Weekend Update: Over-Eating Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens!  I hope your weekend (and the last of last week) was full of fun and excitement and delicious foodz.  Mine sure was! On Thursday, I made like an animated rat and made ratatouille.  The photo on the left is the Pre-Cooked Ratatouille.  I found a recipe in my Mark Bittman cookbook, How to Cook Everything Vegetarian , which included instructions for a stovetop version.  It was super easy.  And really yummy.  Yay! Plus, it used up almost all of my CSA veggies for the week. On Friday, I *finally* had my hairz did.  I missed my last two appointments because of my back and the training I went to.  SO, it had been almost 12 weeks since my last cut.  UGH.  My hairs were driving me crazy.  On the plus side, I suppose, is that you can now see what my actual natural hair color is ... So dark!  So gray! Fortunately, an hour or two later, I was restored to my full blond glory ... My Natural Color...

Bullet Points

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens. It's been awhile, so let's play catch up with a quick, bullet-pointed list of what's been happening.  When I last wrote and update, I was in Atlanta ... The hot guy came over again on Thursday evening (May 10th). It was fun.  BUT, once again, I proved to myself that I really don't enjoy casual hooking up. I need emotional connection as well. May 11th, last day of class.  Yay!   Mexican food with my friend, Christal, and her Very Obstinate 2-year-old, MAC. May 12th, returned to the DeeCee. May 13th, called Mom for Mother's Day. May 14th, Doctor's appointment.   May 15th, registered for the Army 10-Miler and attended a rather uncomfortable Co-op Board Meeting. Also, CSA Farm Share vegetables!  Nom nom nom May 16th, did a shit-ton (metric) of laundry. May 17th.  D came over.  We had the oral secks.  And, he got so light-headed he nearly passed out.  Yes.  I am that good. Howeve...

Philadelphia: Gelato Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! As you may recall, I am on a kind of Work Hiatus, which, I just found out has been extended to -possibly- April 16th. WTF ... but, today, is not the day to focus on the clusterfuckery that is my job. That will come later. I promise. Anyway, so during this Hiatus, I decided to take a little trip to PHILADELPHIA!!!! I love the City of Brothers Who Love. Mostly, because I have some SuperCool Friends there. BUT, also, because it has really good food and gelato and interesting buildings and history and cobblestones and lots and lots of very hot men. So, I departed my abode early Wednesday morning, boarded a MegaBus, and was off! I arrived at 30th Street Station around 1:30. I met Lora at Parc for a late (and very boozy) lunch. Then, we walked over to my hotel, the Latham , so I could check in. The ceiling in my bathroom was mirrored (well, reflective). This cracked us up. See? Lora had to go back to work (or something). I took a nap. Around 5:30, I heade...

Weekend Update: Dead Presidents Edition

Image
Hello, Kittens! Here's a quick rundown of my weekend ... Friday, I left work an hour early to go get re-blonded. YAY! I look great. The Colornatrix recently returned from a 3-week trip to Thailand and Vietnam (Hate her!), so she talked about that, and I told her about my 3-day trip to Vegas. Afterwards, I met Mike (Who Makes Cakes) and Tiger (Who Doesn't Make Cakes) for dinner. We went to Austin Grill and had many margaritas. Then, I went home. On Saturday, I blobbed around. Then, I had boozy lunch at Adega, bought some prosecco and did a little grocery shopping at the Whole Foods. I made a ginger syrup for these drinks , which I took to SCGB's apartment for a little dinner party. On the way to the party, I ran into some friends on the bus. That was totally random. It made the bus ride go more quickly which was a bonus. Dinner was great. SCGB's BF was there, as were the German and the German's (Hot) Wife and their 9-month-old. We ate. We drank. We pl...

I Have a Complex

(I also have a tapeworm, named Carl ... but's that a story for another post) Good morning, Kittens. As you may know, I am not really dating anyone seriously right now (b/c, y'know, a certain someone is in Las Vegas and the other guys I have been seeing have not been panning out). BUT, I do maintain a couple of profiles on a couple of "dating" sites. I realize that the majority of men do not use these sites to date. I do. I have met several fun friends and gone on some cool dates with guys off these sites. Recently on one of them, I have received a flurry of emails (OK, 3 emails, spread over about a week) from a man in Baltimore. Now, (1) Baltimore is too far for me, and (2), while this guy said in his profile he is 40, he must've had a hard, hard life (and not moisturized regularly). Anyway, he seemed nice enough, but I am not at all attracted to him or interested in meeting him. I could only see the emails continuing, so, after the third email, I sent him the...

Weekend Update: The Case of the Disappearing Date Edition

Image
Good Memorial Day Morning, Kittens. So far this has been possibly the worst 4-day weekend EVER. Luckily it has been punctuated by some bright moments of fun as well. To start off, my Thursday night date with J was postponed (who's surprised?) because Awards Night at his school did not finish until late. We talked that night and he would be through with work around 2 on Friday. That would be perfect, because I was getting my hair cut/colored and would finish around 3. We planned to meet in Cleveland Park to catch a movie, Pirates of the Caribbean 4 . Well, around noon he texts, then calls, saying he might have to help set up for graduation ... or he might not. Maybe he can get out of it. He'd let me know. Later, he texts and says he couldn't get out of it. So, he wouldn't be done until 5 or 6. Boo. Which was fine. After my hair was finished, I went to AU to hang out with Mike (Who Makes Cakes). We chatted until 5, and then headed to Nellie's to meet up wit...

Weekend Update: You Know You're Old When Your Idea of a Fun Weekend Is to Sit at Home Alone Edition

Image
Good afternoon, kittens! I'm home from a boozy lunch with the fabulous Ms. Clio Bluestocking. Afterwards, I wandered over to Marshalls and bought a pair of jeans. $20! Yay! But, I seriously think the manufacturers are lying about the size. These are 29 waist. And they feel big. AND, I feel like I've gained weight because I'm not able to walk as much with the new job. What is that all about? VUBOQ is getting fat. ANYWAY, my weekend ... it was cold. I didn't want to go out, BUT Mike dragged me out to meet a friend of his in Downtown Silver Spring. Margaritas were involved. So I went. It was fun. After dinner, I walked home and sat on the sofa and watched TV. Saturday, I had to get up EARLY(ish) to go get my hair done ... here I am suffering for beauty: And here I am all purdy: After my hair appointment, I went to Mike's house for a late brunch/lunch/thing. He made eggs florentine. Yumz. Then, I came home and blobbed around the house. Sunday? More blob...

Red-Headed Stepchild

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Yesterday, as some of you probably already know, I decided on making a little change. With help from the Fabulous Colornatrix, I am once again a redhead. Yay. This color is actually pretty close to what my hair color was when I was a kid. As I got older, my hair became more and more auburn. And, then, all the red disappeared and it became a mousy blondy brown. *sigh* After my appointment, I met Mike (Who Makes Cakes) for lunch. We had the following, mildly amusing conversation. Mike: I love your hair. Me: Thanks. It's really close to my original color. Mike: I know. Me: No. Really. My original color is ... Mike: I know. Me: (pause). Oh. Right.* Lunch was fun. Then, we went back to his office, where I quickly finished his scarf. See: I was worried about finishing it, but, as luck would have it, there was a fire in one of the Metro stations, so my regular 45-50 minute trip to the salon took a little over 90 minutes. Lots of time to knit on the tra...

Flaxen Waxen Knotted Polka-Dotted

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I had a lovely morning with the Colornatrix yesterday. She does such good work. I bought her a MegaMillions QuickPick (which reminds me: I need to check to see if I won! $250 Million!) and gave her a couple of chilies from my garden. During our chat, she mentioned that she LUV'ed the tea-infused vodka I gave her last time. Yay! AND, then, I met the cute new "trainee". He gives good hair-washing, fer sure. Too bad he's too young and too partnered. *sigh* And, the final hair result? Back: Front: Verdict: SUPERCUTE (if I do say so myself) I texted Mike (Who Makes Cakes) to see about meeting for lunch, but he didn't respond until I was on the Metro. So I had a lovely grilled tofu wrap and glass of pinot grigio at Adega. Then, I picked up some purple duct tape for some temporary pipe repair, and I bought some groceries for a little experimental cooking. Reading Julie and Julia , although quite frustrating in many ways (more on this later...

Still Here?

Good Morning, Kittens! Do you know what I need? A Job! Well, yes, but besides that. More Bourbon! Um, yes, besides that, too. A Winning Lottery Ticket! Um ... Oh! Oh! A fabulous hair cut! YES! That's it! And, that's where I'm heading this morning. VUBOQ needs a little time with the Colornatrix. Hurrah! I can't wait to tell her that her cut was the Talk of Detroit. Yesterday was an Exercise in Ineffectiveness*. I pretty much spent the day either (a) on the sofa or (b) napping. I did find several jobs to which I would like to apply. Perhaps, I will do that later today. I am getting a little frustrated with the whole unemployment thing, especially the unresponsiveness of certain parties. I have emailed. Should I call? Am I being too pushy? Too impatient? Is it a plus to seem that way? Or a minus? GAH. MegaMillions is at $250 Million. Have a great day! *smooches* *Although not entirely, I did manage to make the Roommate stomp from the living room because I d...

For Lack of a Clever Title

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Quoth the Colornatrix, "I love cutting your hair, because you let me do whatever I want." Well, it's only hair. If I don't like it, it can be fixed ... but I always like it! So the hair appointment was fun! She's comping all my visits until I get a job. Isn't that the sweetest thing ever? I gave her the fifth of Tea-Infused Vodka. I guess we'll find out if she liked it at my next visit. And, perhaps, by then I will be gainfully employed. Wouldn't that be chock full of teh awesome? CNTBD came over for drinks and a light dinner. We had martinis made with the gin which Anne-Marie from Philly brought for me. We both gave it two thumbs up. Way up! (Not as good as Leopold's though, but very very close). Dinner was Super Simple: Pita Wraps ... pita with hummus, lettuce, tomato, feta and black olives. And leftover quinoa salad. We also had some blueberry gin with lemonade. That s**t is delicious. CNTBD has a big day to...

Trials and Tribulations

Good Morning, Kittens! I'm off to get my hair did this morning. OMG. I love me some Quality Time with the Colornatrix. I have a bottle of tea-infused vodka for her. Hope she likes it. So, yesterday, there was Capital D Drama, which if you follow my facebooktwitterplurkstatusupdates you might have heard about... I had a date. With a guy. At 5:30. At Adega (mmm. Eggplant Fries). I'm at Adega at 5:30, perusing the wine selection when I get a text message: "I'm running late." To which I reply, "How late?" 10 minutes and a Happy Hour Glass of Cabernet later, I get the following reply: "I'll be leaving work in 5 minutes and it'll take me 4o more minutes to get there." To which I reply, "I don't feel like sitting here for another 45 minutes, so don't bother." I have given him a Third Chance though. We've rescheduled for Thursday. Same time. Same place. He says he'll be early. I'm not holding my breath....

The Hair Up There

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! It's almost the Weekend! Hurrah! I know you people with jobs are excited :-) What's going on with me? All sorts of fun stuff. On Wednesday, I met CNTBD for lunch. We went to Matchbox and had pizza. And wine. And then some more wine. And I was super bloated, so I came home and napped. Then, I did laundry. OMG. I have all the funz. Thursday, I got my hairz did! YAYz. I took Leah the Colornatrix a piece of pottery ( this one ). She loved it! We did color. We did cut. And, when I went to pay, the front desk woman, whose name I can never remember, said, "It's been comped." Huz-ZAH! I was, like, are you sure? And, Leah, said "Yes. We can work something out after you get a job." It certainly pays to go to the same stylist for 8 years. Saved me about $100 bucks. Ya-HOO. (I still gave her a $20 tip though). Hair all purty, I walked over to American University to have lunch with Mike. It was AU Staff Appreciation D...

In Case You Weren't Following My Tweets (and Why Weren't You? Hmmm?)

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Here's a quick photographic rundown of my day, yesterday. However, this may seem like old news for those of you who are all hip and with it and following my twitter/plurk/facebook updates. I guess you can just deal with it. Or revel in the glory that is me. Hurrah! I met CNTBD at Zaytinya for lunch. I had retsina ... and we ate many yummy mezze. And had dessert. Mmmm: Then, I headed over to the salon ... this is why: Before During After Welcome to my Natural Color. As Gawd as mah witness, you will Never See it Again! Hair all purty, I lurked in coffee shops and bookstores, until I could meet my friend, Carolyn, for Happy Hour(s). We went to Jack's (on 17th St). 1/2 Price Bottle of Wine Night! *w00t!* Then, we had martinis. Then, we were durnk and we came home: The End. More later. *smooches*

VUBOQ Doesn't Ever Go Out So He Tries to Cram All His Socializing in One Day

Good Morning, Kittens! *urgh* Ever go to bed because you're really, really tired and, then, be completely unable to sleep? Yeah? That was me last night. Gah. I have a busy, busy day today. You see, I haven't had a haircut in months . I kept thinking "I should wait until I have an interview. Then, I'll have great hair for that." Unfortunately, no one wants to interview VUBOQ. *sniff* Perhaps it's the hair? So, I decided to make an appointment, which is this afternoon. Huz-ZAH! No color this time though. In fact, my roots are so long that most of the color will be cut out. You'll get to see me at as close to my natural color as I will ever allow. Post-cut photos will be posted this evening (possibly) when I get home. Or I may send one or two to Twitter. Just check over there --> I made a 2PM appointment and planned my day around that. CNTBD suggested lunch one day this week, and -well- today fit into my schedule. We're going to Zay...

Could You Plz Stop Blogging About UR Hair?

Image
I can't help it. When one spends his entire month's "miscellaneous" budget allotment on something one should get at least two blog posts out of it. So here is my photo montage, cleverly titled I was slightly tipsy and alone and trying to take a photo of the back of my head to show you how awesome my hair looked and don't you think Korto was robbed? Oops. Getting closer! Even closer! YAY! The Front and the Back! Have a good morning, kittens! *smooches*

The Natural

Splitting Hairs

Image
Since no one seems to read blogs on Friday anyway, here is a brief photo essay of my Hair Adventure: This is Leah the Colornatrix working her styling magic (this trip we cut before we colored). The Colornatrix and I post cut. Don't we look cute? Isn't she fabulous? This is the part where I suffer for beauty. Srsly. The chemicals burn my eyes and I cry . After the salon, I met Mike for dinner at 4912 (Yummy Thai Food). [I'm the one on your right]. And, there you have it. Seems like Straight Guys get their hair cut, too . I'm off work at 12:30 today and heading to New York City soon thereafter! Will post all about my exciting Big Apple Adventure [and stalking of Puntabulous ] on Monday! *smooches*
