Likker Making 101

The key to making good likker is drinking good likker.

Here's the start of my strawberry lemon likker:


(nearly) 1 lb of strawberries.
zest of 2 lemons
750 mL of grain alcohol (like Everclear)

Oh and what the HELL is a zest of lemon, my mother tells me its what you get by scraping the outer skin off and my aunt tells me to squeeze a lemon into the recipe. It throws me for a loop each time a recipe calls for it. (can you tell I'm a newbie at the creative cooking thing?)
