Weekends Update: Catching Up Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! Let's play catch-up!  Two weekends ago, I flew to North Carolina.  It was my Dad's 75th Birthday.  So, after work (and after a couple of martinis), I caught a plane to my brother's place in Greensboro.  Then, the next morning, we drove the 3.5 hours to my parents' town.  There we had a lovely lunch with about 10 of my parents' friends in the beautiful (if somewhat stinky) town of Canton.  Canton's Paper Mill  After lunch, we just chilled at the parents' house and eventually had dinner at a Thai restaurant.  It was not that great.  It started snowing.  "The snow's supposed to stop around 6PM," Dad said.  It snowed all night.  The View from My Parents' Deck Because it was (a) snowy and (2) 24 degrees F outside, I decided to wait to do my 11 mile run until I got to Greensboro.  Which is what I did ... And, then, I had an early dinner and several cocktails with my brother, his gf, and the...

Nothing Ventured ...

Good Morning, Kittens! Well, I had a full Monday off (yay! two down, two more to go!). Sometimes, I love my work schedule. ANYWAY, so, first, I went for a 3.51 mile run. Then, I showered, ate, and headed off to the dentist. Now, I have CLEAN TEETHEZ! and, no cavities or major issues (other than the possible root canal which has been lingering since last year and removal of wisdom teeth. however, with careful brushing/flossing/general teethez care, my dentist does not seem overly concerned about the wisdom teeth. yay). While at the dentist, it started to snow. WTF? I mean, ok, it is January, but, over the weekend, it was, like, 60 degrees. GAH! This is the kind of weather that gives you the cold/flu/crud/ick/ague. So, I wandered through the snow to the Trader Joe's. I did crazy shopping (and used a gift card I got for Xmas from the Parental Units). Then, more snow-trudging, stopping at Subway for a very late lunch, more snow-trudging, finally homing, napping, eating, dri...

Sick (with Special Appearance by Stella)

Good Afternoon, Kittens. On my way home from Philly on Monday, I felt the tell-tell tickle of a cold coming on. Tuesday, when I woke up, it was worse, but not so bad I couldn't go to work. so I did. Then, I came home. Late. Because the Red Line was a ginormous clusterfuck. I had to rush to get to my co-op's Annual Shareholder's Meeting. Fortunately, I was not elected to the Board. yay! Of course, this means that I will most assuredly have to be on the Board next year. I went to bed early. When I got up, I thought I heard snow/sleet. I looked out the window, and I was correct. A couple of inches of slush and stuff covered the ground. Also, I felt like poop. After having some ginger lemon tea, I decided I couldn't make it to work. So I called out and went back to bed. I woke up at 11:30. Since then I've been feeding my fever to starve my cold. Or whatever. I've been eating a lot. I tried to do laundry, but it seems *BOTH* washers in our laundry room ...

Holiday Update: Now With Some Pictures Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! And, here is my eagerly awaited Holiday Update with Photos. Yay! So, my trip began, as some trips do, at Dulles International Airport, where after passing through security (and having to remove my sweatshirt ... y'know, because their high-tech metal detectors can't "see" through thick jersey?), I boarded the cute little train to Terminal A. As I exited the train, I thought, "Oh, shit. I had a rollybag carry-on." Yes, your hero, left one of his bags at the security checkpoint. Oops. Of course, I have an excuse (or two). 1. I was pissed at having to remove my sweatshirt, so the gathering of all my scattered clothes combined with having to get dressed distracted me, and (b) I very rarely have a carry-on rollybag. Normally, I have one carry-on because I've checked a bag (one of the perks of business travel = they pay for that checked bag! Yay! More shoes for my tripz!). ANYWAY, so I had to schlep back to security to get my b...

12 of 12: snOMG Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens. My 12 of 12 photos aren't all that interesting this time. It's hard to be fun and exciting when you don't leave the house 'til noon. So, Mr. Fantastic and I blobbed around his apartment (no pictures). Then, we walked to the Diner in Adams Morgan. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with feta, spinach, and tomato. Mr. Fantastic had pancakes, eggs, and toast. I also had coffee. Mmm. Coffee. On the walk back to his place, we saw this bike. When we returned to his place, my New Boots had arrived (which I had only ordered yesterday. Zappos? It rocks). How cute are these boots? Then, I headed back to Silver Spring. This is the tree in front of my building. And this is the parking lot. I took a long nap with Isabella, and, then, I flipped through cookbooks to find something to cook for Valentine's Day dinner. Icicles! Sidewalk! And that was my day. Plus or minus a few cocktails. *smooches*

Good Morning, Kittens. I'm heading back to Silver Spring today. Yay! I am so ready to be home. Not that spending the entire week at Mr. Fantastic's has been bad. But, as Dorothy Gale said, "There's no place like home." I am sure Miss Isabella is getting lonely. Yesterday, after blobbing around the apartment for a bit, we decided to go out for lunch. Margaritas, baby! Then, we did a little shopping (chocolate!) and headed back to the apartment. We watched movies and I ordered a pair of boots (which are supposed to be delivered today. Crazy!). Still no sign of my Nook though. I have emailed B&N service center to see what is up with that. The delivery tracker hasn't changed since 2AM February 9th. That is forked up. No big weekend plans. Mr. Fantastic will be heading up to Silver Spring on Saturday night, I believe. I guess we will cook dinner on Valentine's Day. and that will be about it. Monday, even though it's a holiday, I may go to ...

Snow Boots

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Not that I need new snow boots (I have a rockin' pair of Doc Martens ... who knew they even made snow boots?), but I've spent the past week trolling Zappos ... I totes love these two pair: Polo Ralph Lauren Ranger Sherling Rolldown and Polo Ralph Lauren Tavin Rolldown If you had unlimited funds, which one would you buy? (and you can't say "both") Lessee ... I am still snowbound in Adams Morgan. I left work last Friday at noon and haven't been back. And, I don't have to go back until Tuesday. Oddly enough, since I'm going a little stir crazy, I'm thinking about heading to the office later today or tomorrow. What up with that? And, where is my NOOK? WHERE? It's been in Columbia, MD since February 9th according to the tracking website. Anyone want to drive out to Columbia? I hear the snow isn't bad there. Yesterday, I did my taxes (partially. I realized I'm missing two forms). Which reminded me that I need ...

Blizzardlicious!

Good Snowy Morning, Kittens. I'm still hunkered down at Mr. Fantastic's. Yesterday, I managed to make it out to Silver Spring. I cleaned out my refrigerator (three days with no power = gross cheese. srsly). I created a warm little blanket house for Isabella. I figured out what was up with my apartment's electricity (tripped breakers in the boiler room). And, I moved the rest of Jasha's stuff up to SCGB's apartment (where we thought he would be warmer). Then, I met SCGB for a late lunch at Adega (tomato! basil! soup!). Once we finished, I headed back to DC to await Snowpocalypse Part II (or are we at III now? srsly. Too much snow). Last night, Mr. Fantastic's roommate stopped by. I won't say much but Much Drama ensued. Watching the interaction of those two was certainly interesting ... Mr. Fantastic trying to be a "nice guy", Roomie being manipulative. Quite interesting. The sad thing is that Mr. Fantastic considers someone who treats h...

Snow Day!

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! I'm off to work today ... but, yesterday, I "worked" from home ... I did actually do some work. But, I also took naps. And knitted. And, then, K-Factor and the Canadian BF wanted to play Death Croquet. in the snow. It was fun. And snowy. And cold. And I think Eddie Bauer did not design their croquet set for cold weather use. Here we are, intrepid Snow Death Croquet Players: Then, I was reminded by a co-worker that tomorrow is my office's Round Treats Holiday Celebration. I thought it was Wednesday. Had to run to Whole Foods to buy the ingredients for gingerbread-hazelnut bourbon balls : Have great day! *smooches*

Weekend Update: Blizzard Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I am "working" from home today. Oh, yeah. Federal government closed, but I can't take the day off. Must continue to slave for the Man. *sigh* So, you may have heard this already, but we got a s**tload of snow on Friday. No official Sligo Co-op totals, but probably somewhere between 16"-20". I am kind of annoyed because our new snow removal contractors only showed up at the beginning of the storm and haven't been seen since. Gah. ANYWAY ... Great fun was had by the residents of Sligo Co-op. On Friday night, I had cocktails with Tomokito in her apartment. SCGB joined us later as we sipped negronis and watched the cars slide into each other on the snowy hill in front of our building. Saturday afternoon, we gathered at K-Factor's apartment for food, games, and drinks. Lots of drinks. In fact, so many drinks, that we created the First Ever Sligo Snow Triathalon (loosely based on my pottery teacher's Greenbelt Triathalon...

But I Wanted 31

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! Snow day is over. Hurrah! In the morning, I helped shovel the sidewalks (ugh! Manual Labor!). Then, I had to trudge through the ice and snow and muck and slush to the Whole Foods. And, while I'm thinking about it, can I just ask: Why is it so hard for people to shovel their sidewalks? I mean, really ... they can shovel their driveway so that not a single flake of snow is on it, but the sidewalks are never even touched. What is it? Do they not know they have a sidewalk? So frustrating ... but at least I have good snow boots. After Whole Foods, I came home, made a quick lunch, then, went for a walk in Sligo Creek Park with SCGB, the German, and the German's SuperFierce GF. Once we got home, we had hot chocolate. Mmm. Then, I watched Doctor Zhivago . "You, my dear, are a Slut." Pottery class was cancelled. *sad face* Instead, I made a yummy Thai Green Curry: And drank beer. And watched more movies. Today, after doing a little job search...

Weekend Update: What? You Were Expecting Snow Pix Edition

Image
Good morning, Kittens! I'm sure I'll be posting some snow pix later on in the day (since I have nothing better to do with my time), but I thought you'd like to be greeted this morning the same way I was on Sunday morning. Anyway, the weekend was fun. Friday night, after having a few glass of pre-party wine with SCGB, we went to one of the neighbor's for Game Night and take-out Chinese. I played Settlers of Catan for the first time ever ... and totally. kicked. ass. I rock the Stratergery Games! Go me! Saturday morning? Slightly overhung. *oog* In the afternoon, I met Mike (He Who Bakes teh Cakes) at Takoma Park Metro Station and we went to the Takoma Park Film Festival , which one of my neighbors organizes. It was fun. The session we went to was themed around "Consumption." So there was a documentary about obesity, one about a bicycle co-op, and one about Stuff (which was a good introduction to some complicated issue, but I found it to be somewhat s...
