My Life as a Farmer

Good Morning, Kittens and Happy Fucking Friday!!   During my Unfortunate Unemployment, SCGB's S (formerly known as DUN) gave me a ginormous package of lettuce seeds with the note, "If you can't find a job, maybe you could become a lettuce farmer."  Haha.  Because we all know how lucrative a career in lettuce farming would be ...   I have tried growing lettuce since then, but everytime the little suckers sprouted, some Outdoor Creature nibbled them to stubs.  Boo on Outdoor Creatures!  This year, I am trying again.  And, look, so far no nibbling !  Here's some that I am trying to grow indoors (and will eventually transplant outside ... assuming I don't kill them).  If all is successful, there will be Salad for All!  YAY!   And, the weekend ... things are still in flux.  Mike (Who Makes Cakes) mentioned something about having a barbeque.  Don't know if that is happening.  AND, the Fabulous Dr. Mel and his spousal unit will be in town for the weeken...

Good Evening, Kittens. Guess who forgot to blog today? Yep. That would be me. Well, it's not that I "forgot" to blog per se ... it's more like I was actually busy in the morning (which is my regular blogging time) ... and then in the afternoon I was too braindead. Now, I am still braindead, but I thought I should give it the ol' college try. So, yesterday nothing exciting happened. I did laundry. I called my parents. I went to bed. This morning, I was stuck in a 2.5 hour Meeting of Clusterfuckery (also known as our weekly staff meeting). 'Twas awful. Soon after the meeting, we went to lunch. And then I did lots of work prepping for tomorrow. I'm having a guest speaker come in to talk about Wise Water Use. Should be fun. After work, I picked up my new contact lenses. Yay! Expect photos of a no longer bespectacled me ... assuming I can get the tricky little suckers in my eyes. I haven't worn contacts for a couple of years. I was also expect...

My Exciting Life

Good Morning, Kittens!   Yesterday, I ditched work a little early because I had an "appointment."  Which wasn't a lie.  I did have an appointment.  A hair appointment.  And, now, my hair looks fabulous.  Fab. U. Lous.  Srsly.  I know you want to see pictures.  So, here: I just took this one  (note the cute tie/shirt combo).   After being properly cut and colored, I met Mike (Who Makes Cakes) for a quick dinner at El Guapos.  Spinach Enchiladas.  Yum.   Unfortunately, I didn't get home until about 9:30.  Which means I had about 45 minutes to unwind before bedtime.  Ugh.    Oh, and I started reading "The House of Versace."  It's pretty entertaining thus far.   Today, I am hoping that (1) my new contacts arrive and (2) the cover I ordered for my nook is delivered.  So much excitement.  How do I stand it?   Have a great day! *smooches*

Blue and White

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! I spent most of the day yesterday blobbing on the sofa. Hurrah for rainy days off! In the morning, I went to Panera for a bite of breakfast, some coffee, and free internet. For some odd reason, my internet wasn't working. It seems to be fine now. *knocks on wood* After breakfast and web-surfing, I stopped by Whole Foods to pick up some necessities (mostly items to take for lunch this week). In the evening, K-Factor and I went to pottery class. It's the last "official" class of the semester. We still have a couple of more weeks to finish things up though. I picked up several finished pieces. Yay. Apparently, I was in a Blue and White Mood (also, if no one else is glazing, I am too lazy to mix up more than 2 different glazes). I totally love the platter I made (see above) ... and here's a group picture: Individual photos are on flickr . Eventually, I will include measurements in their descriptions. Hope you have a great day! *smooch...

Weekend Update: Panera Blogging Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! What a dreary, gray weekend. And, to top it all off, my intartubez are not working this morning. Thus, I am having breakfast and free 'netz at the local Panera. Who has all teh funz? That would be me. Oh, yeah. Anyway, Friday night was dull. Even though I was supposed to hang with Mike (Who Makes Cakes), my stomach was feeling all icky. So, after passing off his cake carrier and spending a few minutes scoping out teh hot guyz in Dupont Circle, I headed home ... where I blobbed on the sofa. Saturday was Co-op Yard Work Day. We weeded and mulched and cut back bushes and had a grand ol' time. Afterwards, I went to the eye doctor. On the plus side, my prescription hasn't changed in nearly 3 years. On the minus side, I am now $175 poorer. On the plus side, I will have new contacts come this Wednesday. Yayz. I can wear sunglasses again. Huzzah. On the way home from the eye doctor, I stopped at the Whole Foods and purchased myself a little pic...

Behold, What Light Through Yonder Window Breaks

Good Morning, Kittens.   Thanks for all of your kind comments on my previous post.  I am fine (if one defines "fine" to mean "a little pissed off").  I felt totally excluded from the break-up decision-making process. But, what's done is done.  And, it was a relatively fun three (or so) months.   Yesterday, I returned all of the stuff I had borrowed or he had left at my place.  And, I picked up a few things of mine.  I was hoping to get a CD of the pictures that Ray took at my birthday party.  However, even though I had texted him at around 10AM, when I got there at 5:45, he had still not bothered to burn the CD.  In fact, after I put down my stuff he said, "Oh, we should start burning your CD."   To which, I replied, "I don't have time to wait.  I have to meet a friend for dinner around 6, so don't bother.  I will get the photos from Ray."   Bleah.   He asked if I had anything to say.  I said no.  He asked what would happe...

All Good Things ...

Good Morning, Kittens. So, Mr. Fantastic and I broke up last night. Rather than go on about all the ways that Mr. Fantastic wasn't quite so fantastic, let's just say that VUBOQ saw this coming about 2 weeks ago (when Mr. Fantastic started acting all weird). And, although VUBOQ wanted to use dinner last night to discuss what was up, Mr. Fantastic thought it would be better to call 30 minutes before he was supposed to arrive, bail on dinner, and break up. OK. I am surprisingly not all that upset. I guess one gets tougher as he gets older. Sort of like steak. Or something. And, we can focus on all the positives that are coming out of it ... Hm ... Lessee ... Oooh. Oooh. I know! *waves hand* I will no longer have to pretend I like Loser Roommate/Best Friend and his equally as loser-y boyfriend. *whew* That is a total load off my mind. I already feel less stress lines appearing. Huzzah! Also ... I did not break the Vow of Alcohol-Free (the Rest of) April and (Most of) M...

Cranky

That is all.   (oh, and good morning, Kittens)   *smooches*

Manic Monday?

Good Morning, Kittens!   Can I just say right now that I love love love love love having every other Monday off?  Because I do.  I did all sorts of fun things yesterday.  I moved the litterbox from my bedroom into the spare room (aka BOSSY's Guest Room).  The litterbox had lived in my room since last summer, when Y moved in.  It is nice to have it back where it belongs (and to not smell teh kitteh litter while preparing for BeddyBye Time).   I also organized my chest of drawers.  And vaccuumed. And made vegetable stock, which I froze into ice cubes.   Then, I went for a run.   Later, I helped a neighbor get her new computer set up.   And, finally, I went to pottery class.  I trimmed my final four projects.  And I only forked up ONE!  Yayz.  Apparently, the kiln has been having issues, so nothing I glazed last week was fired (boo).  Hopefully, it will be up and running this week and I will have some finished stuff and some things to glaze for the final class.   No big...

Weekend Update: Not Over Yet, But Still ... Edition

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens. I know, I know ... the weekend isn't over yet, but not much has happened other than all my plans being dashed upon the Rocks of Fate. Totes gang aft agley , yo. Friday, I had a fun happy hour with Jerry. Afterwards, I was planning to walk over to Mr. Fantastic's place; however, it started raining. I called him from the metro and he was all "I have a headache. I'm feeling nauseous. I'm going to bed." So, I went home. I ate a little dinner and, then, went upstairs to visit SCGB and SCGB's S. She gave me a wonderful birthday present: Picnic Placemats. She sewed them herself. So cute! So practical! Must go on picnic soon! Saturday, I slept in (yayz!). Once up and aware, I went for a run. Then, tried to get in contact with Mr. Fantastic. He didn't get back to me for quite some time. Apparently, he's in the midst of a spur-of-the-moment family visitation crisis. Long story. Needless to say, my plans to go over in...

Alcohol-Free, Day 5,389 (or at least that's what it feels like)

Good morning, Kittens.   It's Friday!  *w00t!* And, it's an 8-hour day, which means that work ends at 4PM. AND, it's a 3-day weekend.  Huh-to the forking-ZZAH!   Last night, I did the unthinkable.  Instead of Martini Time, I went for a 30-minute jog.  What up with that?  This whole Alcohol-Free (the Rest of) April and (Most of) May thing has my priorities totally screwed up.   I also watched "The Music Man" ... it wasn't all that.   I have no exciting plans this weekend ... Happy Hour after work with a friend or two. I may (or may not) crash at Mr. Fantastic's pad.   Saturday, I want to do a little housework (depending upon where I crash, I suppose).  Then, in the evening, there is the potential of having a Movie Night at Casa de Senor Fantastico.   Sunday, I need to do a quick reconnaisance mission to the USGBC National HQ and a restaurant, Bread and Brew, in preparation for our "field trip" on Earth Day.  I think it might be fun ...

Alcohol-Free (the Rest of) April and (Most of) May Update

Good Morning, Kittens.   I'm on Day 4 of No Booze and let me just say ... it SUCKS!  It's not that I miss that comfortably numb feeling one gets from a stiff martini (or seven).  Rather, I miss the routine: the coming home, making a martini, fixing a snack, and reading all the blog posts I can't read at work because they are blocked.  *sigh*   I am (sort of) cheating on the No Internet After Work thing, too.  If I get home and get all my work done, then I allow myself to check email.  So, last night, after finishing laundry, ironing two shirts, reading for a bit, and making dinner, I treated myself to 30 minutes or so online before collapsing around 10PM.  At least I am online less.  And, I may have some sort of Weekend Rule which will allow me to be online for an hour or so on days i'm not working.  We shall see ...   In other news, my SuperBusy Day today became suddenly less busy by 8:30AM.  I had to postpone one of the events I planned (a guest speaker from U...

Gleeful

Good Morning, Kittens.   I hope you all caught Glee last night.  It was ... um ... pretty good?  The Canadian seemed a bit disappointed, saying they were trying too hard and going for the easy laughs (or something like that).  I thought it was fine.  The Sue Sylvester "Vogue" video was probably the best part.  And, of course, tt's always fun to hang out with K-Factor and the Canadian.   Prior to the party, Mr. Fantastic and I had a little spat.  Like all superheroes, even Mr. Fantastic has a weakness. For Superman, it is kryptonite.  For Mr. Fantastic, it is his loser roommate/best friend forever.    Last night, LR/BFF told Mr. Fantastic that he would be coming by to (I don't know) pick up some clothes?  Something.  Mr. Fantastic said that was fine and invited him to join us for our Glee festivities.   About 45 minutes before the party, Mr. Fantastic decided to lecture me on proper behavior towards LR/BFF. He was all "he pays rent, he has a right to b...

Day 2 of No Booze. Not That I'm Counting*, I Just Couldn't Think of a Better Title

Good Morning, Kittens.   I is tired.  OMG.  So. Very. Tired. And, I could also be cranky.  We shall see how that develops.   Last night, was the first Official Night of Alcohol-Free (the Rest of) April (and Most of May).  I did actually go online so that I could upload and post my <strike>12</strike> 10 of 12 post.  Sue me.    Some of you may be wondering about my decision to be Internet-Free in the evenings.  This is mainly because, as you probably know, the Intartubez is a Great Big Time Suck.  When I get home from work, I usually blob on the sofa, surfing teh 'netz.  This is bad.  I should be working on projects.  Reading books!  Knitting!  Remodeling my fucking kitchen! Cleaning!  Etc ...   So, we're trying to quit the Nighttime 'Net cold turkey.  We'll see how it goes.   After uploading my pix and heating up some leftovers for dinner, K-Factor and I went to pottery class.  There are only 2 more classes left this session.  Wah.  I do think I...

10 of 12: My Life is So Boring Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens. Here are my 12 10 photos from today (well, from the time I got up until I got home from work ... I forgot to take pictures in pottery class) ... My building in the Early Morning Sun ... also known as My Building After I Was Running for the Bus and Even Though the Driver Saw Me He Didn't Wait. Fucker. Waiting to board the Metro at Silver Spring Station. Changing Trains at Metro Center. Spending a little quality time with my Nook. Security barriers outside my building. Sometimes my job is BORING. And sometimes I get to spend quality time with ginormous firetube boilers. Ready to leave work. Pretty flowers on the walk home from the metro station. Sligo Creek in all it's wonderful green-ness. *smooches*

Weekend Update: Short Sexy Hair Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens. I know! A Sunday Post. What up with that? Well ... other than the fact that I am in Ironing Avoidance Mode *and* that tomorrow is 12 of 12, I had a little time. So, I thought I'd type up a little update. You know how that goes. Friday night was my "alone night" ... I ate guacamole and chips. SCGB came down for a chat. It was fun. Saturday, I blobbed. Like, seriously, blobbed. It was AWESOME. Then, I got ready to go to my friend's Cherry Blossom Party. That was some boozy good times. The party was awesome. Jerry has some wonderful friends, like George the SuperCute, But Unfortunately Straight, Dentist. And, Mark (who as you may recall, I used to date) was there with his new beau. I will be kind (I know! SHOCKING!) and say that he seems like a very nice guy. Of course, because Mark was going to be there, I wore extra cute jeans. Behold! Jealousy Jeans: Haha. See what you're missing, mister? Anyway, I seem to have over-imbibed...

Fantasticness

Good Morning, Kittens and Happy Friday!   Yesterday was SuperBusy at work.  We have kicked off our monthlong celebration of Earth Day.  It's going to an exciting month of activity for sure.    After work, I metro'ed over to Mr. Fantastic's apartment.  We had wine on the roof of his building and then he made dinner.  And, then, there was a little somethingsomething.  One of the many nice things about staying over at his place during the week is that I get to sleep an extra 45 minutes and still make it to work on time (and that includes getting a little piece of morning nookie AND having him make coffee for me while I'm in the shower).   Did I mention that he puts the coffee in a to-go cup so I can drink it on my walk to the station?   Oh, yeah.  Mr. Fantastic?  He can be fantastic.   As for my weekend, I dont have too many plans.  I might do happy hour or drinks at some point tonight with SCGB.  Saturday, my friend, Jerry, is having a party followed by dancing...

I Totally Lied About This Post Being More Interesting

Good Morning, Kittens! So, yeah, BOSSY ? She's in Casa de VUBOQ right. this. minute. Asleep. Like a little angel (I assume, because the door to BOSSY's Guest Room is closed). BOSSY's No Book Tour DC Meet-up was so much fun. Shallowgal was there (and she really did go to Nicaragua for Spring Break. I saw photos!)! And Lumpyhead's Mom ! and some other bloggers whose links I haven't found yet ... like, Mary and Laura and Jill and Deeeeeeeeeee-ohn and Lauren (who drove all the way from Annapolis, yo!) and did I leave anyone out? Hmm .... I don't think so. And, guess who did not take a single picture? Yeah. That would be me. Oops. My bad. But everyone else did. Go to their blogs (which I haven't linked to, so good luck!) and look at all the fun times which were had! Srsly. Fun times! It totally made me forget my craptastic day of clusterfuckery at work. Yayz. Grrlpower and beer (and fried pickles), that's all you need to forget your woes....

Tomorrow's Post Will Be So Much More Interesting

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! We're going to save all of today's excitement (Very Special Guest Stars! Surprise Presentations! Meetings! Booze! VOMIT!) until tomorrow ... instead let us delve into the excitement of yesterday. Hmmm... I finished the 3rd book in Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, The Well of Lost Plots . It was a fun read. Next on the agenda is some book I just purchased from B&N about biomimicry. I can't remember the title. I did lots of work in preparation for our Earth Month activities at work. And, then I came home, where I drank a martini, made dinner, ironed shirts, and then ate the second to last (penultimate?) slice of my birthday cake. Dinner was delicious. I made a pasta salad with brussel sprouts, tomatoes, cucumber, cashews, carrots, and corn. Instead of dressing, I tossed it with Thai Basil Pesto which i made (and froze) last Fall. Surprisingly delicious. Srsly. Finally, here's a little photo I took of me last night depicting h...

Busy Little Bee

Good morning, kittens!   Yesterday was chock full of busy-ness.  Plus, I got to sleep in!  'Til 9!  It was lovely.  Once up, I tidied the living room, cleaned the kitchen, vacuumed, and worked on straightening my bedroom.   Then, I did a load of laundry.  And walked to the bank, likker store, and Whole Foods.   Laundry finished, I made the beds.  Clean sheets rock!   After taking a nice little nap (yay!  naps!), I did some yard work.  I raked out the garden area, weeded, cut back some dead bushes (I think the 55" of snow did in our rosemary bush *sigh*), and planted some wildflowers and lettuce seeds.   Then, it was Martini Time!  Yay!   After Martini Time and dinner, K-factor and I went to pottery class.  I made this and this .  I haven't glazed anything in awhile, but that is because nothing has been bisque fired in awhile.  I wonder if the kiln is broken?  Hopefully, next week there will be lots of fun glazing to do.   Once home, I talked to Mr. Fantast...

Weekend Update: Zombie Jesus Edition

Image
Good morning, Kittens! And, on the fourth day (b/c he was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hungover on the third day), VUBOQ rose from the dead. He is risen. Hallelujah. So, my weekend ... Friday, after a very non-productive day at work, I met Mr. Fantastic at the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum. I love the courtyard there . Then, we met my friends, Mike and Matt, for a delicious dinner at Jaleo (mmmm ... potatas bravas). And, after dinner, we walked down to the tidal basin for a night-time view of the cherry blossoms. Very pretty. Once back at Mr. Fantastic's apartment, I opened a package I had shipped there: the new backplate to my nook! It's ORANGE ! Luvz it. (Many thanks to Scott, who sent me the giftcard I used to purchase it) We lounged around for a bit, and then I headed home. I had a few errands to run and I had to get ready for a crazy night out ... Eric from Baltimore was coming down to go to Town. Yayz. Anyway, once home, my errand running plans were thrown...

Casual Good Friday

Good Morning, Kittens!   It's Friday!  yayz!  Can I just say that two 5 day workweeks in a row SUCK?  Bah.  Am very looking forward to this three day weekend!  And, as I replied to my co-worker who asked, "What are you doing this weekend,"  I plan to celebrate the Death of Our Lord Jesus the Christ by drinking 'til I vomit and pass out.  On the third day, I will arise.   Tulips!  Butterflies!  Sunshine!   It's a casual Good Friday, and I'm sporting the SuperCute orange shirt the Canadian brought me from India .  Canadians are so friendly AND giving.   After work (*fingers crossed that we may get out early*), I'm heading to the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum.  Then, Mr. Fantastic and I are meeting Mike and Matt at Jaleo for dinner.  I have a very generous gift card from my parents to use.  Yayz.  Free dinner on the folks.  Huzzah.   Saturday, we're going clubbing!  Who's coming with?   And, finally, a little bit of a ra...

Alas Poor Blender

Good Morning, Kittens.   Aaaaaaand, another blender in the VUBOQ Household bites the dust.  You may remember that my first blender split in half after slipping from my hands and dropping all of about two inches into my (apparently very hard) sink.    Now, my replacement blender broke whilst I was making a smoothie last night.  Let it be a warning to you all, kittens: Do not try to make a smoothie while multitasking, because you just might forget that you left a spoon in the blender.  Only to be reminded that you may have done so after you've turned the blender on, walked away, heard a strange clanking noise, saw the bottom of the blender shatter, and watched a mixture of orange juice, yogurt, kale, and spinach spray all over your kitchen.   Who knew that trying to be healthy could be so DANGEROUS?   Not much else happened yesterday, other than laundry and ironing.  Woo hoo.   Today, I'm meeting Mr. Fantastic for dinner.  Not sure where yet.   And, then, tomorrow i...
