What Dreams May Come

Good Evening, Kittens! Last night (well, early this morning), I had a dream, a very disturbing (or as they sometimes write around my office " distrubing ") dream. It woke me up around 3:40 and I couldn't really fall back asleep ... After a long animated set-up, I end up in a house. And begin systematically killing the people inside (and there were A LOT of people inside). I have a gun that can change modes from machine gun to rifle to flame-thrower. I don't recognize the people. And I don't feel any remorse. All I know is that I will not be leaving the house alive. At one point, I let a group of African-American school children leave the house (through the attic, which -after they escape- I set fire to with my flame-thrower). And, then, I try to exit the house. Outside is chaos. I see cars and buses and crowds of people. It's at this point, I see the only two people I recognize in the entire dream. As I try to leave the house, Adam comes towards me w...

Critters

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Happy Friday! A critter is eating my flower garden, chomping on cosmos seedlings like there is no tomorrow. I think it might be a bunneh. Or an elephant. Not sure which. As long as it stays away from the bush basil I transplanted yesterday, I will be happy. I have plenty of cosmos seeds, but only one bush basil. I have been unmotivated this week. I think the job hunt is getting me down. Dooby dooby down. Wah wah wah waaaaaah. It would be nice to hear *something* from at least one of the 6 (or was it 7) government jobs I've applied for this past Spring. Gah. It would also be nice to apply to some jobs this week, which I seem to be unable to do ... even though I've come across several interesting ads. Last night, I dreamed I was stranded in the Philadelphia airport (with my brother!) because a hurricane had closed all the airports in DC. And I was wondering what to do because I didn't know anyone in Philly. But, then, I realized I did! Thr...

I Bite Myself

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens! Several nights ago, I had a nightmare in which I was being strangled from behind (hm, sounds slightly familiar , no?). In my dream, I turned my head to the left and bit the attacker. In my reality, I awoke with an "Ow!" Yes, in my sleep, I bit my arm near my shoulder. It hurt, and I remember thinking to myself, "That's going to leave a mark" before I fell back asleep. When I awoke the next morning, I forgot to check. A few days later in the shower, I noticed a mystery bruise on my left arm. I thought for a minute and it all came flooding back. With a bruise to prove it. *sheesh* Now, you should all scurry over to Puntabulous (if you haven't already) to read his latest Funtabulous post . See if you can spot VUBOQ! *smooches*

Drippy Crappy Rainy Blah

Good (no longer) Morning, Kittens. I am moving so slow today. This morning, I had this really upsetting dream in which I had some friends over. I had to leave the apartment for a minute, and, when I came back, one of the guests had broken several pieces of my Japanese pottery. And no one would admit to doing it. Frustrating and sad. Anyway, last night, I had a good time at Mark's. He has a gorgeous home. 3 cats. and a dog. We had cocktails and cheese and crackers. And, then, he made a pizza. We talked and drank and ate and talked and drank and around 11(ish?), he drove me home. Fun times. No real plans for the day ... or the weekend. I'll just be tidying up, packing, cleaning, and getting ready for my trip to NC. I'll also be sending out the StickSteven 2008 Year in Review email. Maybe tomorrow. Have a great day! *smooches*

Oh. And Ow.

Reading Mel's recent post about his weird dreams reminded me of what happened Saturday night ... I was sleeping on the air mattress in the living room. At one point, I started having this very disturbing dream about being attacked. I waited until my attacker seemed vulnerable, and *WHAM* I kicked him in da nutz! and *EEEE-YOWCH! !!* Not only had I kicked the attacker as hard as I could, I had also kicked my very solid wood coffee table with equal force. Pain is so not my friend. Surprisingly, I don't seem to have any bruises. In other -less painful- news, I was trying to figure out how to get all my personal files off my work computer. My CD drive isn't working. I don't have a floppy drive on my laptop. And, Office Depot only had SUPER-Expensive flash drives for sale. Then, a friend told me about xdrive . It provides 5GB of free storage space, and it's really quite quick and easy. Later tonight, I'll see how easy it is to download them from there to my laptop....

No More Nachos Right Before Bed

Image
So, two nights ago (oops, forgot to blog this yesterday), I had a very odd dream. The only part I can remember now is that my best friend from college and I were on this island and ended up in this funky little 1960s ranch-style home with, like, the best dish collection EVER. My best friend disappeared. I got distracted going through the piles and piles of fantastic dishware. Upon being reunited with my friend, I learned that she had had sex with a transvestite, "Edna," who lived in the home. Edna looked like a real-person version of this: [Image from the Comic, Single and Looking ] *shudder*

War of the Worlds: Dream Edition

I know, I know. I hate reading blog posts about people's dreams, too ... So, if you don't want to read about my dream last night, click away , click away ... I was in a non-descript town with non-descript people on a tour of a rather odd museum. It reminded me of a military museum, because the displays were recreations of various battles, made with tiny plastic army men. There was one odd display of a prison scene, in which the prisoners were represented by thumbs. Slowly, I realized they were the severed thumbs of the actual prisoners. *shudder* As I was leaving the museum, these shiny white structures, most were rectangular cubes, but some were cylinders, began appearing on the streets. As crowds of people gathered around the structures, the tour bus driver and I, sensing something very bad was about to happen, boarded the bus and backed slowly out of the city. The driver dropped me outside of my building and as I walked down the street, columns of Storm Trooper-like a...

Minor Disappointments on the Information Superhighway of Life

I bought a 4" Grilled Veggie Sub from Jerry's today for lunch. About halfway through, it began to taste like crab. Even when I ate meat, I never liked crab. Crab is icky. My sandwich was ruined. I threw it out. And ate my fries. Mmm. Fries. I am not having happy tummy now. Also, one of my co-workers came in sick today. If I get her cold, I am going to be even not happier. I will take lots of vitamin C tonight in hopes of warding off her germiness. Finally, last night, I dreamed (dreamt?) that I was taking not one, but TWO, pottery classes, one on Monday and the other on Thursday. I had forgotten I had also registered for the Thursday class and decided to start attending it as well. I was very excited about all that extra playtime with the clay. Of course, when I woke up, I realized I was not taking 2 pottery classes. *sigh*

Fairy Circles

Image
I passed this on my way to the metro station this morning. The fairies must have been out dancing under the full moon, because I didn't notice it on my way to Y's yesterday. It reminded me of my childhood and the stories we create ... Read about Fairy Rings on wikipedia. A mushroom walked into a bar. "Get out of here," said the bartender. "We don't serve your kind." "Aw. C'mon," said the mushroom. "I'm a fungi." Get it? Get it? UPDATE : I had this totally weird dream last night that I wanted to blog about, but forgot. And, now, I don't want to do a separate entry. So, here are parts of the dream that I remember: Part 1: Nida, her Husband, Sarah (who I've met maybe 3 times through DUN), one of my friends from high school (Cherri) and I are helping Mike kayak down a river. We are all wearing rollerblades in the water , skating to various points in the river to guide Mike. Part 2: I am making out with the Cheating Ch...

I Hear Dead People

Sometimes, in bed, with the fans running, muffling the outside noises, in the darkness of my room, as I teeter on the edge between sleep and wake, I hear conversations. Just snippets really. Voices in the dark. And, unlike when I feel there is someone in the room with me, it isn't creepy and disturbing. In fact, it's almost comforting. The voices are soothing, like late-night lovers talking to each other in drippy sleep-filled murmurs. Someone, I don't remember who, once said, "Vuboq, the only person interested in your dreams is you." Ever since then, I've tried to keep my dreamstories to a minimum ... except when they are frequent and recurring. Because that usually means something is pricking at my subconscious, and typing it out helps me sort things through. For the past few days, my dreams have dealt with something I've been thinking about quite a lot recently: coming out to my parents. I should have done it a long time ago. It's something I...

Nightmares

Last night, I had trouble sleeping. Among the tossing and the turning and the odd dreams about being in contestant's row on The Price Is Right (and why did I bid $2.89 on the jar of JIF peanut butter?), I had some disturbing dreams. First, I dreamed that my cat, Sherlock, who died in 1996ish (at the ripe old age of 14), was walking across my bed. GHOST CAT! Creepy. Then came the dreaded "there is someone else in the room" dream. Augh. I totally hate that dream. Needless to say, it freaked me out, and I had a hard time falling back asleep. It's times like this that I really hate sleeping alone. The odd thing is that I haven't had creepy dreams like that in quite some time. In fact, it was almost exactly one year ago today that they started happening on a frequent, recurring basis. Yes, today is the one year anniversary of my discovery of the Cheating Cheater's cheating . I'm going to try not to dwell on it too much this week, but forgive me in a...

A Case of the "If Onlys"

Yesterday, as I was about to leave for the day, I came across a job posting on the Environmental Working Group's website for a staff blogger . And, I thought, "Wow. This job would be perfect for me, if only ..." If only ... I had not semi-abandoned my environmental blog, EnviroWonk . If only ... I met more of the experience requirements [Drupal? Digg? Photoshop?]. If only ... I could afford to live on (what I expect is a rather low) environmental non-profit staff blogger's salary. If only ... If only ... I could refrain from talking myself out of something before I even try. In other news, I had a dream, a dream about you, kittens. It's gonna come true, kittens. I was in Las Vegas with friends. I was playing one of those slot machines which had a huge combined jackpot. After playing a few rounds, I put in more money and watched the images slowly align. Click. Click. Click. Stop. ALARM BELLS! SIRENS! I had won the jackpot. $7,063,472.35 [Weird that I remember the ...

Dream Lover

On Friday night, I had a weird dream. I dreamed about the Cheating Cheater who Cheated. He was teaching at a local college, and I met him one day after work. I had not seen him since we broke up. He was limping, because he had been wounded in Iraq. We went out to a bar, a straight bar and one in which he was a regular. And this is the weird part ... as we were sitting there on the bar stools, enjoying our drinks and chatting, he put his arm around me. Back when we were dating, one of the little things about John that irked me was that he was not one for public displays of affection ... even in the "safe" context of a gay area of town or a gay bar, he was never demonstrative. I guess I missed that.

Chances

In high school, I had a crush on the one of the bad boys , the leather jacket wearing, smoking in the boys' room, skipping class bad boy. Billy was rarely in school, but, when he was, everyone knew it. You couldn't miss the 12-inch mohawk coming down the hall. He was tall, dark-haired, with stunning eyes which were usually clouded over in some sort of narcotic haze. I admired him from afar. Same school, two different worlds. Then, those worlds collided. The summer before our Senior year, Billy found God and cleaned up his life. The hot mohawk-sporting bad boy was gone. In his place, stood a typical Dockers-wearing Young Republican with a dream to become a minister. *shudder* He was still attractive in a clean-cut way, but the crush was gone. We became more than acquaintances, but not quite friends. Last night, I dreamed about him. As I sat at my desk this morning, reading the WaPo articles about the events at VA Tech, I began to wonder if that's what triggered my ...

My Brain is Fuzzy

Normally, at some point during the night, I wake up, take a drink of water, and fall back asleep. Last night, I was having very intense dreams, which I don't really remember. I popped awake, reached for my water, and ... my alarm went off. How could it already be 6:21? How? And, no, my alarm is not set for 6:21. It's set for 6:20. But, my clock must be wrong, because the NPR guy is always saying "It's 6:21" when the alarm goes off. I also thought of a funny story to blog about, but couldn't remember it ... until this very moment . Of course, now I'm trying to remember what inspired it. Cool! I just remembered that too: COMPOST. My co-op has a compost bin, and I was thinking that I need to buy a little sealed container to put all my compostable rubbish in, because last week I threw out some rotten and/or sprouting potatoes, but did not put them in the compost bin, because I thought they would grow, rather than decompose. No, that's not the funny story. ...

Pink Cake and Ghandi

Image
At the happy hour last night, I mentioned to a few of my neighbors that I didn't sleep well that night because of the creepy "someone-is-in-my-room" dreams. Moving Soon Upstairs Neighbor said that he, too, had been having very vivid dreams recently. We wondered if it had something to do with the change of the seasons? Psychedelic Pollen, Kittens! Last night, I had, yet another, weirdly vivid dream. I meant to remember the whole thing; however, when I woke up this morning, I promptly forgot all of it, except for one scene: Mahatma Ghandi stepping into a pink cake and continuing to walk, dragging pink cakey chunks on his sandaled feet, to the banks of the Ganges. Anyone care to put forward an interpretation of that?

Morning Has Broken

Image
I kept dreaming that someone else was in my room last night. Very disconcerting, and not conducive to restful sleep. I wonder if I should blame the chocolate? I ate a little over half a bar of Green & Black's Organic Dark Chocolate with Crystallized Ginger Pieces (on sale now at Whole Foods - 2 for $5). Total YUM. But, maybe it was the additional caffeine that lead to the disturbing dreams? Hmmm... Also, I determined that yesterday's cold-like symptoms - sore throat, scratchiness, etc - and additional woozy light-headedness had two causes. 1) Pollen (stupid trees) and 2) my office was painted while I was on vacation. In other news, I'm going to a happy hour tonight for my upstairs neighbor. He is moving to California on Saturday. *sigh* I hope someone nice [and not too clompy, since he lives above me] buys his place!

Lunchtime in Vutopia

Today's lunch: vegan tunafish* sandwich on whole wheat with spring greens and CHEETOS. Mmm. On my way back from Whole Foods, where I purchased: vegan tunafish* salad spring greens roma tomatoes mushrooms tzitziki (tsitsiki?) whole wheat bread spiraly pasta and paper towels [all for a bargain $19.10], I remembered this weird dream I had last night: I had a job interview, so I ran into the hair salon 30 minutes before the interview begging Leah, the Colornatrix, to cut my hair. She did. And, fortunately, the office where I was to interview was right next door . Isn't it neat how dreams do that? I walked into the interview and the first thing the Office Assistant tells me is that the man interviewing me is Japanese and doesn't speak good English, so they communicate in ... wait for it ... fluent Latin. da-what? I'm all, like, uh, OK. I had Latin in high school for two years, but it's a little rusty. And, then, the interviewer came out and spoke to me in perfect-...
