OMG, Kittens!  Remember me?  How are you?  Is anyone still out there? My Exciting New Job started on the January 28th and settling into that has been busy busy busy.  I don't even know where to begin to start catching up on my life. So here are just some of the random things that have happened in the past two weeks that I can remember ... At some point, I had a fun little Adult Sleepover (without actually sleeping over) with K (remember him?).  He is still as enthusiastic as ever.  *rowr* The Little Red Car's battery has died.  And, I need to give it a jump.  But, that seems scary. So, I have been procrastinating. M (not the one in Vegas) decided he didn't want to hang out with me anymore.  But, now he has changed his mind. And, we are getting together on Sunday for a little Super Bowl Part for two.  So, that should be fun. This SuperHot guy I hooked up with about two years ago contacted me out of the blue.  But, I have ...

Weekend Update: Not Much of Nothing Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! I've had to "work from home" today. Tomorrow, I go back to work. On the one hand, I will be glad to be getting a paycheck. On the other of the hands, I am not looking forward to getting up at 5:15AM. Ugh. So. Friggin'. Early. Somehow, I suppose I will survive (and, more than likely, my survival will include the consumption of large quantities of caffeine). ANYWAYZ, my weekend ... It was a whole bunch of nothing ... the highlights being that on Saturday I met Ray for brunch in DC. AND, I managed to (1) not drink and (2) go home alone. Yay me! (Although I have to admit, brunches where I (1) do drink and (2) go home with someone tend to be a LOT more fun). Not that brunch with Ray wasn't fun. It was. It's always good to catch up with him. Once back in the Spring, I stopped by Pacers to pick up my Parkway Classic 10-Miler race packet. The shirt is REALLY nice, a New Balance running shirt. Sweet. For dinner, I made miso soup and...

And the Slog Continues

Image
Good Evening, Kittens. I totally meant to blog this morning, but -well, obviously- that didn't happen. So, what's been going on? I am still on LWOP, which means I am not getting paid. On Wednesday, I went to lunch with my co-worker (who is also on leave ... but will be going back to work on Tuesday. I may not. We work for different companies on different contracts in the same office. I should find out on Monday what is going on with my contract). We went to Mandalay. I had Noodle #1. OMG. So delicious. Then, I came home and took a nap. And talked to the most fabulous cuzin ever (or was that yesterday? hmmm ...). And, then, I did laundry. Oh, the good times. Yesterday, I did much of the same, minus the laundry and the talking to the cuzin and plus running 6.25 miles (and setting a 10K PR - 54:18. Go me!). Also, while making dinner, I managed to give myself a 2nd Degree steam burn on my left middle finger. Ouch. And, today, I updated my resume (and discovered a typo...

Two More Sleeps

Good Evening, Kittens. It's been quite a week thus far in Vutopia. Work has been a little busier than usual and when I get home I haven't really felt like doing much of anything. Tuesday, after work, I went for a 3(ish) mile run. When I got back from the run, I had a text message from a friend. Apparently, she and her boo, who live in DC, were in Downtown Silver Spring and they saw me run by. They suggested dinner. I figured I didn't have any other plan, except to blob on the sofa, so I agreed. We met at Adega around 7:45. I had a glass of wine, some eggplant fries, and a mixed green salad. I got home around 9. It was a fun, spontaneous way to fill the evening. Today, I'm not doing much of anything ... unless you count doing laundry as doing something. Tomorrow, I will be packing for Vegas. And on Friday, I will be flying to Vegas (after work). I am getting a little bit excited. I can tell because I haven't been sleeping very well. I hope it will be a goo...

Don't Fuck with Me, Fellas

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Not much of note has happened since my last post. Tuesday night was my building's Annual Shareholders' Meeting. And, guess who got elected to the Board of Directors? Oh, yeah. That would be me. Of course, considering that most of the previous board members were ineligible (have already served the maximum 2 consecutive years) and the high percentage of CRAZY that lives in my building, it was pretty much assured going in that I would be on the board this year. I did promise to rule with a gentle hand, sort of a benevolent dictator. And, then, I found out on Thursday that our building in on a list of buildings that *may* be fully or partially condemned for a major construction project. This project probably won't be happening for another few years (maybe more), but still ... GAH. Our building is in the "partial" category, which I think means that we will have to move out during the construction process and after the project is finished,...

Yet Another Reason Why I *Heart* M

Good morning, kittens. Remember M? The guy from the Summer of Fun, who I reconnected with later, but then he moved to Las Vegas (for a year), and is letting me use his car whilst he is away? Did that ring any bells? ANYWAY, Here is a snippet of our textual conversation last night ... it started with M M: The bird is in the wind again. V: The dog barks at the full moon. M: When the tides ebb, the baby fish can swim again. V: The old man speaks in a language only the young can understand. *hehe* Only 23 days until I see him in Vegas. Yay! Happy! Have a great day! *smooches*

Tomorrow's Post Will Be So Much More Interesting

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! We're going to save all of today's excitement (Very Special Guest Stars! Surprise Presentations! Meetings! Booze! VOMIT!) until tomorrow ... instead let us delve into the excitement of yesterday. Hmmm... I finished the 3rd book in Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, The Well of Lost Plots . It was a fun read. Next on the agenda is some book I just purchased from B&N about biomimicry. I can't remember the title. I did lots of work in preparation for our Earth Month activities at work. And, then I came home, where I drank a martini, made dinner, ironed shirts, and then ate the second to last (penultimate?) slice of my birthday cake. Dinner was delicious. I made a pasta salad with brussel sprouts, tomatoes, cucumber, cashews, carrots, and corn. Instead of dressing, I tossed it with Thai Basil Pesto which i made (and froze) last Fall. Surprisingly delicious. Srsly. Finally, here's a little photo I took of me last night depicting h...

The Busy. I Haz It.

Good Morning, Kittens. Well, it's almost time for 40th Birthday, Part II. My big party is tomorrow night. My brother and some of his friends are arriving this afternoon. Then, several other Very Special Guests will be hitting the DC area tomorrow. So excited. This party is going to be FAB-U-LOUS! Srsly. The DJ is booked. The food is ordered. Mike (Who Makes Cakes) is diligently working on my cake (we hope!). I can't wait! Yesterday was a day of preparation. I went to the grocery store. I did laundry. I cleaned and tidied parts of the abode. Around 3PM, SCGB and I walked up to McGinty's for beers and appetizers and to enjoy this gorgeous Spring weather. Mr. Fantastic joined us around 4. Then, we came home. I put the champagne on ice and began making a couscous salad for dinner. After eating, we watched I.Q. , the movie from the 90s about Albert Einstein's niece (Meg Ryan) and a mechanic (Tim Robbins). Today is Mr. Fantastic's birthday. I made him a H...

Um. Hi?

Good Practically Afternoon, Kittens. I am having a totally lazy (and slightly hungover) morning. Yesterday, I sent out a couple of resumes. And, then, I went to the pottery studio where I glazed two vases, a pitcher, a mug, and three bowls. Hurrah. On the way home, I stopped off at the Whole Foods and spent too much on groceries. I wanted frozen pizza for dinner. It was yummy. I ate cooked frozen pizza and watched The Scorpion King , starring The Rock. He is so tasty. And, then, I watched The Nanny Diaries . Today, I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch, but that has been postponed until Monday. Tonight, I'm meeting SCGB (and I think, Maura, the German's Girlfriend) at Adega for dinner. Mmm. Adega. No other weekend plans. I might go for a run this afternoon. I need to get outside. I also need to decide about the Annual Pumpkin Carving Party. Have a great day. *smooches*

Weekend Update: Recovery Edition

Image
Good morning, Kittens. I am pleased to report that I am on the Road to Recovery (wait, wasn't that a Crosby and Hope movie?) from my bout with Hong Kong Chicken Fever Monkey Pox Bacon Influenza. And, I'd better fucking be since all I did this entire weekend was eat, sleep, and drink (a lot!). Booze is good for the soul cold. I didn't go to the movies. I didn't go out dancing. I didn't go to any bars or fun restaurants. I didn't go to the pottery studio (until Sunday). I did nothing. All weekend. Good for the wallet. Bad for the social life. Hello, DC/Metro Area Friends, do you remember who I am? I used to go out on weekends. Srsly. Lessee. In other exciting news, at pottery, I trimmed two bowls and a vase. I still have one bowl to trim, but it wasn't quite ready. I am almost finished knitting the orange scarf. I hope to finish it today, because I want to give it to Mike (Who Makes Cakes) tomorrow after my hair appointment. Speaking of the Hair Appoin...

Busy Busy

Good Morning, Kittens. Lots of "things" going on today. Won't be posting anything substantive* until later this afternoon/evening. Stay tuned. *smooches* *Ha. As if I ever post anything substantive**. **Ha. As if I even know what "substantive" means***. ***"Substantive" is a word, right?

Lemon Tree Very Pretty

Image
And the lemon flower is sweet. But the fruit of the poor lemon Is impossible to eat. I grew up with Peter, Paul and Mary, listening to their albums on the first piece of furniture my parents bought as a married couple - an RCA stereo cabinet. That cabinet is in my living room now. When I lift the lid, I can smell the memories, and I'm back in our house in Murphy, flipping through albums ... Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, The Sound of Music , until I find Peter, Paul, and Mary . Green carpet. Plaster walls. Sooty fireplace. And the lemon tree. Peter, Paul sans Mary and the world is a little more empty. In other news, Boozy Lunch with Ms. Bluestocking was quite fun ... and boozy. I got to find out all about her hot new burning hunk of love. Plus, she read over my short story and gave some input on how to resolve the issue I have been having. I came home and took a nap. Wine at lunch time can do that to you. Before lunch, I mailed the two cute little baby hats I knitted re...

Good Morning, Kittens. How did it get to be Wednesday already? Where is this week going? Yesterday was SuperFun. I went to the bank. And, then, I went to the hardware store and had 40 gabillion keys made. I haven't been working on the short story. It is practically finished, except for one crucial scene. And, I don't know what happens in that one crucial scene. I tried to write through it but ended up writing around it, adding several paragraphs before and after whatever happens. *sigh* Then, we had our monthly board meeting. That was *so* much fun, because we discussed our budget for next year. Woo to the hoo. Lots of excitement today: Boozy Lunch at Adega with the Fab Clio Bluestocking . Laundry. Knitting. DVD watching. AND, maybe even Martini Time! Plus, hopefully finishing up my short story. Have a great day! *smooches*

Hello, Clay, My Old Friend

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Yesterday was a Day of Running Crappy Errands. Nothing of interest, really. I went to the bank to make a deposit of quarters for the co-op. Then, Whole Foods. Then, home, where I made more 2 more flat freezer bags full of Thai Basil Pesto. I also sowed some more lettuce seeds. As has been the case all summer, the first batch of seedlings were Beat Down by torrential rain. *sigh* Around 730PM, K-Factor and I headed over to pottery class. Yay! Pottery class. AND, I had a happy surprise. I found a cup that I had glazed at the end of the Spring session and forgotten about (pictured above). Here's the other side of it: I like it. The glaze is black and then the rim was dipped in white. I may keep it. During class, I threw a vase and a (rather large) mug. I forgot to take pictures though. Oops. I think I will be going to open studio on Thursday. So, I'll take a picture or two then. Once home, K-Factor and I had chips and salsa and margaritas wh...

Clay

Good morning, kittens. According to my friend, Nida, mercury is in retrograde and that's why I (we?) feel like crapola. Great. It's only going to last another week or so. That's a good thing. I was planning to do lots of job-related searching type things yesterday; however, that didn't happen. Instead, I wrote the first 3 pages of a short story that's been clanging around in my head for about 6 months. How did that take all day? Here're the opening paragraphs: Clay "Wedging is so sexual," Tina said, as her muscular, hairy arms kneaded the lump of clay. She was using the ram's head style to force out air bubbles. "I don't know what you mean," I replied. I had chosen the more delicate spiral wedging, which created a chrysanthemum-like pattern in the wedged clay. Tina stopped wedging for a moment. It's true. I couldn't relate wedging clay to sex, since, at the ripe old age of 32, I had never had it. Unless you count the ...

Drowning

Image
Rain. Gray. Cold. Jobless. Loveless. Last night, I dreamed that this random guy in a cafe called me "faggot" as I walked by. I turned and confronted him, "What did you say?" "Faggot." "What?" He leaned closer in to me. "Faggot." "Really? Are you gay, too? Do you have gaydar?" He looked confused and I woke myself up. Drowning. I'm almost out of gin ... and vermouth. I have no bourbon. On the bright side, chili-infused tequila makes a kick-ass mouth-tingling margarita. *smooches*

Itty Bitty Baby Hat

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Everyone glad to be back at work? Good! I knew you would be. I made a baby hat yesterday. It is itty bitty and will be winging its way to a friend in Atlanta as soon as I find her address. I have 3 other packages to mail today as well. I guess I'll get to the post office eventually. Other than knitting all day long yesterday, I didn't do much. Tomokito and family and I went to lunch at El Golfo. Spinach enchiladas. YUM. And, last night, K-Factor and SCGB came down to watch Paris Je'taime ... which I had seen before, but SCGB hadn't. Fun times, for sure. And, that's all the exciting news from this end. Have a great day. *smooches*

The Excitement of it All

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I was supposed to go for a run this morning ... but, I thought I would wait until this evening to see if the Eye Candy was any better then. What can I say? I needz motivation. Yesterday was chock full of fun and excitement. I applied for a job or two. I vacuumed. I planted some lettuce. I walked to the Borders to "buy" (using my Borders Reward Certificates) Whitney's new album, but they either didn't have it or were sold out. So, I walked over to Adega, ordered a glass of prosecco, and watched Episode 2 of Mad Men (season 3). It was fabulous. But, I can't talk about it, because BOSSY isn't caught up. I came home. I had a martini (yay!). Then, I started thinking about dinner. I had pasta with tomato and spinach and my Gray Pesto. It was delicious. I think the secret to stellar pesto is to add a chili pepper. Nomz. I spent the rest of the evening knitting (see picture) and watching movies. And drinking wine. No real plan...

Purple Pesto

Image
Good morning, Kittens! This sudden cool spell we are having is not making my basil plants very happy. So last night, I made pesto. First, I made it with sweet basil. Yum. Although it was a bit too salty. Then, I decided to go all crazy and use purple basil. Surprise. Purple Basil Pesto is kinda gray (see photo). Here's what I did ... 1 cup purple basil leaves 2 cloves garlic 1 thai dragon chili pepper (green) approx 1/4 cup of grated fulvi romano approx 2 tbsp (maybe more) pepitas (pumpkin seeds) 1/3 cup olive oil salt and puree the livin' Hell out of it. The end. Although it looks a little unappetizing, it tastes pretty good. Not much else happened. I did some co-op board stuff. I called about a job. I knitted. I watched movies. I had Martini Time. Typical day in the life. I didn't watch the Mad Men episodes. Might do that today. No other plans. Maybe laundry. Oh, I haz teh exciting life. Have a great day. *smooches*

Fall is in the Air

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Another day, another dollar. Climb outta bed and get yer lazy arses to work! Not a whole lot happened yesterday. I did manage to apply for a job. I finished my SuperSecret Knitting Project (well, almost ... i still have to weave in the ends and block). I started another knitting project using the leftover yarn. PLUS, the yarn for the baby blanket I'm going to knit the neighbors arrived. Later in the evening, K-Factor brought by a Mugiversary present (pictured). Yay! Booze! And, then, we went to the park to throw Frisbee. Good times. We both suck and have no aim. Once home, I popped in a movie (which irritated He Who Was Still in His Underwear and Hadn't Showered All Day). Around 10ish, I went upstairs and Tomokito and I finished off the last of the Chocolate and Cinnamon Basil Sorbet. Today, there is more knitting on the agenda. Plus, doing some co-op business. Plus, making a few job-related calls. Plus, catching up on the latest two episode...
