breed puppies from a puppy mill in Virginia. I would *LOVE* to adopt one (Cairn or Yorkshire Terrier), but I don't have the time/patience/living arrangement that is conducive to being a responsible dog owner. I will drop off a little donation for the sweet puppies though. I also want to talk to them about getting another kitty. Psychokitty Isabella sometimes seems a little lonely. I think she might li...

Is It All About the Dead Dog?

I have been misty-eyed and mopey all day. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just about learning of Oscar's death. Hidden away, I held this hope that John and I would eventually be on friendly terms. When that happened, we would get together every few weeks chatting about life and eating take-out Chinese, and I could visit with Oscar. Now, there isn't anything that ties me to John other than memories. All I have left is this aching empty feeling. Hope is the thing with feathers ... I really need to stop reopening old wounds.

What Fools These Mortals Be

Saturday night, or perhaps it was early Sunday morning, in a margarita-induced drunken stupor, I was online in a chatroom, saw John was online as well, so I sent him a short email. It was not much of anything, merely a "hi and I'm glad you are back and OK" kind of thing. I then passed out on my sofa. Sunday morning, I was v. overhung. Urgh. John had responded to my email, so I replied, closing with "If Oscar is there, please give him a big hug and squeeze from me." This morning, John replied to tell me that while he was in Iraq, Oscar had to be put down. He said he'd tell me the details when/if we met. I am sad. And, stupidly, I am feeling a little guilty, plagued by the What Ifs ... and, if you know me, you probably know what those are. Here's a photo of him in October 2005 (about 6 months old): Good-bye, Oscar.

Puppies, Kittens!

Last night, I went over to Mike's house to watch Episode 1 of America's Cutest Puppies . And, they. were. CUTE. OMG. The show was only 30 minutes. It was a lot of fun. I would recommend it as a fun Saturday evening diversion (It's on at 9PM on WE). I even think it would spawn a few fun drinking games, as well. The funniest thing is the response I got when I tried to get my friends to watch the show. Most looked at me with revulsion. Seriously, I practically had to beat Mike up to get him to TiVo the show. I don't get it. Something wrong with being cute? Something wrong with admitting you like to look at cute things? Is it, perhaps, that a show about cute puppies somehow threatens your masculinity? Which is kind of funny, since the majority of the friends I told are big flaming homos ... Oh, well. I made Mike watch the show with me last night, and he enjoyed it. AND, our favorite puppy WON! Yay! However, they haven't posted the winning pup on the website ... kinda su...

Puppy Pandemic!

As some of you may remember, I was the loving gay uncle to John's dog, Oscar, who we picked out at the Washington Animal Rescue League . Somehow, I ended up on their email list and ocassionally get requests for donations. If I have some spare pennies, I try to give. I mean, really, they provided a safe, loving space for Oscar, the Demondog Puppy from Hell. They can use all the help they can get. This morning, they sent a request: I’m writing you today with a real sense of urgency. There’s a disease outbreak plaguing dogs on the Eastern Seaboard, and our Medical Center has found itself right on the front lines of the battle. The disease is called parvovirus. It’s truly frightening, especially for puppies, for whom the disease is always fatal without treatment. Since the beginning of the year, every single litter of puppies we have taken in has been suffering from parvovirus. The good news is that, so far, we have managed to keep ahead of the disease. But we barely managed this, and ...
