Sickbed Update: I'm Sick Edition

Image
*cough* *cough* *hack* *sneeze*, Kittens! And, greetings from my Sickbed!  I have been homebound since Wednesday after work.  Slight fever.  Bad cough.  Gross, snotty nose.  It has been really good times. Also, I am bored. I have read the entire Percy Jackson series.  I watched all three Lord of the Rings movies (extended editions!).  I am still flipping through the cocktail book pictured above, which Tomokito gave me for Xmas.  And, I'm also still looking through the vegetarian cookbook Michelle M sent me.  Yay!  I purchased "Cloud Atlas" for my nook.  I read "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoe" by the same author and really enjoyed it.  I haven't started reading "Cloud Atlas" yet, because I need to finish "Diet for a Hot Planet" first.  But, mostly, I blob on the sofa (or my bed), drinking Magic Elixir, blowing my nose, coughing like there's no tomorrow, and sometimes falling asleep. I was too sick to go to "...

Mid-Afternoon Experimentation Teaser

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens. Not much reaction (yet) to my previous post ... oh, well. VUBOQ is getting boring. And he's OK with that. Anyway, I was playing around with the "Best Shot" feature on my digicam, taking a photo of the same items using each Best Shot setting. Here's the result: The Settings from top to bottom, left to right: Portrait, Scenery, Portrait with Scenery, Children Candelight Portrait, Party, Pet, Flower Natural Green, Sundown, Night Scene, Night Scene Portrait Fireworks, Food, Text, Collection Monochrome, Retro, Twilight Is fascinating, no? and can you guess where I will be going this weekend?

QUIZ TIME!

4 Stores! 6 Photos! All taken within hip, happenin' downtown Silver Spring. Can you guess which photos were taken where? Have fun! And, yes, the Rudy Giuliani Countdown to Victory Calendar (only $4) completely cracked me up.

Drowning in a Cesspool of Boredom

Image
So, it's time to snap a few photos and have a little vote. Which pic should be VUBOQ's new profile photo? One: EEK! Crazy Eyes! Crazy Eyes! Two: I'm eating healthy (note orange peels in the trash) and O!M!G! I need to get my ass to the salon. Three: Note the Blogger Dashboard and current profile pic in background. Four: Who is that mysterious man in black? Five: So bored. So dying. Vote early. Vote often. Leave comments.

Multilingual Me

If today were moving any slower, time would be flowing backwards [a la Superman: The Movie when he starts flying around the Earth really fast in the opposite direction of its rotational spin to make time move backwards and thus save the life of the already dead Lois Lane (Margot Kidder, Best Lois Lane EVER. Discuss!] Would that really work? I mean, wouldn't the inertia caused by the Earth suddenly spinning backwards cause all sorts of havoc? And even if the Earth survived that, would time start moving backwards simply because the rotation switched directions? What does Stephen Hawking have to say about this? Allrightythen, that was a hell of sidetrack. Um. I'm bored. So I started counting the number of languages in which I could count to three. It's not very many: English (duh) Bahasar Indonesian French Japanese Latin Mandarin Chinese Spanish I can also say "Where is the bathroom" in Tagalog (or is it Cebuano? I can't remember). Not that I'll ever be abl...

Yeah, so the Fork Me! Lego Man* was a tad on the creepy side. So, here's SuperCute Me and the Fall Foliage! Suck it, Princess! Meanwhile, I have nothing really to blog about other than I'm bored and I have somewhere between 8 and 13 people coming to my house tomorrow and I've realized that (a) I may not have enough rice [Fortunately, Tomokito may let me have a bit of her rice stash] and (b) I have no non-alcoholic beverages. I guess I'll be running to the store on Thanksgiving morning, b/c I sure as heck ain't going there tonight (Can we say MADHOUSE?). Either that or non-drinkers (what up with that?) will have to make do with water. I also bought some two-bite brownies for tomorrow. They are sitting here. Beside my desk. Calling out "Eat me, VUBOQ. Eat me" with the quiet desperation of two-bite brownies who want to be eaten. Now. Must. Resist. *Maybe this one is a little better?

Like, Y'know, Like, Um

Here's is a list of some words that don't appear in the King James Version of teh Bible (courtesy of the BibleGateway search function ): stapler scissors coffee buttsecks cheezburger [Jesus can't haz cheezburger!] inspire porn dandelion fantabulous sturgeon madonna spiral wedging (per request by Ms. Clio Bluestocking ) and, a word that only appears once: James 2:2-4 (King James Version) For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing , and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become* judges of evil thoughts? Teh Bible h8s teh gayz [and apparently teh metrosecksuals]. *are become?

Bitter Like Chocolate

I don't know what made me think of this, but I remember back in elementary school we had to write a recipe for ourselves ... similar to this link: http://www.pocanticohills.org/sbarra/01/recipe.htm (to which I don't want to provide linky goodness, b/c I'd rather not have a bunch of 3rd graders or whatever stumbling upon this blog ... since I'm not always safe for kids, y'know.) So, here's an updated Recipe for VUBOQ: Let me know if the images are unreadable/don't embiggen and I will try to enlarge them. In case you can't read the above ... here it is again: VUBOQ (vegetarian) 3 oz baking chocolate 1 cup sugary *smooches* a whole lotta likker ( gin is preferred , but vodka will do) a pinch of salt (more if you like your VUBOQ salty) a couple of dashes of sarcasm, intelligence, and bad fashion sense a lot cheese Mix well. Pour into a well-greased VUBOQ-shaped springform pan [ otherwise I might not COME OUT ]. Bake for 37 years at 350 degrees. Cool To dec...

Most. Boring. Day. Ever. And isn't it interesting that all the coffee beans have sunk to the bottom? I found a recipe for Summer Vegetable Stew , which looks good. I think I'm going to make that. Any suggestions for side dishes? I already have a big ol' tub of double fudge brownie ice cream for dessert. Mmmm.

My Lunch from Hell

Image
My lunch today consisted of a Slice of Satanic Cheese Pizza and Fallen Angel French Fries . How do I know this? See for yourself: Doomed! We are all doomed! I really don't have enough to do today.

Perhaps this is what Dan Rather meant :

Being Gay. It's Da Bomb

In light of this recent news , VUBOQ submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Air Force and received the document below. You all may thank me later for helping expose this horrible, horrible scandal.

Accent on Accessories!

Image
I'm bored. My eyeballs still hurt. Here are a few photos. Enjoy! Today's wallet: Purchased in Thailand a few years ago. Made from an old pair of Levis. Recycling! So hip! So trendy! Today's wristwear: Purchased when I worked in the Sackler Gallery of Art Gift Shop. The battery died a year or so ago. I haven't bothered to have it replaced. It's cute and it matches, so who cares?

When Yarn Chicks Attack!

Breaking News Stories: Yarn Chicks Terrorize Paris!!! [WaPo] Yarn Chicks Meet Devil Duck in Greece!! [NYT] Updated to note : A certain blogger, who shall remain nameless [Here's a hint: Her blog starts with a "G" and rhymes with "Boblinbox"], did not think that the above photos were created by VUBOQ. I offer photographic evidence in the form of a game: Spot the Yarn Chix

VUBOQ Wonders "Will This Day EVER End?"

Image
Probably not ... I bought the NYT's number one martini-making gin today, Plymouth London Dry, on sale at the local likker store for $16.99. *woot* Martinis tonight, kittens! The second most pressing question now is "What kind of olives to buy?" Regular? Garlic-stuffed? Citrus-stuffed? Oh, the complex and difficult decisions required for daily life!
