Week Update: Miserably Ill Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! This past week has been chock full of fun and excitement!  Especially if you define "fun and excitement" as "feeling like Death Warmed Over!"  YAY! I contend that V from Philly gave me some sort of Deadly Philadelphia Germ.  He refutes that claim, because he has not been sick. Whatever.  Carrier. ANYWAY, I spent most of the week feeling like El Crapola.  The cold has been mostly in my chest.  Lots of coughing and hacking.  Not much sinus pain (huzzah for small favors).  And, thus, I did not do much. I did go to pottery class, where I threw two (future) mugs and a bowl. I also made two very yummy soups: black lentil/tomato/vegetable and thai red curry butternut squash (pictured above). This weekend, I have been feeling a bit better.  Still, I cancelled my planned daytrip to Philly to hang out with the fabulous Lora and Bossy.  I will see them -fer sure- when I run the Philadelphia Half Marathon in Nove...

Weekly Update: Time Flies When You Don't Do Much Edition

Image
Good Sunday Morning, Kittens.  I can't believe I haven't updated all week.  Remember when I used to update daily/several times a day?  Yeah, me neither.  ANYWAYz, work has been work.  Everything is spiraling down into a cesspit of despair.  One colleague put in her two week notice, and the rest of us are frantically looking for different jerbz.  I don't think my situation is as shaky as some others', but, still, the handwriting is on the wall ... Besides work stress, I did go running 3 times this week.  Yay!  I am thinking of waking up early in the morning to run, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.  It would involve me getting up around 4:20AM.  Which means, I will need to go to bed around 8:30 or 9.  That seems ridiculously early. I may give it a try for a week or two to see how it works.  I'll let you know. On Thursday, I took a long lunch and met Carolyn and Kristen.  We haven't hung out togethe...

A Lifetime of Nothing Special

Image
Good Friday Evening, Kittens!  I may not have had a lifetime of nothing special (yet), but this week was mostly nothing special ... with a few minor exceptions. On Tuesday, I met Eric (Not From Baltimore) for happy hour.  We went to Central.  I had a yummy cocktail.  It was like a French 75 (gin, champagne, lemon) with the addition of cucumber and Benedictine.  Tasty.  Boozy.  Durnk. On Wednesday, can you guess what I did?  I'll give you a hint:  It starts with an L and rhymes with "raundry." Then, on Thursday, I met D (the guy recently out of the 20 year relationship that went all batshit crazy on his ex.  Remember him?) for happy hour.  And, let's just say ... he's still crazy.  Of course, he still wants me.  But that shit ain't happenin'.  Really.  I don't need that kind of crazy in my life right now ... or ever.  I did have many many margaritas though.  and cheese dip.  And that's alw...

Undateable

Good Evening, Kittens.  I guess I need to fill you in on all the fun and excitement of my week. There was none. Ta-da!  Haha.  I kid.  There was some.  The best part was the celebrating Tomokito's Birthday with many, many margaritas on Monday afternoon, and then trekking into DC for an Adult Sleepover with K (although there wasn't a whole lot of sleeping ... *ahem*). While I was on my way to his place, he texted and said I should meet him at his friends' house in Columbia Heights.  So I did.  We had drinks there.  His friends are nice.  A showed up (if you remember, it was at A's birthday brunch way back in -like- March where I met K).  Another mutual friend showed up.  We left.  Went back to K's place and commenced Sleeping Over (in an Adult way). Tuesday morning = UGH.  Actually, most of Tuesday = UGH.  It was a rough day.  Wednesday, I did laundry. Thursday, OMG, that's today!  I had to sit...

Checking In

Good morning, kittens! Just checking in. I'm in Charm City for a conference. I leave super early and get home all tired. Other than that, all is well. I'll have a more detailed post up in the next few days. And, just in case you've forgotten, today is Pi Day! (mmmm. Pi) And, only three more days until the Best Day of the Year. Have you done your shopping? Are your packages in the mail? Have a great day! *smooches*

Housekeeping

Dearest 3 Kittens Who Still Read This Blog (and Comment): I have recently been inundated with spam (not the canned meat) comments, and by "inundated" I mean "maybe like 4." Thus, I have set the Comment Approval Thingy. I am so sorry that your terribly witty, yet simultaneously tragically beautiful comments will not appear instantaneously. I will endeavor to approve them as quickly as possible. (How many adverbs can I use in one paragraph? Hmm ... 57!) <3 <3 <3 and *smooches* More later! Luvz, vuboq

Week Update: Repetitive Redundancies Edition

Image
Oh, hai, Kittens. It's been awhile. And, I have an explanation ... The new gmail doesn't work on my work computer. So, the formatting of my blog posts get all screwy when I try to publish them at work. Also, not much is going on. I don't know how much longer I can write about the suckiness of my job, the patheticness of my lovelife, and the fact that I usually spend my free time ironing. I really need to branch out a bit, I think. Anyway, so things of note last week were that I got a new hat (see picture). A couple of weeks ago, I went out to dinner with a friend (with whom I wouldn't mind being more than friendly) and lost my favorite hat. I decided to order a new one from Zappos. I ordered it Thursday evening. And, it arrived on Friday. Crazy fast service! YAY! I also had my annual performance review. It went well enough, I guess. The program manager seems more committed to ensuring that I get proper training. We shall see ... And, I have a semi-big pres...

Week Update: What I've Been Doing Edition

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens. Well, it's been awhile, hasn't it? I would have blogged more whilst in Recuperation Mode; however, I didn't really do much other than sit on the sofa, take Percocet and have Very Weird Dreams. All of the days of the past week have sort of blurred into one big, very long day. Fortunately, the PWS was not nearly as horrible as last time. I don't know if that's because the surgery was not as invasive/extensive as last time or if I took more Percocet. Anyway, can't complain about less PWS, that's fer sure. I did manage, in my drug-fueled haze, to get a few things done ... I sorted a huge pile of papers into Shred, Toss, File, and Taxes piles ... and then filed and tossed the File, Tax and Toss piles. Shred is still sitting there waiting for me to borrow a neighbor's shredder. AND, I created a HUGE mess trying to get several packages ready to mail: AND, I finished knitting the Panda Scarf for my BFF from college (except I still n...

Weekend Update: Do Nothing Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Welcome to my wrap-up of all the excitement that happened this weekend ... And, there you have it! Wasn't that awesome! Haha. I kid. I kid. I did have *some* fun this weekend. Lessee ... Friday night, Cute Neighborhood Boy came over. We had cocktails and watched "The Aviator." We also made out (during the slow bits of that movie ... and, fortunately, there are a lot of slow bits). There also may (or may not) have been some of the Oral Secks. But, I don't blow and tell. OK. Maybe I do. ANYWAY, on Saturday, SCGB and I had a delicious lunch at El Golfo. Mmm. Spinach Enchiladas. Then, after I had a nap (and SCGB did some laundry), we had cocktails and measured my kitchen for the Great Kitchen Remodeling Project. Later, Tomokito came down and we had (more) cocktails and watched Burlesque . Yay. It is awesome. Sunday, I was a blob all day long. I should have gone to the birthday brunch of a one of the guys from the Summer of Fun. Howev...

Cherry Red

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Since work sucks. And I have a HUGE presentation today (although, if I do say so myself, I look pretty darn cute). AND the rest of my life is dull as dishwater (although, I do have a possible date with the Cute Neighborhood Boy tonight) ... let's talk about something REALLY exciting ... My Kitchen Remodeling Project (which is still in the "Concept Phase"). First, I have found my Cherry Red Dream Refrigerator (pictured). It comes in "studio" size (14.4 cu. ft.). And, I WANT! And, who cares if it uses up 25-30% of my remodeling budget? NOT ME! I can make it work. I can. I know I can. My fabulous cuzin sent me the book, Small Spaces, Beautiful Kitchens for my birthday. I need to read it soon and formulate a plan. SCGB has agreed to help me take measurements and design what I want. FUN. Maybe I will have new kitchen by the end of the Spring or sometime mid-Summer. Wouldn't that be awesome? Good-bye, Asbestos Green Floor Tile. G...

12 of 12: It's Hard to Take Interesting Pictures When You Don't Leave the Sofa All Day

Image
Good evening, Kittens! I woke up this morning to this: and this: Rainy and cool. Sweet. A perfect day to do nothing but sit on the sofa and get rid of the last vestiges of germyickiness. So I made the Breakfast of Champions ... Later, I ventured out into the rain to check on the habenero peppers. I picked 4 ... This would be one of the views from my sofa ... I watched movies and knitted ... Isabella helped ... And I did the dishes ... I ventured back outside to pick some lemon verbena ... Two cups lemon verbena + 1/2 cup sugar + food processor = [(1 tbsp lemon verbena/sugar paste + 1 cup water) + bourbon]/rocks = More knitting. Dinner (of leftover pizza). Several movies. And, then, I put my pottery stuff in a bag and left it by K-Factor's door ... I'm off to Philadelphia tomorrow for the day. I *may* be back in time for pottery class, and K-Factor said she could take my stuff to class in case I can make it. yay! And that was my day. Bed time soon! *smooches*

Exciting Thursday Nights

Image
Good evening, Kittens. This is how I spent my evening ... Create avatar Making an animated gif using some free website. I took the pictures when Dr. Mel was visiting two weeks ago(? whenever ...). I think he was in the bathroom and I was entertaining myself taking self-portraits. Not much other news to report ... I'm glad tomorrow is Friday. I don't have many weekend plans. Tomorrow, I'm meeting Ray for dinner. Saturday morning, I must clean. In the evening, I have a date. And, on Sunday, more cleaning and -perhaps- my final trip to the pottery studio to pick up the last few pieces from the Spring session. Have a great night and a fabulous weekend. *smooches*

La la la

Image
Good Evening, Kittens. Guess who forgot to blog today? Yep. That would be me. Well, it's not that I "forgot" to blog per se ... it's more like I was actually busy in the morning (which is my regular blogging time) ... and then in the afternoon I was too braindead. Now, I am still braindead, but I thought I should give it the ol' college try. So, yesterday nothing exciting happened. I did laundry. I called my parents. I went to bed. This morning, I was stuck in a 2.5 hour Meeting of Clusterfuckery (also known as our weekly staff meeting). 'Twas awful. Soon after the meeting, we went to lunch. And then I did lots of work prepping for tomorrow. I'm having a guest speaker come in to talk about Wise Water Use. Should be fun. After work, I picked up my new contact lenses. Yay! Expect photos of a no longer bespectacled me ... assuming I can get the tricky little suckers in my eyes. I haven't worn contacts for a couple of years. I was also expect...

Weekend Update: Panera Blogging Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! What a dreary, gray weekend. And, to top it all off, my intartubez are not working this morning. Thus, I am having breakfast and free 'netz at the local Panera. Who has all teh funz? That would be me. Oh, yeah. Anyway, Friday night was dull. Even though I was supposed to hang with Mike (Who Makes Cakes), my stomach was feeling all icky. So, after passing off his cake carrier and spending a few minutes scoping out teh hot guyz in Dupont Circle, I headed home ... where I blobbed on the sofa. Saturday was Co-op Yard Work Day. We weeded and mulched and cut back bushes and had a grand ol' time. Afterwards, I went to the eye doctor. On the plus side, my prescription hasn't changed in nearly 3 years. On the minus side, I am now $175 poorer. On the plus side, I will have new contacts come this Wednesday. Yayz. I can wear sunglasses again. Huzzah. On the way home from the eye doctor, I stopped at the Whole Foods and purchased myself a little pic...

Excitement. My Life Doesn't Have It.

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Not much going on right now. So, enjoy the progress on the Never-Ending Baby Blanket of Doom (pictured). I've been working on it almost every night for nearly a week and am about 1/3 done. Yesterday, I did laundry. The washing machine threw itself out of balance and so I had to take a whole bunch of stuff out. If those sodden clothes *ever* dry in this weather, it will be a miracle. Later in the evening, I went upstairs to hangout with Tomokito and her family. Her parents are visiting from Japan and her father returns today. That was fun. I have forgotten *so* much Japanese. Of course, it's been well over ten years since I have spoken it/heard it on a regular basis. No real plans today. It's cold and dreary and gray and rainy. I may venture forth to the pottery studio this afternoon. We shall see. *smooches*

Weekend Update: Comfortable Sofa Edition

Good Morning, Kittens! I had a superbusy weekend in which I barely moved from off my sofa. I *heart* my sofa. On Friday, I thought about going out to happy hour. But, it was cold. Everyone was busy. And my sofa was so comfortable. Saturday, I knitted. It snowed (just a dusting). And, later that evening, I headed over to a party hosted by some neighbors. Fun times. Sunday, very. hung. over. And, I became Officially Old. Two kids were skateboarding on our sidewalk. It was annoying. So, I went out and told them they couldn't skateboard here. They left. I might as well have been banging on the window screaming "Get Off My Lawn!" *sigh* And that was my weekend. Chock full of sofa-surfing. Today, I have to fax my transcript to EPA for a position which closes tomorrow. No other plans. It's cold. More later. *smooches*

Tuesdayness

Good morning, kittens! How's work? Must be busy, because you're not reading my blog ... srsly, is unemployment *that* boring? My stats (not that I check them obsessively or anything) have dropped considerably since the unemployment began ... So one must wonder ... (a) have August blog-reading doldrums set in? (b) is VUBOQ uninteresting now that he has no job? (c) does it really matter? Soon, it will be Fall, VUBOQ will consider going Red 4 Autumn again, and all will be well in Vutopia. Well, if VUBOQ has a job, that is. Meanwhile, the exciting events from yesterday were ... 1. The Phone Interview with MD Unemployment was fine. After they confirm my "bonus" with my previous employer, they will reinstate the benefits. Huzzah. 2. I completed another Federal Government application. (If I get this one, I'll be moving. Anyone want to guess where?) 3. I went to two different grocery stores. 4. I registered for the next pottery session, which starts in September...

You, Too, Can Be Just Like VUBOQ

It's easy really ... here are my SuperExciting plans for the evening: 1. Vote in the Special Election*. 2. Wash the ginormous pile of dishes in my sink. 3. Close out my May budget. 4. Update my June budget. 5. Weed the flower bed. 6. Work on answering some KSAs**. 7. Drink martini. 8. Make dinner. 9. Watch DVDs. I'm not sure but there could also be cat-box cleaning and vacuuming at some point! Follow these 9 (possibly 11) Simple Steps*** , and you, too, will be living the Fabulous Vutopian Lifestyle**** ! *VUBOQs Rock the Vote! **Knowledge, Skills, and Assessments: Essay questions on government applications. They are full of teh suck. ***Some assembly required. ****Batteries not included.

Last Night Enumerated

1. Housework 2. Made dinner 3. Board meeting 4. Ate dinner 5. Bed I don't know if my evening could've been more exciting. That's all I got. More later. *smooches*

That Which Was Lost

I found my mittens last night! Yay! Apparently, I had left them in the laundry room when I was replacing the fuses. And, speaking of laundry, that is what I will be doing tonight. I will not be watching Project Runway , because Tomokito has to go to San Antonio for work. And we will not be able to access her cable. Boo. Hiss. Oh, well. I think I will invite the neighbors down for booze and conversation though. I guess that's about it. Perhaps I will be more interesting later on ... but, I doubt it. *smooches*
