It's Been Awhile

Image
Good Friday Evening! It's been awhile since my last post ... and this is why: Why, yes, that is (errr ... was) my kitchen.  It is being renovated.  There has been drama, Drama, and DRAAAAAAAAMA.  And, that was all on Day 1.  BUT, I am saving those stories for a long post once everything is completed (hopefully soon!).  In the meantime ... Things with M (not the one in Vegas.  the one here) have been heating up. Last weekend, he rented a hotel room at Rouge in DC.  So, we checked in.  Had hot hotel sex.  Then,  we had dinner at Estadio (a tapas restaurant).  Then, we went back to the hotel and had more hot hotel sex.  Then, we went to sleep.  And, then, we woke up and had more hot hotel sex.  And, then, we had brunch.  Good times. We have talked about seeing how we get along with y'know not having hot sex and just conversing.  So, Monday (or was it Tuesday?), he asked if he could come over, and I...

VUBOQ and the Bi-Polar Day

"Good" Evening, Kittens. What a day of ups and downs ... A project I have been working on for awhile was about to "go live." I asked a couple of co-workers to test it. And they couldn't even access it. Boo. So, I called IT. They fixed the problem. Yay. So, I asked one co-worker to try it out. It seemed to work. Yay. Then, my boss (the one who denied my travel for training because there wasn't enough money) announced that, in addition to two co-workers who he's sending to Vegas for training (I'm not overly pleased about this), he now wants another co-worker to go ... because she needs this "crucial training" ... even though there is only ONE class (out of the 4 day training) that applies to this co-worker's job. WTF? BOOOOOO! So, I took a long lunch. Yay! When I got back from lunch, I learned that the test try my co-worker made on my project wasn't recorded for some reason. Boo. Then, I coordinated a very successful site vi...

Metro is Trying to Ruin My Life

Image
Good morning, Kittens! What a craptastic day (already!). Since nothing really happened last night (I did laundry. I have a fabulous new comforter set ), let's bitch about Metro for awhile ... Metro is trying to RUIN MY LIFE. SEE?!?!: Labor Day Weekend. Every. Single. Metro. Station. North. of Fort Totten. CLOSED! WTF? Oh, there will be free shuttle buses (whoopee!). But, let's do the math. A 6 car train can hold how many people? Maybe 2-300? A bus can hold how many people? Like 4? If they are thin. So it looks like my fun-filled 4-day(!) Labor Day Weekend will be spent with many many many Metro Headaches. GAH! And, that's not all! In the good ol' days, when Metro was broke but still functional (as opposed to now when they are broke and dysfunctional), you were allowed to exit a station using your SmarTrip card even if you didn't have enough money to cover the fare. You could "go negative" as we say in the Metro-Ride...

It's Easier to Be Unhappy

Image
I read the above line in one of Carolyn Hax's chats on the Washington Post website. And, it's so true. Being unhappy means blobbing on the sofa all day, drinking copious amounts of gin (and vodka. and rum. and a little tequila too), knitting, and watching DVDs. What it does not mean is slogging through all the job ads (both of them), sending out resumes and writing cover letters. Being unhappy means eating chips and salsa for dinner (and lunch. and breakfast). What it does not mean is pulling oneself off the sofa to walk to the Whole Foods (in the pouring rain) to buy interesting vegetables to combine in fun and unique ways to make a delicious dinner (or lunch). Being unhappy certainly is easier, but it's not much fun. Have a great day, kittens. *smooches*

Good Morning, Kittens! So much to do this week and so little time. It looks like I won't be able to visit the pottery studio this week (unless I am SuperMotivated today) and, next week, the studio is closed for Spring Break. Waaah. Yesterday, I finished the rough draft of my Federal Resume. Now, I just have 2 essay questions to write for 1 of the 4 Federal jobs I am applying for in the next two weeks. I also have to find 2 other jobs to apply for this week. Plus, I have to start preparing for my Fabulous Birthday Celebration on Saturday. This year, the theme is Low-Key Poverty Chic! Hurrah for Depression Era Fun! We may even make gin in the bathtub for that little touch of authenticity. Haha. I kid (but ... hm ... maybe not). Actually, I'm having a few friends over for a Bring a Bottle of Wine and a Hunk (of cheese) Wine Tasting Party. It should be fun. I'm sorry I can't invite the world, like last year. Oh, well. 39 is not that big of a deal. The Big 4-0 will be All Ou...

Spleen Venting

Good Morning, Kittens. Happy Winter Solstice! As I mentioned yesterday, the StickSteven 2008 Year in Review letter has gone out, and -as I could have predicted- the bitching and moaning has started. Usually, at least one person has an issue with it. I didn't put them in. Why didn't I draw this? Whatever. To those who complain, my standard reply is "you don't like my letter? Draw your own fucking letter." [Except, of course, when it's my parents. Then, I delete the "fucking."] Some of you astutely noticed that I did not include Y in the letter. As standard practice, I tend not to include the people I'm dating or were dating during the year. Yesterday, I had this little exchange with Y via IM: Y: me no like sticksteven 2008 V: why not? Y: ur almost as bad as the russians Y: tearing pages out of history books V: what? i included all major events of my life. Y: "fireworks in nyc" Y: i donno.. i thought something wa...

Good Afternoon, Kittens. VUBOQ is major cranky, yo. I had a volunteer gig lined up for this morning. Then, I was going to toodle around the District, running errands and, perhaps, going to the NGA to see the Pompeii exhibit. Last night, around 6, I get an email from the Volunteer Coordinator. And, guess what? They had *such* a successful turnout over the weekend that they don't need anyone to come in this week. So, let's see ... they had volunteers come in on Saturday, who completed all the work to be done, but it took until Tuesday at Close of Business to email the Wednesday volunteers that they weren't needed? WTF? Oh. The excuse was "we're so busy around here." Mmhm. Well, y'know, people who volunteer also have busy lives and like to make plans. And, when they've already turned down things so they can help out, a little more advanced notice and a lot more appreciation would be nice. How hard is it to send out an email first thing Monday morning? Not...

How I Feel

Right now, I feel like my life is collapsing around me, like the house at the end of that horror movie (Amityville? Poltergeist?). Constricting. Squeezing. Crumpling like a piece of typing paper. Every breath is harder to take. I'm trapped. I feel like I've had my crisis and now my friends have moved on: He's better now. He doesn't need our support, our calls, our invitations for weekend fun. Except I don't feel better. I feel like I could stay on my sofa forever ... or, at least, until my savings run out. I feel like a product of my WASP upbringing. Look perfect on the outside, while your insides crumble. My tears taste sweet.

Late Night Sober Blogging

Because it's so much more fun to enumerate how your life is going to shit when not nearly durnk enough ... So, let's see ... Besides all the stuff I've been whinging about all week (y'know, unemployment, vicious attack, unsupportive ex-boyfriend) ... 1. I'm not durnk. 2. I should be durnk. But, I'm not. 3. I'm out of mixer and don't feel like drinking gin from the cat bowl . 4. I made a mistake on the scarf I'm knitting and don't feel like tinking it. 5. I'm sure all my friends are out having fun without me (the bastards! Don't they know I'm in pain ?*). 6. Y sent me the following text message: "I miss you." 7. After debating several responses**, I sent: "I miss you too, but it's something we'll have to get over." On the bright side, I had a lovely boozy lunch (at least, boozy on my part) with the elegant Ms. Clio Bluestocking : [OMG. Don't you just totally *heart* the new 'do?] I got home, I had a...

10 Reasons Why VUBOQ Is Tired Today

1. He took a nap yesterday afternoon for about an hour. 2. He stayed over at Y's (and he *never* sleeps well at Y's). 3. He went to bed at 10:30, which means he woke up at 2. 4. Y's apartment was too cold. 5. Y's apartment was too hot. 6. Y's apartment was too cold. 7. Fuego is a naughty kitty. 8. He had to get up to go to the bathroom at 2:30. 9. Y came to bed around 3. 10. He was thirsty at 3:30. And, 6:30 came awfully early. Now, vuboq can't decide if he hasn't had enough coffee ... or if he's had too much.

The Horrors of Retirement

Image
in which I not only steal Mush 's use of "in which," but I also discover that I am going to die miserable, alone, and starving ... I received a fun email this morning from my 401(k) plan. They have a new Retirement Checkup! , which will help me to insure that I'm saving enough money to survive after I retire ( which, apparently, is going to be at Age NEVER ). Considering that I put 5% of my salary into my 401(k), combined with the generous *cough* 25% match by my company, AND that I plan to put $200/year (at least) into my fabulous PaxWorld ROTH IRA (which has shown consecutive losses ever since I started throwing my money into that investment sinkhole *), this is what the wonderful Retirement Checkup! predicts: On a brighter note, scroll down to see the WINNARZ of last night's 10% Refund Challenge and Poor Bastages Who Owe the Tax Man Pity Party drawings! More later. *smooches* *I'm kidding, btw. Not about the losses, but about the investment sinkhole ...

My office. It has no heat. Here is a dramatic representation of VUBOQ: I'm really quite underwhelmed about life right now. VUBOQ needs a new attitude. And a new job. Does anyone want to hire VUBOQ? Apparently not. VUBOQ bought a plane ticket today (because he is *rolling* in money and is not at all concerned about credit card debt) to go to his brother's surprise birthday party (shh. it's a surprise) this weekend. Fortunately, the parental units will be partially subsidizing the cost of the ticket. *whew* Y wants to get together tonight to talk. He's been in Puerto Rico on holiday. While there, he had time to think. Hm. Wonder what he wants? Should be interesting ... I think I'm going to make soup tonight. Total Randomness brought to you by ... Cheap Office Management Company, the letter K(brr), and the number 12 (degrees).
