Weekend Update: Inside Edition

Good morning, Kittens.
Happy Monday.  It's the first time in nearly a month that I've had to work on a Monday.  So. Unfair.  At least, unlike some of my co-workers, I have working internets.  Yay!
So, Friday, our boss let us leave at 4PM.  I stopped by the wine shop and the Whole Foods on the way home, and that was the last I saw of the Great Out of Doors until this morning.  Friday night, I watched 3:10 to Yuma and started knitting a sock.
Saturday, I knat.  And Tomokito and SCGB came down for drinks.  Then, I knat more.  And, I may have napped.  I also cooked brussels sprouts.
This is what I knat.  It's going to be a sock.  Eventually.
Sunday, there was the potential for a coffee date, but he postponed (We are currently rescheduled for Thursday).  So, I watched DVDs.  And knat.  And ironed a lot of shirts.
I may have napped as well.
Mostly, this was my recover from the awful cold weekend.  And I do feel a lot better.  Hurrah. Still a bit snotty/phlegmy/mucous-filled.  But not too bad.
Hope you had a more eventful weekend than I!
Have a great day!

Only in DC?

For lunch today, one of my co-workers and I decided to go to Matchbox on Barracks Row. The table across from ours was a rather large party of about 7 or 8. It looked like a bunch of work people out for a business lunch. Possibly some sort of government contractor gathering. Mostly upper middle-aged (like 45-50?).

I was chatting with my co-worker, but since their table was in my line of sight, I couldn't help but be distracted by what was going on. Two slightly younger blonde women at the end of the table seemed to be in charge and ordered appetizers for the group as they waited for a few people to straggle in.

Before the entrees arrived, the women stood up and, after explaining that they had meant to do this earlier ... the paperwork took a long time ... the CRA (Continuing Resolution Act, which probably means nothing to people outside the Beltway), etc. etc. etc., they passed out gift bags to each person. "The pink ones are for the women, the blue ones are for the men," one of the blonde women said.

The group opened up their gift bags. And what was inside?

Did this group of contractors squeal and clap their hands? Did they do little happy dances of joy? Did they even say an audible (to a table away) thank you?

They looked at the boxes. Looked slightly perplexed. Put the MOTHER-FUCKING iPADS back in the gift bags. And started talking about other things.

Seriously, give me an iPad and I'm going to open the friggin' box and look for a forkin' electrical outlet. Let's fire this bitch up and see what she can do.

One gentleman with a "US Navy" lanyard, pulled out his Blackberry and I really wanted to walk over to him and say, "You'd better be tweeting 'My company just gave me a MOTHER-FUCKING iPAD' and not checking your email!"

Somehow, I doubt he was tweeting.

Oh, Hai. I Can Haz Werkz

Good morning, Kittens.
I am at work.  Yes, I pulled myself out of my sickbed and managed to crawl to the office.  Where I discovered most of the people in my wing don't have internet.  And won't have it for at least a week.
Luckily (and weirdly), one co-worker and I do have working internet.  The rest of my office doesn't.  Oh, well.
Lessee.  Yesterday, I lounged on the sofa and napped.  And watched DVDs. After much consideration, I decided not to re-cast on the sweater I frogged the other day.  Instead, I cast on a sock using this cute brown tweedy yarn.  I am going to knit the entire sock as a 2x2 rib.  Once I get a little more knat, I will take a picture for you.
I don't have many exciting weekend plans.  Tonight, after stopping by Whole Foods to replenish my juice and veggie supply, I am going to knit and watch 3:10 to Yuma (the remake, not the original).  Saturday, I may try to make it to the gym (I haven't been in 2 weeks!).  And, on Sunday morning, I may have a coffee date (because I cancelled our previous drinks date b/c I was sick and it was snowy).
And, that's about it.
Happy Friday!

Sick (with Special Appearance by Stella)

Good Afternoon, Kittens.

On my way home from Philly on Monday, I felt the tell-tell tickle of a cold coming on. Tuesday, when I woke up, it was worse, but not so bad I couldn't go to work. so I did.

Then, I came home. Late. Because the Red Line was a ginormous clusterfuck. I had to rush to get to my co-op's Annual Shareholder's Meeting. Fortunately, I was not elected to the Board. yay! Of course, this means that I will most assuredly have to be on the Board next year.

I went to bed early. When I got up, I thought I heard snow/sleet. I looked out the window, and I was correct. A couple of inches of slush and stuff covered the ground. Also, I felt like poop. After having some ginger lemon tea, I decided I couldn't make it to work. So I called out and went back to bed.

I woke up at 11:30. Since then I've been feeding my fever to starve my cold. Or whatever. I've been eating a lot. I tried to do laundry, but it seems *BOTH* washers in our laundry room are borked. UGH. I also frogged a sweater (because I did something weird and couldn't figure out how to fix it). I will start it again at some point. I'm thinking about casting on another pair of socks.

For now, though, I'm watching Doctor Zhivago and contemplating taking a nap.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Weekend Update: All Sorts of Mischief Edition

Good morning, Kittens!
And Happy Tuesday.  I am back at the work after a SuperFun 3-Day Weekend Extravaganza!  YAY!
Friday, after work, I met SuperCute Former Blogger, Kris, one of his friends, and UberSuperCute Guy (who needs a new nickname because typing so many SuperCutes is becoming tiresome.  What about "Pond-Scum Sucking Dirtbag?"  HAHA!  I kid.  I tease.  I jest. He is still UberSuperCute) at Nellie's for Happy Hour.  SCGB was there with some of his grad school friends.  We had a good time.  I drank too much.  And, so did Kris.  *hehe*  After pouring Kris into a cab, I headed back to Silver Spring and my soft warm bed.
Saturday morning.  Very.  Hung. Over.  But, I had a lot to do.  Grocery shopping.  Ironing.  Packing. And getting ready for SCGB's Graduation Party.  At the Giant, I bought the fixins for a "healthy" trail mix.  See? It may have some junk foods in it, but it'll be better than eating a bag of cheetos every day when the 4PM munchies strike.
SCGB's party was wicked fun. Good turn out. Lots of beer.  Amusing Drunk Girl. Yummy architecturally shaped sugar cookies.  I left the party around 11 or so, because I had a 10AM bus to catch on Sunday morning.
Which I did.  I made a quick trip up to the City of Brotherly Love to visit the SuperFantastic Blogger, Bossy, and her family.  It was an awesome good time.  Lots of booze.  Lots of food.  Lots of TV.  Which, come to think of it, is how I usually spend my weekends at home.  This time, I was in another city with different (but just as fun) people!  After watching Mommie Dearest and eating a fabulous dinner of fettuccine with cream sauce and mushrooms, we watched *almost* the entire season of The Big C.  which was amazing.  No one tell me how the season ends though.  I have to figure out how I can catch the last two episodes.
The next day, we had plans to hang out with Lora, but -unfortunately- her son was sick.  Wah.  Instead, Bossy and I headed to the Mall.  Yep.  Shopping.  Good times.  I found a cute pair of black Ben Sherman slim cut dress pants.  But, here's a tip:  Never try on slim cut pants after two days of non-stop boozing and eating.  The pants were not purchased.
Then, after a quick glass of wine at the bar in the 30th St. Station, I hopped on the MegaBus, scoring the much-coveted upper deck front seat (again!) and headed home.  AND, there was eye candy!
I got home around 8:30PM.  Had a quick bite to eat.  Tomokito came down for a drink.  I rushed around trying to get ready for today, and, then, I hit the hay.  Of course, soon as I was about to fall asleep, my phone rang.  It's a New Guy I've been chatting with for a couple of weeks.  We are (finally) going to have a quick meet-and-greet date on Wednesday after work. Yay.
And, that, my dear kittens, was my weekend.  I am exhausted (and I feel like I might be coming down with a cold.  ugh).
Have a great day!

Anticipation of Fun

Good morning, Kittens.
And Happy Friday.  One of us had a Very Difficult time getting out of bed this morning.  *ugh*
Not much new and exciting has happened the past few days.  On Wednesday, I did laundry.  Oooh.  Fun.  And, then, SCGB came down for a couple of drinks.  Someone may have over-bourboned it, because Thursday morning was a bit fuzzy.
Thursday, I had a kind of important meeting in which I presented a couple of ideas for feedback.  I am slowly coming to realize that the people I work for have difficulty with the comprehension of questions.  It is annoying, and I feel like I am always thinking "that's not what I asked" when they attempt an answer.  I left work a little early for a very important meeting ... with the Colornatrix.  Here is an after shot (taken this morning).  Once re-blonded, I met Mike (Who Makes Cakes) for dinner at Guapos.  Mmmm.  Tex-Mex.  Tasty.
Today, after work, I am meeting some friends for happy hour at Nellie's.  UberSuperCute Guy may be there.  As will the SuperCute Former Blogger, Kris.  And maybe Mike (Who Makes Cakes), Tomokito, and SCGB.  Lots of maybes.  But it will still be fun no matter who shows up!
Saturday, I will go to the gym and, then, in the evening, I will attend SCGB's Graduation Party.  yay!  And, early on Sunday morning, I depart on a Very Special Road Trip.  Stay tuned to twitter and facebook for all the exciting updates.
Have a wonderful day and a funtabulous weekend.

Gin or Gym (or Both!)?

Good Morning, Kittens.
Last night, after much deliberation and waffling and procrastination, I went to the gym.  What had happened was that after work, I realized I had no food.  So, on the way home, I stopped by the Whole Foods to do some grocery shopping.  Which meant that I got home later than usual.  Which meant that I couldn't eat a quick, light dinner and properly digest before heading to the gym at 7:30.  Which meant that instead of having a quick, light dinner, I had a very nice martini.  While drinking the martini, I made a not so quick, slightly heavier dinner - veggie tacos.  Yum!
Once I had eaten those, I floundered around thinking of what I should do next.  I watched a DVD.  Around 8:15, I thought, "Hm.  Maybe I should go to the gym, because I'm not going to have another chance until the weekend."  So, I rushed around, put on my gym clothes, caught an 8:25 bus, and was at the gym by 8:30.
I ran for about 3.25 miles in about 40 minutes (I walked the first and last 5 minutes).  Then, I hopped off the treadmill, gathered my belongings, and hopped on a bus back home.
And, I went to bed.  Good times.
Have a great day!

Weekend Update: Long Weekend Edition

Good afternoon, kittens.
After a morning filled with 2-hour weather delay for work, and a huge delay on the Red Line, AND internet not working at the office, I am finally able to fill you in on my Weekend of Fun and Excitement and Boozy Good Times.  (If one defines "fun and excitement" to mean "shredding about 3 years worth of old bills").
So, Friday evening, I met UberSuperCute Guy (who I met the Friday before last at a happy hour) at the National Portrait Gallery.  He was a little late because of work, but we did get to see the Hide/Seek exhibit ... which was quite interesting.  Then, we had dinner at Austin Grill.  Yum. Then, I went home.  He's a nice guy (and have a mentioned ubersupercute?), but I don't see it going anywhere.  Whatever.
Saturday, I did cleaning and shredding.  And more cleaning.  And more shredding.  And perhaps some drinking.  I also watched "The Darjeeling Limited."  It was OK.  Adrian Brody is a hottie.
Sunday, I went to the gym.  It was kind of crowded.   I ran a little over four miles in a little over 40 minutes.  I am slowly coming to realize that Treadmill Etiquette is not the same as Urinal Etiquette ... because there were about 5 empty treadmills on my left and this guy took the one open treadmill open on my right.  Seriously.  He was all up in my personal space.  OK. Not really, but still ...
After I got home, I blobbed around the house.  And, then, I went to Brian's house (Brian is a friend of Mike (Who Makes Cakes)) for a Golden Globes Viewing Party.  It was lots of fun.  I may have had too much to drink.  Mike made veggie chili and cornbread.  Yum.  I think I got home a little after midnight.
Monday morning.  Very.  Hung.Over.  BUT, I rallied in time to go out for margaritas with SCGB and Tomokito.  Well, SCGB joined us later.  Tomokito pointed out that we are getting older.  We only had 2 half pitchers of margs.  Back in the day, with three people, we would have had at least 4 pitchers.  *sigh*  After we ate (and drank), we went back to SCGB's apartment.  He made Old Fashioneds.  It was an afternoon of tipsyness.  I spent the rest of the evening on the sofa, being blobby.
All in all, a pretty good weekend.
Have a great rest of your day!

It's My VegDay

Good Morning, Kittens.

Eleven years ago today, I became a(n ovo-lacto) vegetarian. I had recently finished my first semester in graduate school in an international environmental policy program. During the semester, one of the books we read was Peter Singer's Animal Liberation. Although I understood the animal cruelty argument, what truly resonated with me was how environmentally damaging the raising of animals for food is.

The more I thought about it, the more I came to realize that, if I wanted a career in an environmental field, I would need to make some serious changes to my life and habits. How could I try to convince other people to work to improve the environment, if I couldn't make those changes myself?

So, I resolved that I would become a vegetarian ... right after my Millennial Trip to Beijing (aka Land of Delicious Meats). While in Beijing, I gorged on many, many yummy meaty foods - duck, lamb, pig. Nom Nom Nom. On the flight back to the United States, I requested all vegetarian meals ... and I haven't eaten meat since (well, ok. I have had a shrimp or two. And if meat is hidden in a food I eat and I don't know it (i.e. used in broth), I give myself a pass. These things happen).

So. 11 years. Yay me.

As I was thinking about this, I wondered how much meat *haven't* I eaten. After doing some (very) cursory internet research. It looks like Americans eat about 11 ounces of meat per day. That seems like a lot. And I don't really eat breakfast. Maybe I would eat about 8 ounces of meat per day?

That's 2920 ounces of meat per year.
Thus, in eleven years I haven't eaten 32120 ounces of meat.
Which is approximately 2008 pounds of meat.
Which is just over a ton.

And what weighs a ton?

2 steer.

And a steer produces about 715 lbs of meat.

So, really, I haven't eaten 3 cows.

Isn't that sweet?

Have a great day! My weekend update will be posted tomorrow.

Boys Are Stupid. Let's Throw Rocks at Them.

Good Morning, Kittens.
I am having randomly disconnecting internet issues at work today.   I love working on an email and KA-POW, Outlook goes down (and not in the fun way).
Yesterday, I went to the gym.  Yay!  I ran for about 45 minutes (well, walking the first and last 5 minutes).  Almost 4 miles.  Not too shabby.  I need to go on Saturday or Sunday, as well.  And, that's about all the excitement from yesterday.
As for my weekend plans, they are still in flux.  You may remember that last Friday I met an UberSuperCute Boy at happy hour (who then joined me -and a group of friends- for dinner/drinks the next night as well).  Earlier this week, I sent him a text to see if he would be interested in doing dinner this weekend.  He texted back and said he would, and he would call Wednesday night to make plans.
He didn't call.
When I woke up Thursday morning, I had a text.  He had to work late (like until after 11) and didn't want to risk calling/waking me up.  Very thoughtful.  He suggested we either go out Friday night or watch the Golden Globes on Sunday.
I texted back and said that Friday night was preferable.  I never heard back.  So, last night, around 10, I called him to see what was up.  Voicemail.  Left message.
He texted me this morning to apologize, saying work has been crazy (understandable given what's happened this week and his profession) and asking if I'd still be up for drinks or something later.
I texted back to tell him I am going to the National Portrait Gallery (to see this exhibit) and he is welcome to meet me there.  We'll see what happens.
As for the rest of the weekend, I may be seeing Black Swan with Peter and one of his friends on Saturday.  Sunday, Mike (Who Makes Cakes) might be having a Golden Globes Watching Party.  And, Monday, I am off and cleaning and sorting and organizing (and maybe shopping).
Have a great day and a wonderful weekend!

12 of 12: It's Been a Long Time Edition

Good Evening, Kittens.
Look! It's my 12 of 12 for January ...

Some of us have to get up at 5:30 AM ... even if the Evil Snow Shovelers are shoveling snow at 1:30AM and it wakes us up and keeps us up for an hour.

12of12Jan2011 001

Even though we get up at 5:30 AM ... sometimes we don't make it to the metro station until Much Later (*cough* 7:45 *cough*) ... but then we get on a train and it whizzes (*heh*) through the snowscape.

12of12Jan2011 004

Eventually (meaning "forEVER"), I arrive at work and see ... snow-covered bicycles.

12of12Jan2011 006

Check email. Eat breakfast. Die one thousand deaths before 9AM.

I Don't Care If Monday's Blue

Good Morning, Kittens!
Could you guess what I did yesterday? (Sorry, Earl Cootie, I'm not getting a locker near yours.  So sad.)  I joined the gym, the Washington Sports Club in Silver Spring!  As part of 2011: Year of Health, I am working on getting fit and losing all these extra pounds*.  One of my goals is to run the Army 10-Miler in October, so I need to start getting on the treadmill ... I hate running outside when it is cold.  After signing up on line (only $1.11 + $29 processing fee, and the rest of January is free), I metro'ed over to Target to use the two gift cards I found whilst cleaning on Saturday.
I bought some work out clothes.  And Eucerin lotion.  Winter dry skin is full of teh suck.  I actually have little scabs all over my legs from dry skin.  Ughz.  Several people have recommended the Eucerin.  Let's hope it works.
On the way home from Target, I stopped by the WSC to get my little swipey card thing.  And, then, I treated myself to a Healthy Lunch at Adega (grilled tofu salad and a glass of the house Cabernet.  Wine is healthy, right?).  After lunch, I did a little power spending at the Whole Foods.  Mmmm.  Healthy!  Organic!
Once home, I ironed enough shirts for the next week or so.  And, then, I sorted papers - file, shred, tax, toss.  Fun times.  Now, I just need to borrow Tomokito's shredder at some point.
I made a delicious dinner of rainbow chard, tofu, and cashews over rice with red quinoa.  Later, SCGB, K-Factor, and Tomokito came down for cocktails (Meyer Lemon-infused Vodka with Cranberry Soda).
A busy, fun day off, fer sure.
Have a great day today!  Snow is supposed to be on the way.  *w00t*
*I'm actually kidding about losing weight.  But it would be nice to maintain my current weight and maybe tone up a little bit.

Weekend Update: Better Late Than Never Edition

Good Evening, Kittens.

I have had a busy, busy day (the photo to the right should give you a partial hint), but I'm saving all that news for tomorrow's post. ooh. anticipation. I am such a tease.

My weekend has been fabulous. Friday, after work, I met SCGB at the U St. Alero for pre-happy hour margaritas. Then, we walked down to Nellie's to meet CJ and AQ for super-cheap drinks and good times. CJ brought his new co-worker (and partner). And, AQ invited another friend ... who I happened to find UberSuperCute and we hit it off quite well. Tomokito also joined us. We had lots and lots of vodka. I may have been a little tipsy.

Saturday? Very. Hung. Over. BUT, I rallied just in time to have a tomato soup and grilled cheese party with K-Factor and SCGB around 1:30. I made the soup. It was (if I do say so myself) delicious. Tomato soup from scratch is super easy. So you should never use canned. I used a slightly modified (of course) version of Mark Bittman's recipe in How to Cook Everything Vegetarian. The grilled cheese were gourmet: manchego cheese and apples. Nomz! Everything was so tasty!

Later that night, SCGB and I met Steveandbobby for drinks at Nellie's (again). And, it just so happens that I invited the UberSuperCute Guy from Friday night and he came too. Yay! Happy. After a round (or two) of drinks, we walked to U St. Alero for dinner. Mike (Who Makes Cakes) and a group of his friends joined us there. Amazingly, our party of 8 (or 9?) got seated immediately. Crazy good luck! I think they might have had a reservation cancel or something.

After dinner, SCGB went to JRs, Steveandbobby went home, and the rest of us went back to Nellie's. It was SuperCrowded, so after one drink, UberSuperCute Guy and I left. He walked me to the metro station and gave me a hug and a quick kiss good night. *giggle*

Sunday, I did lots of cleaning and stuff. I undecorated. I rearranged the living room. This is now the view from the sofa:

It is amazing how much cat hair and how many cat toys one can find when they rearrange the furniture.

I also sorted through my sweaters and have donated about a dozen to local charity. Now, I have room in my sweater drawers for my Cute New Sweaters (some of which have yet to be boughten).

For dinner, SCGB invited me up for delicious potato leek soup. After dinner, I chilled and watched DVDs, preparing myself for the adventure that would be my Monday.

Hope your day was a delight and an adventure.

Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful ...

... I miss my metro stop in the mornings.
Good Morning, Kittens!  Yes, you read correctly.  This morning, I somehow missed my transfer at Metro Center. I'm not really sure what went wrong.  The last station I remember was Judiciary Square (two stops before Metro Center).  I was reading my book.  The train was doing this awful stop/start/stop/start in the tunnels before each station.  I looked up and thought "the next station must be Metro Center."  WRONG.  The next station was Farragut North.  Oops.  Overshot by one stop.  And, so I was a little late(r than usual) to work this morning.
Lessee ... not much has happened in my world recently.  Last night, one of my neighbors came over for a little while to watch TV.  She and her husband recently got a new 40" Plasma TV and it is giving her headaches (weird?).  So, she wanted to watch my cute little 27" LCD TV for awhile to see if it gave her headaches as well.  It didn't.  I guess maybe they will get a smaller TV now?  Who knows?
Lots of excitment going on this weekend ... Tonight, for Happy Hour, I am meeting SCGB, CJ, AQ (this really cute guy I met at CJ's holiday party, who is getting back together with his ex.  WTF?), and Tomokito (who is recently back from Happy Happy Japan) may be joining us as well.  Yay!  Boozy Good Times ... followed by dinner.
Saturday, K-Factor and I are making lunch.  I think SCGB may join us.  I am making tomato soup.  She's making grilled cheese.  YUM.  Also on Saturday, I am undecorating and cleaning.  At 7:30, I'm meeting Steveandbobby at the Bar Formerly Known as Halo for cocktails.  mmm.  cocktails.  Sunday, more cleaning and organizing and possibly boozing.  And, I'm off on Monday, so -if all the cleaning and organizing is done- I will do some shopping.  Yay!
Have a great day!  And a happy weekend!

Not a Multi-Millionaire

Good Morning, Kittens.
Bad news.  I did not win MegaMillions.  I suppose I will get over it.  Just so you know, I would be really good at being fabulously wealthy.
I guess winning the Coke Machine Lottery was all the luck I was allowed yesterday.  In case you missed it on twitter/facebook, I put a dollar into the Coke machine down the hall from my office, pressed the "coke" button, and out came a can of Coke.  And another can of Coke.  And another can of Coke.  And another can of Coke.  And another can of Coke.  And it was starting to get ridiculous. And three more cans of Coke.  Then, the machine gave me my $0.25 change.  So, for $0.75, I got 8 cans of Coke.  Crazy.
Once home from work, I made a martini and cooked dinner - black bean chili.  After dinner, I watched "Finding Nemo" and had a fun little phone flirtation with this OMGsuperCute guy in Mississippi (who is planning to move to DC in the next few months ... so he says).
No plans for this evening.  I need to do laundry.  Make a few phone calls.  Figure out what I'm going to eat for dinner.  And strain out the Meyer Lemon-infused Vodka.  I also need to develop my Weekend Plan of Attack.   I have a three-day weekend, and -other than having a happy hour on Friday (with a trio of SuperCute Friends)- I want to spend the weekend cleaning and organizing my crazy life.  And maybe doing some shopping.  And joining the gym.  And going to the gym.  And making some doctor appointments (although I am still having difficulty finding a gay/gay-friendly doctor who (1) accepts my insurance and (2) is accepting new patients.  *sigh*).
Have a great day!

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

Good Morning, Kittens!
Four days into the New Year, I'm almost ready to put my New Year's Resolution into ACTION!  Before the holidays began, SCGB and I were talking about New Year's Resolutions.  He had heard somewhere that, rather than making a long list of resolutions, it's best to only make one.  I have several things I want to accomplish this year, but most of them are thematically related.  So, I have declared 2011 to be the Year of Health!
I want to eat better.  Exercise more. And get some (rather pressing) health issues (which I have been ignoring ... do you know how hard it is to find a gay/gay-friendly doctor who (1) accepts my insurance and (2) I like?) taken care of.
I want to eat healthier foods (like this tangerine I'm eating for breakfast).  And, I want to stop eating lunch out so frequently (it's expensive and not always the healthiest option).  The problem with not eating lunch out is that my building is a soul-crushing monstrosity with nothing to do nearby.  Sometimes, one has to escape for a minute or two (or 120).  If I don't go out for lunch, there is usually no other place to go to.  No cute little coffee shops.  No tiny boutiques.  *sigh*  I am thinking I will bring my lunch and then simply tagalong with my co-workers.  Hopefully that will work.
I am also going to joni the gym.  And *ugh* I hate the gym.  BUT, I need to exercise and it's too cold to do it outside.  There is a Washington Sports Club near my apartment, so I will probably join that in the coming week or so.  They are currently offering a reduced sign-up fee and January free.   Combine that with some benefits my company offers and I won't have to pay for the membership until Summer.  Yay!
So, there you have it.  My Year of Health.  Let's see how long it lasts ...

Weekend Update: It's the End of the Century Edition!

Good Morning, Kittens!  And Happy New Year! Hard to believe another year has come and gone, isn't it?
My New Year's Weekend was quite fun. On Thursday, I left work around 3 to board the Bolt Bus to NYC.  The bus was full but traffic was light.  We made really good time until we hit traffic at the Lincoln Tunnel.  I disembarked around 9:30 or so and got to Jake's condo around 10.  I was STARVING, so we went to a little Thai restaurant in his neighborhood.  It was tasty.  I had vegetarian crispy duck salad.  I'm not normally a fan of fake meat made to taste like real meat, but this duck had the crispy texture it needed and a nice falvor.  Hurrah.
Friday, Jake and I had lunch at Bread and, then, met David at Uni-Qlo.  I was a little sad because Uni-Qlo had nothing for me.  Waah.  But, I perked up when we went to a bar for drinks.  Yay.  Drinks!  David left, and Jake and I went back to his place to rest up for the crazy New Year's Eve party.  We met up with David again around 8 at a yummy vegetarian restaurant (the name of which I can't remember).  After dinner, we walked to David's friend's apartment and drank lots and lots and lots of champagne.  Then, it was 2011. Yay.
Some of us may have been a little durnk.  We got back to Jake's around 3, I think.  Saturday consisted of blobbing around until we left to meet my friend, Min, for ramen noodles ... except the noodle restaurant was closed.  Instead we went to a yummy Mexican restaurant, El Centro. Mmmm. Margaritas.  After eating, we walked over to Posh for a quick cocktail.  Then, back to Brooklyn for a little blobbing on the sofa.
Sunday, I got up early and packed my bag.  Then, I said good-bye to Jake and left to meet David at the Market Cafe ... except it was closed (are you sensing a theme?).  Instead we went to HK.  Then, we went to the bus stop and waited for my bus.  It was congested but the bus was close to on-time. I thought it would be packed, but I managed to get a seat to myself.  Yay!
The bus got to DC around 5PM (a little behind schedule), I was home by 6:00 and in bed at 9.
And how was your New Year's?  Chock full of fun and excitment?
Have a great day!  *smooches*
