Catching Up + Pottery

Image
Good evening, Kittens! How the heck did it become March already?  On the plus side of the time flying is that it is almost the Best Day of the Year!  YAY! What happened last month?  Hmmmm ... M and I had a bit of a spat, but we made up. I went to Detroit for work.  Detroit.  In February.  I kinda hate my boss (except, I really like my boss(es) and they felt bad about sending me to Detroit, so I also get to go to Miami in May.  Oh, yeah~!).  BUT, I did get to hang out with the SuperFantastic Cuzin and (the blogger formerly known as) GayProf. As is my usual MO, I also made pottery.  Here are some photos: A flower pot, because I accidentally put my finger through the bottom while painting on the slip design ... oops An OK ish mug A teacuppy thing (obviously I need to work on my handle pulling) A Japanese-style teacup (because it was too dry to attach a handle.  bah.) A bowl with some glaze crawl (maybe it gives it p...

Weekend Update: Ann Arbor Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! First off, my horrible week at work filled with much stress and dread turned out to be not so horrible after all.  I am still proceeding with caution, but I think the worst might be over.  YAY!  Still.  I need new jerbz.  Must get out of the craziness soon. On Friday, I left work after lunch to head to Ann Arbor, MI.  My co-worker drove me to Greenbelt Metro, so I could catch the express bus to BWI.  I got to the airport super early.  I had time for a couple of glasses of wine before boarding.  Yay! Once I arrived in Detroit, my superfantastic cuzin had arranged for a car service to drive me to her house.  Yay!  Easy!  Convenient!  Comfortable! We quickly ate some Chinese take-out.  I freshened up.  And, then, we all worked our way over to GayProf's BF's house for GP's Tenure Party!  Yay for Tenure!  The party was full of boozy good times!  And lots of delicious food!...

Center of Fabulous

Good morning, Kittens. As you may well remember, yesterday, GayProf posted the beginnings of our fun little bloggy conversation . And, without further ado, here's GayProf/VUBOQ Joint Blog Post, Part II: Electric Boogaloo ... VUBOQ : Of course, you know what goes great with a vegetarian diet? BOOZE! As you may know, I love the alcohol. Fermentation is my friend. Some people, when planning a party, put a lot of thought into the food they are serving or the decorations or even which of their hundreds of sets of dishware they are going to use. For me, I concentrate on the Signature Cocktail for the evening … and the rest of the party falls into place. GayProf : So, you are saying the key to being a vegetarian is drinking to forget the pain? VUBOQ : Yes. My Signature Cocktail usually involves an infused vodka of some sort mixed with punch. As a service to my (very few) non-drinking friends, I never spike the punch. At my most recent party, I made a delicious ginger-infused vodka. The ...

Week Update: Michigan Editigan

Good Morning, Kittens! I am back from a fabulous few booze- and food-filled days visiting my fantastic cousin (and cousin-in-law) *and* GayProf in the Great Frozen Tundra ... where actually (and luckily) it was quite mild, temperature-wise. My arrival to the Frozen Tundra was uneventful. Suzanne picked me up at the airport around noon. I was still in the throes of the Worst Cold Ever, so we worked on rearranging our plans to hang out in Detroit that evening. Instead, Detroit came to us! Several of Suzanne and GayProf's friends joined us for dinner. We made chili. GayProf brought cornbread. We drank LOTS of wine. On Sunday, Suzanne and I wandered around the town. We ate lunch/brunch at Seva, a vegetarian restaurant. And, then, toured Suzanne's workplace, the Kelsey Museum . (They've recently undergone a HUGE renovation project ... and need to update their website). Later that afternoon, GayProf came over and we had cocktails (!) and played this superfun game, RoboRa...

Cuz + GayProf = Perfect Vacation

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. As you are reading this, I am heading to the airport. Yesterday afternoon, after I got home from another fabulous time with the Cuz and the GayProf , I went online to check my flight status and it said: CANCELLED!!!! (because of weather). I called the airline and they couldn't rebook me on a direct flight to DC until today. Extra Time with the Cuz! It is awesome! So, anyway, here's the rundown of my SuperFun Vacation ... I arrived on Thursday. The Cuz picked me up at the airport. We got to her house and had cocktails. Yay. Later, GayProf, who only lives a few blocks away (!), came over for dinner. We had lots of wine and pizza on the grill. And tiramisu. The next day, GayProf came over for lunch - leftover salad and prosecco. Then, we drove over to the Arboretum. It was lovely. See: Nature red in tooth and claw. We left the Arboretum to meet the Cuz, the Cuz-in-law, and some of the Cuz's co-workers/friends at Aut Bar, the gay bar in Mid...

Weekend Update: Wait 'til I Get Home Edition

Good Morning, Kittens. It's my last day in the Midwestern Funky Town. I'm meeting the SuperFantastic Cuzin and the GayProf for lunch later. Not sure if the SuperFantastic Cuzin-in-Law is coming with us. I'm flying out around 6 this evening. And will probably be back home around 9. I'll fill you in on all the exciting trip details tomorrow ... until then, here are a few pictures: Kitteh! GayProf! (I really like this picture. My guess is that he might try to exert some sort of editorial control.) SuperFantastic Cuzin Have a great day! *smooches*

Did You Feel the Earth Move? Under Your Feet?

Good Morning, Kittens! So, last night, I met GayProf ! YAY! And had a fabulous dinner with the cuzin and cuzin-in-law. It was so totally awesome I forgot to take pictures. Oops. Fortunately, the GayProf and I are hanging out today so there should be lots of fun photo opportunities. Now, I have to get to work on writing a fantastic cover letter for a totally fabulous job opportunity which has fallen into my lap. Fingers Crossed! *smooches* ps. As always, I will be twittering and facebooking throughout the day!

Blame It on the GayProf

Updated with the ANSWERS ... Yeah. So, GayProf did this little contesty meme thing about song lyrics. Since I participated in his, I feel obligated to do my own. Here are his rules: Here are the [adapted] rules for the meme: 1) Put your mp3 player or music player on your computer on random. 2)Post the first four lines from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song (Skip repeat artists). 3) Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from. Leave your guesses in the comments. Some of mine are going to be very hard. Try not to cheat by googling the lyrics. You have all weekend. Good luck. *smooch* [oh, and some songs I couldn't find the lyrics, so I skipped them. whatever.] 1. Nothing's gonna stop me Only you can stop me Yonaka no san-ji a.m. Makura moto no PHS Naru no matte 'ru Baka-mitai ja nai -- Movin' on without You , Utada Hikaru 2. A la luna de Valencia, me robaste el corazon. Lo tiraste contra la Albuferay en ...

I Sound My Barbaric Yawp

Back in those heady days of diary-x, I posted a poem I wrote. I can't remember it exactly, and I spent a good part of this morning looking for another copy. Alas, it seems to have been disappeared. Perhaps, that is for the best. The gist of the poem was that throughout my life I've felt the need to start anew, to shed my skin and move on - meeting new people, trying new things, new places. As I reflected on the events of this year thus far, I'm beginning to feel like, not the shiny, new person, but the cast-off skin. It's an interesting sensation, one that I'm not accustomed to feeling. I spent a good portion of last night trying to figure out how to remedy it. I'm still drawing a blank. But, I now know that booze isn't the answer ;-) [I kid, I only had one drink last night.] I am wondering though if standing in the middle of Sligo Creek Park and sounding my barbaric yawp would help. [Cue Ethan Hawke] Anyway, in more interesting (?) -or at least, (sli...

A Prescriptivist Approach to Life

This is what happens when someone dates a linguist. After ranting about the travesty of spelling that some environmental groups are inflicting on the children of the world (Won't someone think of the children ?), Y declared that I am a prescriptivist . And I agree. I do believe in the rules of language and spelling. I'm not entirely averse to those rules changing and modifying to adapt to an evolving culture, but come on environmental groups. DaVersity ? DAversity? Are you trying to KILL me? My impending death by misspelling travesty aside, I wonder if my prescriptivist nature transcends language and influences my daily life. The simple answer would be "yes." The more complex answer would be "um. I'll have to get back to you on this later." And that's what I'm going to do. The absolutely silly thing about this post is that I got to thinking about this after reading a post on Joe.My.God . I don't usually read his blog, being that i...

A Lovely Time Was Had By All

After work yesterday, I went home, fed the psychokitty, packed an overnight bag, and headed to Y's. We had a good talk about the speed our relationship seems to be developing. Fortunately, we both are comfortable with it. So far. He made dinner - taboule, cheese and, then, pasta. We watched Casanova on DVD. We had fun. And lots of it. I am tired. I am not going out tonight, because I need to catch up on my sleep. Martini. Movie. Knitting. Tomorrow, a few of the kittens are driving up to Baltimore for Saturday Afternoon Margaritas: Baltimore Edition II! *woot* No plans for Sunday yet. Depending on our state of intoxication, we may all be spending the night in Baltimore. I'm looking forward to a mildly relaxing weekend. Yay. Oh, and *Happy Birthday Smooches to GayProf *
