Another Day in Paradise

Good Morning, Kittens!
 
Yesterday, at work, our phones went down, which meant I could make no outgoing calls.  Hurrah.  This was not good since I need to make about 8 BILLION outgoing calls.  Oh, well.  [and the phones aren't working today either]
 
Once I got home from work, I relaxed for a bit and, then, went for a short run.  There was an exciting accident at the intersection near my apartment.  A bus hit a car.  Or a car hit a bus.  I didn't see it, but I did witness the trafficky aftermath.  I don't think anyone was seriously injured.  My run was good. 
 
For dinner, I made thai pesto pasta and salad.  At 9 PM, I went up to K-Factor's place for beer and dessert (peanut butter cupcakes and mint chocolate brownies = yum).
 
Before bed, I finally broke down and turned on the air-conditioning.  Yay.  Of course, my floor was covered this morning with this weird black stuff that my a/c spews out.  Gross.  I will sweep it up when I get home, I guess.  At least with the a/c on, I had a relatively good night's sleep.
 
And, that's all the news for now, I suppose.  Today's outfit is stripe-y.  Huzzah.

    Did you clean the filter on the ac before you turned it on? I didn't do that one year and got grey fluffy stuff all over the room from it.

    And as humid as it was last night, I really wished I had the ac in then, but I've been lazy about it.

Shaken. Bruised. And Just the Facts.

This is not the post I was intending to write this evening, but ... I need to write things down to sort them out in my head as best as possible. At approximately 2:50PM on my walk home from the metro station, I was attacked from behind. I have walked down Wayne Avenue at least twice a day for 5 years, at all hours of the day and night. I have always felt perfectly safe doing so. Even today didn't seem out of the ordinary. As I approached the intersection of Dale and Wayne, I passed a young black man in his early 20s. I made eye contact and nodded. I crossed Dale and heard a noise. I turned and saw someone running up Dale. That's when I noticed someone following me. I turned off my iPod and reached for my phone. And he jumped me, putting me in a chokehold and trying to pull me to the ground. I began hitting him over my shoulder with my large umbrella (which, sadly, is now in pieces). 12 of 12: It's Been a Long Time Edition

Good Evening, Kittens. Look! It's my 12 of 12 for January ... Some of us have to get up at 5:30 AM ... even if the Evil Snow Shovelers are shoveling snow at 1:30AM and it wakes us up and keeps us up for an hour. Even though we get up at 5:30 AM ... sometimes we don't make it to the metro station until Much Later (*cough* 7:45 *cough*) ... but then we get on a train and it whizzes (*heh*) through the snowscape. Eventually (meaning "forEVER"), I arrive at work and see ... snow-covered bicycles. Check email. Eat breakfast. Die one thousand deaths before 9AM. Meetings. Paperwork. Incompetence. *ROWR* Creating survey. Annoying little pop-up thing that Won't. Go. Away. How cute are these boots? How CUTE are these BOOTS? Wandering around taking photos of damage in my building ... Don't Panic. It's almost Go Home Time. It's a good thing the Count of Monte Cristo is 3261 pages long.
