Resolved

Hi, Kittens! It's the New Year!  2014!  How the fuck did that happen?  And where did all these eye wrinklez and gray hairz come from? ANYWAYz, it is the time when one makes resolutions for the New Year (2014!*).  And, here are my New Year's (2014!) Resolutions (in no particular order): 1.  Last year, I read 10 new books (I re-read a lot of other books, but only 10 new ones).  In this New Year (2014!), I resolve to read *at least* TWELVE NEW BOOKS!  I have already started with "Ender's Game," which a couple of my co-workers will not. shut. up. about.  So far, it is not too bad.  Yay!  2.  Last year, I ran 97 times for a total of 431 miles.  This year (2014!), I will run 500 miles and I will run 500 more.  Just to be the man to run 1000 miles to your door.  A-hahahaha.  I kid.  I resolve to run 100 TIMES!  And, if those 100 times total to 500 miles?  BONUS!!! 3.  Last year, I blogged 3...

I've Been Through the Desert on a Horse with No Name

Good morning, Kittens. Everyone happy to be back at work? Slaving away for the Man? Make sure you file your form 84-3Cs correctly and in triplicate! Meanwhile, my Anti-Social Weekend was quite fun! After having a super busy New Year's Eve/Day, I was perfectly happy to sit at home, blobbing on the sofa and knitting for most of the time. The main event for Saturday was a wonderful lunch with Tomokito at El Golfo, followed later in the evening by martinis and Steel Magnolias with SCGB. After which, I broke one of my martini glasses. Boo. Hiss. Yesterday, I ventured into Downtown Silver Spring to look for an interesting book and some shoes. I found neither. Later, I met SCGB at Adega for dinner. Then, we came home, shared *another* bottle of wine, and watched the Romanian abortion movie, 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days . It's an amazing flick. Watch it (if you haven't already). It's not nearly as depressing as I expected it to be. Also, I began working on The List ... which is ...

I Can Haz New Table

Good Morning, Kittens! It's a busy day in Vutopia. At 8PM, thousands hundreds dozens a couple of people will descend upon Casa de VUBOQ for a New Year's Eve Party to end all New Year's Eve Parties. There will be champagne! There will be food! There will be GAMES! There will be PRIZES! AND, there will be Fabulous Parting Gifts (if VUBOQ can pull himself up off the sofa and go to the store)! Before that happens, though, I have to ... (a) clean, (b) clean some more, (c) do some cleaning, (d) think about cleaning some other things, and (e) do Mountains of Laundry. Oh, and did I mention that I need to clean? So, yesterday, I went to the Whole Foods (Gift Cards Rock!) to buy some party foods! Cheese! Olives! MOTHERFORKING (gotta keep it clean for the kiddies) SALSA! Then, I made dinner. See: Please note the New Dining Nook Table! And, um, Hello, Chef's Little Helper! I had intended to make a recipe I printed out awhile back off of Epicurious, Sweet Potato Salad with Chili...

Not the Way I Wanted to Start Out the New Year

Every. single. person. on my hotline called in sick today. Fuckers. Lessee ... one has a "family emergency" [mm.hm. I believe that about as much as I believe that he had a "headache" on Monday] ... another one is sick (sick of work? sick that her 2 week vacation ended?) ... another one has "leg problems" ... another one has transmission problems (but can come in at noon:30. oh joy). And, my boss? He also has car problems. Yeah. Thanks for leaving me here all by myself today. Bastards. It's not like I don't have things planned for the day (oh, I don't know, like, maybe getting a friggin' lunch break). I really don't need this crap. I think I may take a half-day on Friday now. In other news, I'm working on my New Year's Resolution of becoming More Like Martha. I'm developing a weekly 30 minute cleaning schedule. This week, my goal is to get my bedroom and closets sorted and organized. My 30-minute regimen will sta...

It's the End of the Century!

Or maybe it isn't. Whatever. One of us is a little overhung and doesn't really care ... My New Year's Eve Champagne Tasting was a total blast. 7 people came. We started with a delicious (if I do say so myself) Cranberry Champagne Punch, which I modified from a recipe I found on line. Here's how I made it (try it at home, kids!): 64 oz. cranberry juice 2 cans of ginger ale 1 pint raspberry sorbet 1 bag frozen raspberries 1/2 bag frozen cranberries 1 bottle dry champagne (I used Barefoot Bubbly Brut Chardonnay Champagne) Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures, so you'll just have to imagine the good times which were had. I crawled into bed around 3AM ... *oog* Here's a list of the champagnes (and sparkling wines) we tasted: Sofia Blanc de Blanc (It comes in cans! Tres chic!) Finca La Linda Extra Brut Chardonnay (from Argentina. Too extra brut) Marwood Brut Sparkling Wine (from Italy. Sweet and fruity) Tenuta S. Anna Prosecco (also from Italy. Unanimously the gro...
