Catching Up + Pottery

Image
Good evening, Kittens! How the heck did it become March already?  On the plus side of the time flying is that it is almost the Best Day of the Year!  YAY! What happened last month?  Hmmmm ... M and I had a bit of a spat, but we made up. I went to Detroit for work.  Detroit.  In February.  I kinda hate my boss (except, I really like my boss(es) and they felt bad about sending me to Detroit, so I also get to go to Miami in May.  Oh, yeah~!).  BUT, I did get to hang out with the SuperFantastic Cuzin and (the blogger formerly known as) GayProf. As is my usual MO, I also made pottery.  Here are some photos: A flower pot, because I accidentally put my finger through the bottom while painting on the slip design ... oops An OK ish mug A teacuppy thing (obviously I need to work on my handle pulling) A Japanese-style teacup (because it was too dry to attach a handle.  bah.) A bowl with some glaze crawl (maybe it gives it p...

Weekend Update: Ann Arbor Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! First off, my horrible week at work filled with much stress and dread turned out to be not so horrible after all.  I am still proceeding with caution, but I think the worst might be over.  YAY!  Still.  I need new jerbz.  Must get out of the craziness soon. On Friday, I left work after lunch to head to Ann Arbor, MI.  My co-worker drove me to Greenbelt Metro, so I could catch the express bus to BWI.  I got to the airport super early.  I had time for a couple of glasses of wine before boarding.  Yay! Once I arrived in Detroit, my superfantastic cuzin had arranged for a car service to drive me to her house.  Yay!  Easy!  Convenient!  Comfortable! We quickly ate some Chinese take-out.  I freshened up.  And, then, we all worked our way over to GayProf's BF's house for GP's Tenure Party!  Yay for Tenure!  The party was full of boozy good times!  And lots of delicious food!...

Week Update: Michigan Editigan

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! I am back from a fabulous few booze- and food-filled days visiting my fantastic cousin (and cousin-in-law) *and* GayProf in the Great Frozen Tundra ... where actually (and luckily) it was quite mild, temperature-wise. My arrival to the Frozen Tundra was uneventful. Suzanne picked me up at the airport around noon. I was still in the throes of the Worst Cold Ever, so we worked on rearranging our plans to hang out in Detroit that evening. Instead, Detroit came to us! Several of Suzanne and GayProf's friends joined us for dinner. We made chili. GayProf brought cornbread. We drank LOTS of wine. On Sunday, Suzanne and I wandered around the town. We ate lunch/brunch at Seva, a vegetarian restaurant. And, then, toured Suzanne's workplace, the Kelsey Museum . (They've recently undergone a HUGE renovation project ... and need to update their website). Later that afternoon, GayProf came over and we had cocktails (!) and played this superfun game, RoboRa...

Cuz + GayProf = Perfect Vacation

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. As you are reading this, I am heading to the airport. Yesterday afternoon, after I got home from another fabulous time with the Cuz and the GayProf , I went online to check my flight status and it said: CANCELLED!!!! (because of weather). I called the airline and they couldn't rebook me on a direct flight to DC until today. Extra Time with the Cuz! It is awesome! So, anyway, here's the rundown of my SuperFun Vacation ... I arrived on Thursday. The Cuz picked me up at the airport. We got to her house and had cocktails. Yay. Later, GayProf, who only lives a few blocks away (!), came over for dinner. We had lots of wine and pizza on the grill. And tiramisu. The next day, GayProf came over for lunch - leftover salad and prosecco. Then, we drove over to the Arboretum. It was lovely. See: Nature red in tooth and claw. We left the Arboretum to meet the Cuz, the Cuz-in-law, and some of the Cuz's co-workers/friends at Aut Bar, the gay bar in Mid...

Weekend Update: Wait 'til I Get Home Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. It's my last day in the Midwestern Funky Town. I'm meeting the SuperFantastic Cuzin and the GayProf for lunch later. Not sure if the SuperFantastic Cuzin-in-Law is coming with us. I'm flying out around 6 this evening. And will probably be back home around 9. I'll fill you in on all the exciting trip details tomorrow ... until then, here are a few pictures: Kitteh! GayProf! (I really like this picture. My guess is that he might try to exert some sort of editorial control.) SuperFantastic Cuzin Have a great day! *smooches*

Did You Feel the Earth Move? Under Your Feet?

Good Morning, Kittens! So, last night, I met GayProf ! YAY! And had a fabulous dinner with the cuzin and cuzin-in-law. It was so totally awesome I forgot to take pictures. Oops. Fortunately, the GayProf and I are hanging out today so there should be lots of fun photo opportunities. Now, I have to get to work on writing a fantastic cover letter for a totally fabulous job opportunity which has fallen into my lap. Fingers Crossed! *smooches* ps. As always, I will be twittering and facebooking throughout the day!

Jet Plane. I'm Leaving on One.

Good Morning, Kittens! Yesterday was super fun. I spent about 30 minutes on hold with the unemployment office. Then, I had lunch with my neighbor. I cooked smothered squash with basil. After that, I did laundry and took a nap. AND, I got a fantabulous Unemploymentiversary present from Mush: Mad Men, Season 1 and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert . Yay! I have the most awesomest friends ever! Pottery class was good, too. I trimmed and attached handles to two mugs. And I did lots of glazing. Next week is the last class of the session. I don't have a lot to do, but will figure out some way to use all my clay. Today, I must pack. Because ... and this is so exciting ... I am flying to a Midwestern Funky Town to visit my superfantastic cuzin (and her husband), and I will meet (OMGz!) the Most Desirable Man on the Blogosphere . Couldn't you just die? I know I could. I can't wait. 4 days of fun, food, drink, knitting, movie-watching, catching-up, and maybe even a tri...

Everything's Coming Up Roses and Daffodils

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Another cloudy rainy gray day here in Vutopia. However, things are looking up! Last night, I purchased my plane tickets to Detroit! Which is just a hop, skip and a jump from a funky, Midwestern town which just so happens to be the home of my SuperFantastic Cuzin (and Cuzin-in-Law)! And guess who lives just a hop, skip and a jump from the SuperFantastic Cuzin? (the photo is a clue) The last time I visited Michigan it was in the Dead of Winter. I wonder what it looks like without a blanket of snow ... I'll be visiting the weekend of the 7th of August (and I'm assuming there is no snow in Michigan in August). So excited! In totally unrelated news ... today is the birthday of the woman after whom I named my kitteh, Isabella Rossellini! Go watch some Green Porno in her honor. Grrl is looking pretty damn good for 57. *smooches*

Dig Dug Digged

Good afternoon, kittens. My SuperFantastic Cuzin is currently working on a dig in Israel. And am I jealous? Of course I'm not jealous. Ok. Maybe I'm a little jealous, but only because she said she might be going to Petra during her break. And I would love to go to Petra. And maybe find the Holy Grail ! If any of you are interested in what goes on at a dig (and not just the steamy hanky-panky and imbibing of copious amounts of alcomahol ... oh, wait, that's what goes on at my house), you can check out the blog she and the other conservator have started: Kelsey Museum Dig Diary Enjoy!

Also, over the weekend, the SuperFantastic Cuzin's little brother (also my cuzin) became a DADDY! And, I became a SuperFantastic First Cuzin Once Removed. Welcome to the world, Cooper [It's my grandmother's maiden name, btw]. I'm think...

I'm WET! I'm Hysterical! And, I'm WET!*

At the start of my break, the sun started peeping through the blanket of gray clouds, so I packed up my troubles and headed to Safeway. Halfway there, it started raining again. GAH! Umbrella-less, I continued on my journey ... where I found: Pumpkin Carving Kits - 60% OFF! suh-WEET! And, CANDY CORNS! OMGWTFBBQPONIEZ! I LOVE CANDY CORNS. I bought 3 bags. One for the party, and two for very special friends overseas. The BYOP is FAST APPROACHING!!! Can you feel the excitement? CAN YOU?!?! I had a funny story to relate next, but the yarn I ordered last week arrived and I've forgotten the story. Maybe it'll come back to me in a minute ... It did! Another reason to be excited about the BYOP, besides the aforementioned Carving Kits and Candy Corns, is this party will be the debut of the Made in NC blue pottery chip-and-dip bowl, which my parents bought for my birthday. After showing it to Y last week, along with the matching big plate/bowl thing and relish tray (both previous gifts ...
