Government Efficiency

Image
I noticed around 11:30 this morning that our call volume had decreased significantly. As it turns out, the EPA decided to switch the hotline to the new contractor ... even though the new contractor isn't supposed to take over until August 1st. Plus, they haven't completed training and have no idea how to answer the questions. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. *sigh* In more hopeful news, I have submitted 4 job applications in the past three days (2 federal government, 1 DC government, and one with a nonprofit association). Maybe something good will turn up soon :-) *smooches*

Corporate Has Weird Logic

My boss emailed me this morning in reference to our annual pay/merit increase: "Since the increase will be for one month, Corporate has only given us a 3% increase instead of 4%." OK. My first thought was that, well, since our contract ends in one month, any increase is nice. But, then, I thought "WTF." I mean, really, not giving an extra 1% because it's only for one month seems kind of petty. A 1% increase works out to an extra $10 per month (maybe less, I haven't bothered to do the actual math). Is the company in such dire straits that they can't afford that? Also, knowing that we are all looking for new jobs, couldn't they give us the highest possible amount so that we have that extra little bargaining chip with our new employers? Not to mention that it could also affect the amount of our unemployment benefits if we don't find a job. The Corporate Office is always trying to sell the line that they *care* about their employees, but a move like ...

The Big O

Image
About 6 months ago (I think), my company's suite was reorganized into a smaller area. The former part of our office is now being remodeled for another company. I was talking to my boss yesterday and said that it would be neat to have the O from our company's logo which was still on the wall in our former office. When I got to my desk this morning, guess what was on it? The Big O. Yayz. My boss gave me the Big O. I am so lucky to have such a great boss :-) See: In other exciting news, I did laundry last night. There was a kickass thunderstorm. I love it when the thunder/lightning is so close it sets off car alarms. Later, DUN and AtWN came over for two-bite cupcakes and a very special viewing of Singin' in the Rain . Ah, Cyd Charisse get off that mantelpiece. You're such a shock there. We need a clock there.* After they left, I was getting ready for bed when Y called. His paper presentation went well. There was interest in his results/research. He mentioned something ab...

The Cubicles Have Ears

One of the new people on another hotline in my office, consistently says, "Let me transfer you to the National Lead Center," even though he has been told by his supervisor many times that it is the National Lead Information Center. Drives me batty. And he doesn't even work with me. Maybe I'm just hormonal. Of course, his supervisor is the person who calls the forward slash (/) in web addresses a "backslash" (\). (^-^)/~~ I think I'm teetering on the edge of a Career/Life crisis. To prevent anything rash from happening (i.e. throwing my computer out the window and running out of the office), I am not thinking about it. Best not to dwell. However, I need to jumpstart my job hunt. Either that or land a handsome, wealthy SugarDaddy who can support me and my pottery-making/knitting/bad short story writing ways. If you know anyone who fits that description, please let me know. I'd be willing to put out. Srsly. I can has sugardaddee.

Not the Way I Wanted to Start Out the New Year

Every. single. person. on my hotline called in sick today. Fuckers. Lessee ... one has a "family emergency" [mm.hm. I believe that about as much as I believe that he had a "headache" on Monday] ... another one is sick (sick of work? sick that her 2 week vacation ended?) ... another one has "leg problems" ... another one has transmission problems (but can come in at noon:30. oh joy). And, my boss? He also has car problems. Yeah. Thanks for leaving me here all by myself today. Bastards. It's not like I don't have things planned for the day (oh, I don't know, like, maybe getting a friggin' lunch break). I really don't need this crap. I think I may take a half-day on Friday now. In other news, I'm working on my New Year's Resolution of becoming More Like Martha. I'm developing a weekly 30 minute cleaning schedule. This week, my goal is to get my bedroom and closets sorted and organized. My 30-minute regimen will sta...
