Tell Me About It, Stud

Image
Sligo Creek before the Deluge Good Afternoon, Kittens! Well, Sandy has come and gone.  She tried to do her worst, but we persevered.  The power flickered once, but that was it.  Hurrah! So, how did I spend my day "working from home?" I'm so glad you asked ... I baked a pumpkin in my toaster oven. I sat on the sofa a lot ... except when a certain Ball o' Kitteh stole my spot. I ventured out into the wind and the rain to take a photo of the roaring torrent, Sligo Creek. I made Blue Hubbard Squash Risotto, using this recipe (minus the radicchio). Isabella and I celebrated when the radiators came on. Then, I headed up to K-Factor and the Canadian's apartment for an evening change of scenery. And, that was my day.  Good times for sure. Today, I am trying to be productive, but it's not happening.  Boo. *smooches*

Weekend Update: Writhing in Pain (well, not really) Edition

Image
Good morning, Kittens! Well, this weekend was certainly an interesting one. After receiving the shock of the Great Sunflower Massacre of 2011, I spent most of the weekend either on the sofa or in the bed. Two of my favorite places to be, actually. On Saturday, I watched Harry Potter 1-4 on DVD. I finished the body of my seamless sweater, but lack the proper needles to begin the sleeves. I think, because of the number of stitches required, knitting on circular needles will be difficult. So, I need to purchase some #11 dpns. Yay. Instead of working on the sleeves, I decided to turn the heel on my first tweedy brown sock. I used the Zimmerman German Heel. It was actually easy (once I figured out that "knit up" = "pick up and knit"). This is where I am so far: Saturday evening, I showered (!) and ventured upstairs for a little going away party for my neighbors who are moving to Washington state in the Fall. So sad. I really liketh them. They are so pure and go...

Happy Birthday!

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Today is a Very Special Kitten's Birthday! As I was cleaning out my file cabinet a few weekends ago, I happened across Isabella's medical records. According to those records, she was born on February 1, 2000! She and my brother have the Same Birthday! (which I guess means that today is TWO Very Special Kittens' birthday ...) Anyway, in honor of my sweet, sweet kitteh's birth, I made a donation to the Washington Animal Rescue League's Silver Whiskers Fund for Cats. It's a special program WARL has for the harder-to-adopt older kitteh: The Silver Whiskers Club aids in the adoption of older cats, cats with chronic but manageable health problems, and cats with disabilities. It offers the following incentives to adopters of cats selected for participation: A comprehensive, free medical evaluation, including all appropriate diagnostics, prior to adoption; A complimentary pre-adoption consultation with a League veterinarian; Lifetime, free...

Kitteh is Displeased

Image
Good morning, Kittens. This is a picture of the PsychoKitty, after she uncurled from her kittehball to give the Evil Eye to the loud construction noise outside which awakened her. Do not anger the PsychoKitty. Srsly. Yesterday was uneventful. I am trying to make my daily routine a more scheduled one, rather than what has recently become my habit: (1) coffee, (2) sofa, (3) Martini Time, and (4) Go to Bed Time. I was not entirely successful, but I did manage to apply for a job (!) and get out of the house for a little while ( Hello, mini mixed green salad at Adega and glass of pinot grigio (not pictured) ). I had planned to do some writing ... and, if you define "writing" to mean "staring at a blank document for 45 minutes," I was 100% Successful in that endeavor. Other activities from yesterday included helping K-Factor mow the yarn*, hot steamy buttsecks, and watching Kung Fu Panda ... again. Last night, I had this total nightmare. And, it was one of those dr...

Plotting

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Is it snowing with you? Talk to me. Talk to me. I can't remember who sent me this link, but you should check it out (especially if you have a kitteh or two): How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You I would like to add another warning sign to the list: Looks all cute, 'til you realize she was searching for recipes ! Not much else has happened in my life. My week is getting busier though. I need to go to the post office today, but the snow is a bit off-putting. Other than that, my plans for today include ... applying for a job or two, going to the grocery store, and working on the Never-Ending Cardigan of Doom (Take 2). Have a great day! *smooches* PS. Don't forget about the 10% Refund Challenge ! Visit the Facebook Event Page here .

Weekend Update: Daniel Craig Edition

Image
Good rainy Monday morning, kittens. My weekend was v. exciting. It involved all sorts of drama and intrigue. For example, on Saturday, I had to decide if I should nap on the sofa or in my bed. AND, then, I had to decide what cocktail to make ... oh, the drama! Friday evening, I went over to a neighbor's apartment for a graduation party. It was fun. I drank lots of beerz, and we played Apples to Apples ... which is a surprisingly fun game. Perhaps, the beerz contributed to this assessment. Saturday, I woke up late (yay), made coffee (yay), and did some serious blobbing around the house. Later that afternoon, I weeded in the flower beds and transplanted my marigold seedlings. Then, I invited Tomokito down for experimental cocktails (and cheese!). For the cocktail, I shook lime juice and vodka over ice, poured into a chilled martini glass, and garnished with a few slices of frozen peaches. A version of the drink is pictured above. Quite delicious. If you're a big boozehead like w...

The Quorn is Green

Actually, it's brown, but whatever ... When I got home last night, I began Day Two of Operation Cleanliness is Next to Vuboqliness . Day two is the kitchen. I *hates* my kitchen. It is gross. Even when it's clean, it still looks dirty. I basically top-cleaned everything, swept, mopped up some small spots, scrubbed the sink, and took out the recycling and compost bins. Then, I had a glass of wine. Yay wine! Today will be laundry and bedroom. Fun times. After relaxing for a bit checking email, playing Scrabulous, and chatting with friends, I made a simple tomato sauce using the ground quorn. I took a picture, but forgot to upload it. Sorry. I made the sauce a little too quorny. It was more like a very quorn chili on top of pasta. The taste was fine (did it even have a taste?). The texture was good too. The final verdict will be passed (*heh* "passed") later on today. Sometimes, with other meat-substitutes (like Boca Crumbles), I experience unpleasant side effects the fo...

Sunday Afternoon Pottery Post

Image
I went to the pottery studio this afternoon to trim my final vase and glaze my penultimate vase. The trimming went well. See: It will now need to be fired, glazed, and fired again. The other vase was not out of the kiln, so I'll need to go back at some point to glaze it as well. I also picked up my fourth vase. This: Became this: The vase is about 6 inches tall. Please ignore the messy apartment. More photos of vase und pussy are on Flickr. Clickr . oh. and I did this last night, thanks to a link provided by Earl Cootie : It's me. Only crazy(er) looking.

Cold. Rain.

And I have no plans for a fun-filled Friday night. As it looks right now, after work, I'm going to swing by the cleaners to pick up my new (to me) fabulicious pimp daddy vinage coat (eBay! $9.99!). Then, I will park myself in front of the TV, knit, surf the innartubez, and eat leftover Chinese Spicy Noodle Soup . The DVD I have is Snakes on a Plane . I've actually been saving it to watch this weekend. Is that sad, or what? Saturday, I'm going to head up to Whole Foods to talk to the Washington Animal Recsue League (WARL) people. They've recently rescued over 100 small breed puppies from a puppy mill in Virginia. I would *LOVE* to adopt one (Cairn or Yorkshire Terrier), but I don't have the time/patience/living arrangement that is conducive to being a responsible dog owner. I will drop off a little donation for the sweet puppies though. I also want to talk to them about getting another kitty. Psychokitty Isabella sometimes seems a little lonely. I think she might li...

Weekend Update: Whole Lotta Nothing Going On

Ah. The long, cold slog up the hill to my office, and here I am, back at work. *bleah* On the bright side, greeting me at my desk was a bag of YARN! Beautiful, beautiful yarn in the color butternut. Now, I can start on the promised, long-awaited Harry Potter Gryffindor scarves for two dear friends who live far, far away. And, then, I can use the leftovers to finish the Oscar Project . So, hopefully, by Christmas, two friends will have warm necks, and one cute shelter puppy will have a warm place to sleep. Yay! Of course, that all depends on my finishing the Never-Ending Afghan of Doom and the First-Ever Cable Knit Scarf for two other friends' Christmas Presents. Meanwhile, my weekend was chock full of fun and excitement, especially if one defines chock full of fun and excitement as "spending lots of time on the sofa watching TV, knitting, and surfing the innarwebez." Friday night, Tomoko and I met Mike at Halo for happy hour. It was not a happy hour. Halo has ...
