I Have a Complex

(I also have a tapeworm, named Carl ... but's that a story for another post) Good morning, Kittens. As you may know, I am not really dating anyone seriously right now (b/c, y'know, a certain someone is in Las Vegas and the other guys I have been seeing have not been panning out). BUT, I do maintain a couple of profiles on a couple of "dating" sites. I realize that the majority of men do not use these sites to date. I do. I have met several fun friends and gone on some cool dates with guys off these sites. Recently on one of them, I have received a flurry of emails (OK, 3 emails, spread over about a week) from a man in Baltimore. Now, (1) Baltimore is too far for me, and (2), while this guy said in his profile he is 40, he must've had a hard, hard life (and not moisturized regularly). Anyway, he seemed nice enough, but I am not at all attracted to him or interested in meeting him. I could only see the emails continuing, so, after the third email, I sent him the...

Weekend Update: Pride Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. What an odd experience this Pride was. I mean, I was mostly sober for the whole thing. Weird. But, it was still fun. Saturday, after an intense (and frustrating) morning of yard work, I spent the afternoon planning my outfit for the parade. It's so important to look cute(r) for these kind of things. Balloons and furry Uggs? Not my look. I opted for skinny jeans from UniQlo and an awesome Secretworm T-shirt (You, too, can be Just as Cool as VUBOQ by clicking here ). Before the parade, Jerry had a small gathering at his home to show off his newly remodeled kitchen. Fun times! Free booze! Hurrah! I left with Mike, Brian, Gerardo, and Kerry (a woman we met at the party who was v. cool) to stake out a fun spot along the parade route. We ended up at JRs "Beer Garden". And, then, it got really crowded and unpleasant, so Mike and I walked down the street a bit to a less populated part of the route. Much. Nicer. The parade was awesome ... but...

The Pride Parade in a Few Pictures

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Here are a few photos from the parade. No one should be allowed to look this cute. New friends. Men dancing in their underwear. What more does one need? The rest of the pix are here . And I'm off to the street festival this afternoon. *smooches*

A Journey Back in Time

I'm keeping busy at work by going through a bunch of old disks on my desk. The one I'm looking at now contains about 45 pages of old journal entries I salvaged from the caches of various search engines after diary-x crashed. Here's a blast from the past ... Tuesday, May 10, 2005 Am I Gay Quiz Recently, when I check my stats, I have noticed that thousands of one or two people per day visited my journal searching for an "Am I Gay Quiz." Although I frequently use the words am , I , gay , and quiz , there is no such quiz in my journal ... until today! Yes, the people person has spoken! And, since I am a Gay Man of the People Person, I proudly present to you ... EnviroBoi's Am I Gay Quiz [Unfortunately, ladies, this is a Men Only Quiz. I don't have the knowledge base to determine if you are lesbians or not. I suppose you could just replace the appropriate words in this quiz and figure something out.] Instructions Please answer the following questions honestl...

Life Stages

Image
Apparently, this whole gay thing is just a stage I'm going through: [If you can't read it, it says "You and your wife willbe happy in your life together."] Last night, I headed over to Y's. We ate Chinese take-out. Then, watched Layer Cake . If you haven't seen that movie, you should. Not only does it have the Super Hot Daniel Craig in it, but it also is a fun, complicated, convoluted film. PLUS, it's fun to spot the "Harry Potter" character actors (I saw two. There could've been more). This morning, we had a nice long lie-in. Then, I got ready and metro'ed to work. I bought a Greek Salad at Panera on the walk to the office. Mmm. Greek Salad. This weekend, I'll be attending Tomokito's pre-Birthday Party on Saturday. On Sunday, I am hoping to get tickets to the free production of Hamlet at the Carter-Barron Amphitheater. No plans for tonight other than knitting and watching DVDs. I do have several job applications I need to comple...

Like, Dude, Busy.

Good morning, kittens. It's been a bit busy at work this morning. I forgot my annual performance evaluation and updated resume were due today, so I had to crank those out*. Bleah. I have a buttload of email to answer today too. *ugh* Lessee ... Meat-Free Monday was a success (yay!). Photo will be uploaded and posted tonight. Stay tuned. And, here's a little reminder that small-minded bigots are still alive and well (unfortunately). It seems like we touched a nerve: [from The Daily Star (second item)] Homosexuals at greater risk Thanks, The Daily Star, for publishing my letter of Feb. 1 opposing homosexual behavior. Some opposed publishing my letter. They don't realize most Americans, including the local population, are against homosexuality. But perhaps only my detractors' letters should be published. Glad they aren't the editors. They want me to listen. And I do. But when I speak, many head for the door, afraid they will hear a discordant tone. Those left tell me ...

Profile Photography 101

Image
You know what VUBOQ is tired of seeing? Can you guess? Give up? All right, I'll tell you: Your friggin' camera and/or your sorry, cheap ass cell phone. Go to almost any luv connection website, like gay.com, match.com, etc. etc. etc., and I gua-ran-tee you will see forked up bathroom photos like this: [Photo taken expressly for the purpose of this post.] [VUBOQ should've folded his towels more neatly before taking this.] You will not see my camera in any photos ... because I know the secret . And I am willing to share. At no cost to you. Are you ready? Do you think you can handle it? TURN YOUR FORKIN' CAMERA AROUND!!!! *sheesh* Every camera has those little viewscreens. Line yourself up in the screen by using its reflection in the mirror. And, you'll get this: [Much better, no?] [Oh. Em. Gee. I am *so* CUTE!] And, while I'm ranting ... Do you only have ONE mirror in your house? Branch out. Use your bedroom mirror! Or the one in the hall! Or the one in the liv...

Let a Thousand Posts Contend

This is it, kittens! P1K! One thousand posts! *woot* * fireworks * * confetti * * marching bands * * snarky comments about clos eted Republicans * Last night, Isa and I discussed a certain Idaho Senator's ... um ... situation . And by "situation" I mean "penchant for cruising various public restrooms for sexual thrills." I floated a theory, which is still hanging around in my brain ... Why is it we've been hearing more about GOP gay shenanigans than Democratic gloryhole frolicking? Besides Barney Frank in the 80s and Jim McGreevey a few years ago, what other Democratic gay scandals have there been in recent memory? Are Democrats smarter than Republicans? More discreet? Probably ... but that's not my theory. My theory is this: Because Dems tend to skew more socially liberal than Republicans, they are also more comfortable with issues of sexuality, including their own. Out and proud Democrats don't run for public office. Or they run as out and pr...

A Prescriptivist Approach to Life

This is what happens when someone dates a linguist. After ranting about the travesty of spelling that some environmental groups are inflicting on the children of the world (Won't someone think of the children ?), Y declared that I am a prescriptivist . And I agree. I do believe in the rules of language and spelling. I'm not entirely averse to those rules changing and modifying to adapt to an evolving culture, but come on environmental groups. DaVersity ? DAversity? Are you trying to KILL me? My impending death by misspelling travesty aside, I wonder if my prescriptivist nature transcends language and influences my daily life. The simple answer would be "yes." The more complex answer would be "um. I'll have to get back to you on this later." And that's what I'm going to do. The absolutely silly thing about this post is that I got to thinking about this after reading a post on Joe.My.God . I don't usually read his blog, being that i...

Weird Times, Kittens

Image
First, thanks for all the comments yesterday. They made me laugh this morning. And laughs have not been coming frequently enough for me these past few weeks. It's been a weird summer so far - filled not only with some absolutely amazing times, but also with some times of frustration and angst and sadness and the feeling of not really knowing what to do to make it better. *bleah* Now, on with the show ... Here is a photo I took yesterday evening as I was settling down for a comfortable night of movie-watching. The glowing drink is my lemon ginger vodka cocktail (lgv, blob of honey, splash of seltzer, lime garnish). You can also see that I haven't killed my (indoor) chili pepper plant yet. *woot* The pottery calla lily oil lamp is from the town in NC where my parents live. I thought it was cute so I bought it. Of course, Mom, bless her, thinking I was attracted to the green glaze, began buying other pieces of pottery with that glaze. I explained I only liked the green glaze on t...

Afternoon Query

Y posed an interesting question the other day, which I will now put forward here in an effort to get all of you to leave lots and lots and lots of comments ! So ... You have a friend in his mid-thirties/early forties who recently came out. He's interested in seeing some gay films, but is completely unfamiliar with the genre. What are the first two films you would recommend he watch? I will tell you my two choices in the comment section. [And while you're there, why don't you leave your own comment?] In other news, my ginger/lemon infused vodka should be ready today! *woot* Does anyone have suggestions for an appropriate mixer? I was thinking soda water. Or maybe just on the rocks with a dollop of honey?

I Was Planning on Being Anti-Social This Weekend

Yet, the gauntlet has been thrown . Right earring (only) hunting. What fun. Anyone care to join in the festivities?

Being Gay. It's Da Bomb

In light of this recent news , VUBOQ submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Air Force and received the document below. You all may thank me later for helping expose this horrible, horrible scandal.

I *Heart* Teh Gayz

Following a link from Faggoty-Ass Faggot , who got it from the Oprah Winfrey Show, I took Harvard's Sexuality I mplicit Association Test . My results: Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for Gay People compared to Straight People. Surprised? I know I was! Meanwhile, check this out: Sexiest Celebrity Vegetarian . Anyone notice the GLARING OMISSION?? Here's a hint: Where's VUBOQ?
