Weekends Update: Catching Up Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! Let's play catch-up!  Two weekends ago, I flew to North Carolina.  It was my Dad's 75th Birthday.  So, after work (and after a couple of martinis), I caught a plane to my brother's place in Greensboro.  Then, the next morning, we drove the 3.5 hours to my parents' town.  There we had a lovely lunch with about 10 of my parents' friends in the beautiful (if somewhat stinky) town of Canton.  Canton's Paper Mill  After lunch, we just chilled at the parents' house and eventually had dinner at a Thai restaurant.  It was not that great.  It started snowing.  "The snow's supposed to stop around 6PM," Dad said.  It snowed all night.  The View from My Parents' Deck Because it was (a) snowy and (2) 24 degrees F outside, I decided to wait to do my 11 mile run until I got to Greensboro.  Which is what I did ... And, then, I had an early dinner and several cocktails with my brother, his gf, and the...

Weekend Update: Back into the Swing of Things

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! After several weeks of being anti-social and sofa-ridden, I finally am easing my way back into life.  Yay me! On Friday, my co-worker and I had planned to go to a DC Fringe Festival play, Young Republicans, which starred a friend of my co-worker.  Well, co-worker's boyfriend decided that he wanted to go too.  Gah.  Thus, rather than be a third wheel, I took a date, L (this would be our second date).  We all went to Fado in Gallery Place for beers and snacks and dinner and then headed to the play, which was entertaining, probably could stand some tightening up ... but it's Fringe.  That's what one should expect, I suppose. After the play,we all went our separate ways. On Saturday, I had a mini-English lesson with Tomoko's niece, who is visiting for a couple of weeks.  It went fine.  We talked about fashion and astrology.  And how to use numerology to determine if you and your "crush" are compatible.  Good ...

Bullet Points

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens. It's been awhile, so let's play catch up with a quick, bullet-pointed list of what's been happening.  When I last wrote and update, I was in Atlanta ... The hot guy came over again on Thursday evening (May 10th). It was fun.  BUT, once again, I proved to myself that I really don't enjoy casual hooking up. I need emotional connection as well. May 11th, last day of class.  Yay!   Mexican food with my friend, Christal, and her Very Obstinate 2-year-old, MAC. May 12th, returned to the DeeCee. May 13th, called Mom for Mother's Day. May 14th, Doctor's appointment.   May 15th, registered for the Army 10-Miler and attended a rather uncomfortable Co-op Board Meeting. Also, CSA Farm Share vegetables!  Nom nom nom May 16th, did a shit-ton (metric) of laundry. May 17th.  D came over.  We had the oral secks.  And, he got so light-headed he nearly passed out.  Yes.  I am that good. Howeve...

Weekend Update: It's a New Year Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! This is Jasha. He's a kitten, too. Jasha is Ray's cute little ball of Russian Blueness. The reason Jasha has taken up residence in BOSSY's Guest Room is because Ray is moving to a new apartment. Until Ray gets settled, Jasha will be with me ... and Isabella. Although the whole Jasha/Isabella introduction thing? Not going very well. Of course, it's not going horribly either (need I remind you of the Gertrude/Isabella disaster?). So, my weekend ... New Year's Eve was quiet. I had the final happy hour of 2009 with Tomokito and SCGB in his apartment. I decided not to go to the party with ScooterGuy, because the weather was crappy. Later, I watched the ball drop with Tomokito and her husband. Then, I returned to my apartment to drink champagne and watch Mad Men . New Year's Day, I did lots of blobbing around the house in the morning. In the late afternoon, I headed over to Ray's apartment to help him pack and to pick up Jasha. ...

Am I Blue?

Good morning, Kittens! It's been a gray and dreary past few days. The kind of day thatmakes one want to curl up on the sofa under a blanket with hot tea and cheesy movies. Yesterday, I managed to drag myself off of the sofa and to pottery studio in the afternoon. It was not a very successful day. I had an image of what I wanted to make, but couldn't quite realize it ... Instead, I ended up with this juglikepitcherything: On the way home, I met up with my friend, Mario (remember him, David?). He had taken a pottery class earlier in the year and had nearly half a bag of clay leftover ... which he gave me! Free clay! YAY! Once home, I did laundry and made dinner: tofu and broccoli in a ginger, lime, garlic, and tequila sauce. Then, K-factor came down and we watched Rachel Getting Married ... which was really good (but about 15 minutes too long). Today, I must do *more* cleaning ... and work on some government applications ... and, tonight, Eric from Baltimore is coming dow...

Margaritaville

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Yesterday certainly didn't turn out exactly as planned. I received a txt msg from Dana (pictured) asking if I wanted to meet for lunch. Turns out she's had a week/weekend of Drama and needed Many Margaritas. And what's a friend to do? Well, comply. We sat in the sun, had many margaritas and bitched about men. So, if I don't get a job this week because I didn't send out enough resumes, it's all Dana's Fault. Afterwards, we did a little shopping. I came home and experienced the malaise known as "I Really Shouldn't Have Had Margarita #4." I managed to pry myself off the sofa in time for pottery class. There was only one other student this week. Hurray for individualized instruction. I made a teapot (well, parts of a teapot: the body and two lids). I forgot to take pix. Maybe I will when I go to the studio tomorrow. My plans for today: I need to work on my Federal Resume (*shudder*), apply for a job or two, and prepare for th...

So here's my day in 12 fun pictures ... Co-Op Yardwork Day started bright and early at 8AM. Heather's job was to spray the poison ivy. Lucky Heather. Esther hoed a new garden bed. Yardwork done. It was time to get ready for Saturday Afternoon Margaritas: Stay at Home Edition (with Special Guest Star, Xanadu ). You could eat off this toilet. Srsly. Then, came the hoovering. OMG. So. Clean. A quick trip out to the yard to weed the flower bed. Pre-party nap with Isabella. Esther and Peter arrived first. They had to leave early for a beach trip. The party is in full swing. The pitchers of margaritas are flowing. Blueberry margaritas are surprisingly yummiliciuos! Mike "watching" Xanadu [He actually fell asleep. Imagine!]. The rest of the pix from my day are here. And there you have it. 12 of 12. *smooches*

Weekend Update: Pizza Edition

It's the last day of the year! *w00t!* And, I would like everyone to know that as far as my budget is concerned, I'm taking a mulligan for December. The do-over will be called "January 2008." I don't even want to think about how over-budget I was this month. So I'm not going to! YAY! So ... the weekend. It was fun. My date on Friday was nice. We had good martinis and good conversation at Firefly. Then, we parted ways. He to a dinner party, and I to my home. However, on my way home, Y called, saying that he and a friend were in Silver Spring and wanted to go out to dinner. I met them at the Burmese restaurant, Mandalay. Ginger salad. YUM. Saturday, Eric from Baltimore came down for a crazy night on the town. SCGB, Eric and I enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at my abode before heading to Alero in Dupont Circle (where Y joined us) for a couple of pitchers of margaritas (and cheese dip! and spinach enchiladas!). After dinner, the four of us headed over ...

VUBOQ is Draggy

Afternoon margaritas were fun. I am moving slowly. *oog*

Is This a Long Weekend I See Before Me?

Image
Happy Friday, kittenes! Last night, I went over to Y's to cook dinner. I made Pasta with Roasted Provencal Vegetable Sauce from epicurious . I followed the recipe as best I could. I only made a few minor changes. I was able to use some fresh herbs from our little garden plot in front of my building. Having not used a stove in quite some time, I got a little careless and had to be rushed to the burn unit (aka. the kitchen sink). *sigh* The things I do for the mens I likes. I forgot to take a photo of the final result. It looked pretty. The taste? It was kinda *meh*. I mean, it wasn't bad, but, after doing all that work roasting those stupid vegetables, I was hoping for something with more impact. Oh, well. Live. Learn. I kept having nightmares and waking up last night, so I'm a little cranky and disorientated this morning. Sorry. As for my weekend plans ... I am planning an Afternoon Margarita event as well as hosting Tom Collins and Friends on Monday. What better way to ce...

Weekend Update: Saturday Afternoon Margaritas: Baltimore Edition 2

Image
Pictures are worth a thousand words, so here's a really long entry: A few more photos are posted on Flickr . Kittens, I am exhausted . I didn't get out of bed until 6PM on Sunday. *rowr* *smooches* More later ... updated to note : Tomokito has uploaded some photos here . [Good Lord, I am C-U-T-E!]

A Lovely Time Was Had By All

After work yesterday, I went home, fed the psychokitty, packed an overnight bag, and headed to Y's. We had a good talk about the speed our relationship seems to be developing. Fortunately, we both are comfortable with it. So far. He made dinner - taboule, cheese and, then, pasta. We watched Casanova on DVD. We had fun. And lots of it. I am tired. I am not going out tonight, because I need to catch up on my sleep. Martini. Movie. Knitting. Tomorrow, a few of the kittens are driving up to Baltimore for Saturday Afternoon Margaritas: Baltimore Edition II! *woot* No plans for Sunday yet. Depending on our state of intoxication, we may all be spending the night in Baltimore. I'm looking forward to a mildly relaxing weekend. Yay. Oh, and *Happy Birthday Smooches to GayProf *

Weekend Update: Whole Lotta Luvin' Goin' On Edition

What a fun Memorial Day Weekend, Kittens! There was booze and fun and sex and booze and sex and food and fun and sex and booze and -Did I mention booze and sex?- and bittersweet good-byes ... Friday, I had planned to stay in and rest up, maybe watch a few movies and knit a bit. Well, Mike emailed to suggest happy hour ... I went home, made a martini, and waited for him to pick me up. We drove to his house, had some cocktails, and waited for his friend, Brian, to join us. Brian was late. So, we decided to skip happy hour and go out to dinner - Thai food. YUM. Mike drove me home around 10:30, I think. Saturday, I went to my 11AM hair appointment. I am blond again. YAY. I looks cute. YAY. I left the salon around Noon:30. I went to Best Buy to spend my $15 worth of Rewards Certificates. I bought 2 DVDS - Galaxy Quest (which I *heart*) and Monty Python and the Holy Grail Special Edition . Very excited. Then, I wasted time until meeting everyone for SAM at 3ish. SAM was awesom...

Holiday! Holiday!

*whew* I was almost late to work this morning ... Y came over last night, and, well, we got a little frisky this morning. Somehow, I managed to get here on time, difficult though it was. I watched The Good Girl last night. Jennifer Aniston was surprisingly good, as was Jake G (although that wasn't much of a surprise). I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. *woot* No big plans for tonight. I am thinking about staying in, watching movies, knitting and having a chill Friday night alone. I could be convinced to do a Happy Hour somewhere though ;-) I'm shutting down the hotline at 3 to give everyone a headstart on their long weekend. Aren't I the nicest supervisor EVER? Tomorrow, I have a hair appointment in the morning. Then, we will be gathering for Saturday Afternoon Margaritas around 3 to start celebrating Mike and Tomoko's birthdays. Y wants me to come to his place this weekend, so I might go over there on Saturday night. Sunday, I'm trying to get...

Ugh. Bugh. Fugh.

GAH. I've been trying to write a decent cover letter for two days now, and I can't. Everything I come up with is Crappy McCrapshispants. I have updated my resume. I have selected a few sample links. All I need is a cover letter. [Oh, this is in reference to this job .] G-forking-D cover letters. H8 them. Passionately. Also, I am trying to update EnviroWonk more regularly now. I need to get back in the Environmental Grooooooooove . I switched templates, which means all my linky goodness was lost. I'll work on rebuilding those at some point. Skip on over there to take a look. Tell me whachuthink. Tomokito came over last night to return my corkscrew. We had some wine and a nice chat. We will be having Saturday Afternoon Margaritas this weekend! *woot* I finished reading The Rug Merchant and wanted to type up a brief review today, but I left the book at home. I'll do that tomorrow (or tonight if I can get online). I suppose that's it for now. More la...

Snow and Margaritas

Yesterday afternoon, I met Tomoko, Robert and Darryl for margaritas! *woot* It was quite fun. While walking to the restaurant (Alero in Dupont Circle), I thought I saw a snowflake. "Impossible," I thought to myself. "It must be falling off a tree or something." Ha. I was soon proved to be mistaken. The snow fell quite furiously for awhile, accumulating about an inch or so while we ate and drank. and drank. and drank. After the snow stopped and the final pitcher was empty, we slid our way up to Fab Lounge. It was empty, but the beer was reasonably priced. Hmm ... Come to think of it, I believe I owe some people for the beverages. My walk home from the metro station was a little trickier than usual because of the recent dusting of snow. I'm glad I wore my snow boots! pab called as I slipped homewards. We will probably be meeting up later today. Meanwhile, I will be knitting, watching Pride and Prejudice , and lounging on the sofa. Happy President's Day! *smooc...
