April Fool's! Hoax Revealed
The endangered species, Arborus sockii, spp. ilexliveinsii, pictured here:
is *not* the rarely seen Holly Dwelling Tree Sock. Rather, I placed two unassuming, domesticated Athleticus sockii, spp. walmartus in the Holly bush and photographed them with a low-resolution cellphone camera. Careful observation should have clued you in to this hoax.
For example, the male is lacking the characteristic three red stripes. And their position is entirely incorrect for a proper Holly-dwelling Tree Sock mating ritual.
Alas, so many of you were fooled anyway. I sincerely apologize to any Sockithologists who considered coming to College Park to conduct further studies.
