Still Shutdown ...

Image
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ... It looks like M and I might be getting back together.  Recently, we've had amazing times together.  And, he seems to be open to us going to counseling.  I am hoping both individual and couple.  BUT, I haven't had the inclination to look into it because.  well.  I am stressed out about the whole stupid Government Shutdown. I AM GETTING SHUTDOWN ZITS!  WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?! As for the other guy I was casually dating (remember: the hot bad kisser?), I let him down easy. WHICH, brings me to the title of my new book idea: How to Let Him Down Easy by Not Returning His Phone Calls. I KID!  I did return his phone calls.  well, his text messages.  And I was all "this just isn't working for me."  Because it wasn't.  I don't get it.  He was super-hot. Smart.  Good job.  Nice guy. BUT, I wasn't all that into him.  *sigh*  I should have been.  Oh, well. I hav...

Better-ish

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! After spending most of the day on the sofa plus a long-winding walk to the Whole Foods (and Likker Store), I am feeling a bit better. I hope it is not the Just Woke Up After Boatloads of Sleep-type of Feel Better. I still have 47 Gabillion canker sores, which are still making eating a bit of chore (but on the plus side of that, I bet I've lost that extra pound I was packing over the holidays!). VUBOQ's Guide to Losing Weight: Don't Eat! Woo hoo! So, last night, I actually followed a recipe (I know! Shocking!) in How to Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman. I made Glazed Carrot Soup with Garlic, Tequila, and Lime. Here it is cooking: And here's the final product: Final Result: DELICIOUS ... although 1/4 cup lime juice was a bit too much for my 47 Gabillion canker sores. Le Ow! This weekend, I don't have too much on the agenda ... Dinner on Sunday. And that's about it. I'm sure more excitement will develop as the day progresses an...

Good Morning, Kittens! We have snow! We have ice! The soup I made last night was Delicious! I'll share the recipe later, but first ... Here's what my eye looked like last night: And here it is this morning: WTF? Gross. And, VUBOQ really needs to wash his hair. In other "good" news, at our annual stockholders meeting, I was re-elected to the Board. Hurrah. And here's the soup recipe: Adapted from [a cookbook, the name/author of which I have forgotten] ... Southwestern Corn and Cheese Chowder Ingredients: 2 extra large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch cubes 6 cups homemade vegetable broth 1 bottle of Mexican beer 2 tsps ground cumin 1 bay leaf 1 large onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced A Little Pat of Butter 1 can (16 oz) creamed corn 1 can (4 oz) diced green chilies 2 tsps chili powder 2 cups milk 1/2 cup heavy cream 1 lb Monterey Jack cheese Salt to taste 1. Place the sweet potatoes, 3 cups of broth, the beer, cumin, and bay leaf in a medium saucep...

Breaking: Chinese Noodle Soup Shocker!!

Image
VUBOQ is thinking about using Japanese udon noodles instead of the clear, vaguely reminiscent of eels, cellophane noodles in his Spicy Chinese Noodle Soup . Chinese Ambassador lodges a formal protest! America REELS from the SHOCK! News at 11.

Interruption

I have a feeling I'm going to be posting lots of stupid little things today. Apologies in advance. I just made a hair appointment! YAY! I will be blond(er) again! YAY! It's on Valentine's Day . I didn't have an appointment around Xmas, so I didn't give Leah, the Colornatrix a year-end tip. Do you think a Valentine's Day gift/tip would be appropriate? I am v. excited about the hair. Oh. And Happy Chinese New Year . It's the Year of the Rat . Everyone should make Spicy Chinese Noodle Soup ! I am. [Unlike some DC restaurants, no rats in my soup.] PS. A note to those of you visiting for the first time thanks to some linkyluv from BOSSY : I don't normally put photos of dissected rats on my blog. Srsly. This is a one time thing. Promise.

A Momentous Event

This morning, waking up in the not-quite-heated-through apartment and walking to work in the dreary-misty-grayish rain made VUBOQ yearn for the soup, perhaps some sort of curried soup. Thanks to the wonders of epicurious . I have found exactly what I was craving: Curried Potato, Spinach and Garbanzo Bean Soup . YUM. I ventured forth unto the Whole Foods and have purchased every single ingredient I need. Do you know what this means? Can you feel the excitement? The sense of History? Yes, kittens, VUBOQ will, for the first time in ... eons, be following a recipe with no substitutions . I KNOW!!!! Once you have regained your composure, pulled yourself back into your chair, or ... um ... been given smelling salts, please continue on with your bright and cheery day. PS. To my brother/brother's friends, who might stumble across this blog by putting my flickr ID into a search engine (like, i dunno, earthlink ?), welcome ! Word to the wise though, you may want to skip over the parts about ...
