Weekend Update: The Best Day of the Year Edition

Image
Hello, Kittens! I hope you all remembered that Monday was the Best Day of the Year!  And, I had a super-fantastic 4-day weekend to celebrate it! On Friday, I picked up the rental car and, after running a few errands (in which a "few errands" means "eating lunch and buying booze"), I drove to pick up Mike (Who Makes Cakes).  Then, we drove to pick up my cuddly little boo bear, M. And, then, we all drove to Virginia Beach. It. Took. For. EVER! Once we arrived, we checked in to our fabulous resort hotel and, then, went out to dinner. I may have had a few cocktails. Then, Mike (Who Makes Cakes) and I chilled in the hotel bar, whilst M (who may have had a few too many cocktails) went to bed.  Boo Bear just can't hang with the big boys ;-)  LOLz. Saturday was ABSO-fucking-LUTELY gorgeous.  After breakfast, we walked to the Virginia Beach Convention Center so I could pick up my (and Tomokito's) Shamrock Half Marathon runner's packets. Mike (Wh...

Weekend Update: Norfolk Edition

Image
Happy Snowy Tuesday, Kittens! Over the weekend, M and I went to Norfolk.  I am not really sure why, other than neither of us had been there before. It is not very likely that either of us will ever go there again. There doesn't really seem like there is much to do in Norfolk.  We did some sightseeing.  We ate at some pretty good restaurants.  For the size of the city, they had a surprising amount of vegan/vegetarian friendly places.  We had dinner on Saturday night at an Italian place that had a separate vegan menu.  And, dinner on Sunday night, was the buffet at an Indian restaurant.  If I could remember the names of the places, I'd tell you ... y'know, just in case you ever find yourself hungry in Norfolk. We didn't arrive until early Saturday evening, so we really only had time to check into the hotel (the Norfolk Plaza), which was nice enough, although it had seen better days. On Sunday morning, we went for a 2.5 mile run.  It was ...

Move Along. Nothing to See Here.

Hello, Beautiful Kittens.  I hope you had a wonderful December.  Apparently, there was a holiday or something recently.  I was in North Carolina for the aforementioned holiday.  My mother forced us all to wear elf hats as we opened presents (on Xmas Eve, because I flew back home on Xmas morning). I had a good Xmas.  I received some very nice gifts.  My parents helped to pay for my new spectacles and for another session of pottery class.  My brother and his GF gifted me with lots of colorful socks and a cookie press.  Plus some other things.  And, once I got back to DC, I had a fantastic XXXmas with M.  In addition to copious amounts of teh hot buttsecks,we watched a lot of streaming movies on the Netflix, including The Hobbit, White Christmas, and Blackfish. Yeah.  It seems like we are in it for the long haul.  He gave me Apples to Apples (which, he reminded me, we played at a game night with Mike (Who Makes Cakes...

The Boys of Thanksgiving

Image
Hello, Kittens.  What up? Things in VUTOPIA are about the same as always ... work is fun, but superbizzybizzy.  Pottery class has ended until next year.  Sad Facez.  I am still taptaptappin' away.  I missed the most recent class because I had a cold.  Yuck! So, you may not have noticed, but there was a holiday recently.  We call it Thanksgiving.  And, as is our tradition, my building held our 3rd Annual 10(ish)K and Brunch.  This year, because our normal hosts moved, I hosted the brunch.  It was fun.  My apartment looked like this: I made tofu scramble, pumpkin coffee cake, and baked egg casserole with spinach, mushrooms, and salsa: I also had cheese and crackers and a varied assortment of homemade pickles and sauces. Other people brought delicious foods as well! Bread! Fruit salad! Vegan sausages!  And lots and lots and lots of champagne. It was all quite tasty and fun!  But, I was quite happy when ...

Holiday Update: Xmas Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! Previously, on VUBOQ, I was wandering the streets causing random cars to burst into flames ... well, apparently, I have a new SuperPower. But, enough about that!  Things were superbusy crazypants up until I left for Greensboro, NC after work last Friday.  Luckily, my flight was on time, and I arrived on time, in one piece, and slightly tipsy (yay for airport barz). Friday night, I went to one of my brother's friend's birthday party.  I knew a couple people.  It was fun-ish.  The beer was cheap.  And, then, since I was starving, we left the party and grabbed some food.  Yay food! Saturday, I met some of my college friends for lunch at the Village Tavern.  $5 martinis all day on Saturday! WOO HOO!!! My BFF from college (24 years and going strong) gave me some fun Elon gear.  Go Fighting Christian Phoenixes! Saturday afternoon, the parental units arrived.  I took a nap. On Saturday night, the water ...

Thanksgiving Update: Whole Lot to Be Thankful for Edition

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens!  I hope you had a delightful Thanksgiving and are using the rest of the weekend to relax and exercise off all those excess calories you consumed ... as for me, my Thanksgiving holiday has been possibly one of the Best EVER! On Wednesday afternoon, I got some VERY  GOOD news (which I will be sharing later once everything is signed and official). THEN, M in Las Vegas texted asking if I would be home on Thursday, because he wanted to pick up the car. Um.  WHAT?  "Are you in town," I asked.  He said he would be but was driving from DC to his family's in NC.  CRAZY PANTS! Later that evening, another M (this one local) called saying he and a friend were in the neighborhood and could they stop by.  "Sure," I said. When they got here, the friend stayed in the car.  Weird.  But, whatever.  So M and I chatted for a minute.  And then ended up having superhot buttsecks while his friend sat in the car waiting ......

Progress

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! How about that 4th of July, huh?  What a crazy riot of fun!  I stayed on the sofa ALL DAY and watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (extended editions).  I made serious progress on my knitting project (pictured).  At the rate I'm going, I *may* finish the scarf before it gets to be winter ... we'll see. I am currently reading Game of Thrones, Book 3.  It's a surprisingly good series; however, I've getting very frustrated with one character's storyline right now.  So, I may have to put the book down for a bit to give myself a break.  Anyone else into this series?  For dinner last night, I made this: Spicy Tomato and Cucumber Salad, Sauteed Green and Yellow Squash with Basil and Pinenuts, and Rice with Red Quinoa Very American, what with the squash and the tomatoes and the quinoa, right? As for my back, it still hurts.  I am able to get up and move around, which is good.  I think I may have overdone ...

Oh, Hai. It's March.

Image
Good Evening, Kittens. As you may remember, last year, I participated in the Puntabugang Swimsuit Calendar ( Hello, I'm Mr. December ). This year, the theme of the Calendar is Holidays . And, I am March, which has the Best Day of the Year and the Best Holiday of the Year in it. And, they just so happen to be the same day! Wow. How did that happen? Fortunately for all of us, I am showing A LOT less skin this year, but -thanks to the incomparable photoshop skillz of Michelle M- my photo is still SUPERCUTEZ. Oh, yeah. I'm at the end of the rainbow, bitches. We weren't able to find photos of shirtless Leprechauns to dance around me, but I think it's a fun photo even without them. I've already committed to next year's calendar! Can't wait to find out what the theme is ... I hope it isn't something like "S&M Fantasies" ... or maybe that could be fun. Have a great night! *smooches*

What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?

Good Morning, Kittens! It's the last workday of the year! YAY! And, there are only two of us in the office today. YAY! All I have to do is pound out my monthly report for December and, then, I am surfing the internetz for the rest of the day. SUH-weet. So, last night, I had a first date with this guy, R, who I met on OKCupid. He seems nice enough, but he, like the few other guys I have met on that site, has the slight whiff of desperation about him. Or something. Or a tinge of the crazy. I'm not sure what it says about me since I am also on the site. Or maybe I am sure, but I am unwilling to admit it. ANYWAY, we met at the Clarendon metro station (in Arlington ... where I did see some guy wearing brown flip-flops (um? hello? it was 30 degrees outside. Put on some fucking shoes and sucks, douchebag!)). On the way to the little coffeeshop place, I unexpectedly ran into my friend, Carolyn. So totally random! She got a new (and awesome) job in Pennsylvania and is only...

Weekend Update: Xmas Edition

Good morning, Kittens. It's a lonely morning here at the office. Where is everyone? I have no idea. Possibly still sleeping off their holiday hangovers ... which is where I wish I could be. Oh, well ... Anyway, I had a pretty good weekend in NC. My flight on Thursday was uneventful and on time! Yay! So, I arrived around 9:30PM. My parents picked me up. We went back to my brother's house. I ate a sandwich and went to bed. Good times. Friday, the highlight of the day was meeting several college friends at the Village Tavern. It was great fun to see them, catch up, and hang out. In the evening, the brother, his GF, and I went to a Christmas Eve Eve drinkfest at some bar. Good times. Saturday, I cooked dinner - Winter Vegetable Sheperd's Pie. I posted the recipe on Facebook a few days ago, I think. Anyway, it was quite tasty. Then, we went to an evening Xmas Eve service. Yes, I went inside a church ... and SURVIVED! Xmas morning, we all opened our presents. I ...

Holiday Update: Now With Some Pictures Edition

Image
Good Evening, Kittens! And, here is my eagerly awaited Holiday Update with Photos. Yay! So, my trip began, as some trips do, at Dulles International Airport, where after passing through security (and having to remove my sweatshirt ... y'know, because their high-tech metal detectors can't "see" through thick jersey?), I boarded the cute little train to Terminal A. As I exited the train, I thought, "Oh, shit. I had a rollybag carry-on." Yes, your hero, left one of his bags at the security checkpoint. Oops. Of course, I have an excuse (or two). 1. I was pissed at having to remove my sweatshirt, so the gathering of all my scattered clothes combined with having to get dressed distracted me, and (b) I very rarely have a carry-on rollybag. Normally, I have one carry-on because I've checked a bag (one of the perks of business travel = they pay for that checked bag! Yay! More shoes for my tripz!). ANYWAY, so I had to schlep back to security to get my b...

Weekend Update: Thanksgiving Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! and, weeeeeee're back. Who missed me the most? So, the four-day weekend was Chock Full o' FUN and ADVENTURE ... actually, I spend most of it like Isabella, curled up on the sofa. I watched movies. I knat. I drank. like. a. fucking. fish. Oh, hello, Glass of Wine, who is helping me type. Thursday (aka Thanksgiving), I got up EARLY (like 6AM) to run the Turkey Chase 10K with some of my neighbors. I finished in 1:03:22, which is not too bad considering the course is HILLY and it was COLD and WET out. After the run, we went to K-Factor's for a delicious brunch. Mimosas! Coffee with Candy Cane Vodka! Brunch ended, and I headed downstairs to nap and knit and nap and knit and cook. I had Thanksgiving Dinner at my neighbors' apartment. I made braised butternut squash with pesto pasta: and spicy sauteed brussels sprouts with hazelnuts: Nomz. Friday and Saturday were lots of the same - food, booze, knitting, naps, shopping, food, booze, naps, knitt...

Weekend Update: It's Still Going On Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! What a weekend. Like, *whew* ... I am exhausted. AND, there is still EVEN MOAR fun on tap for today. So, Thursday, after nearly being mugged on the train home from work, one of the Alphabet Boys ("I") texted. He wanted to come over. I said no. Thursday night was ME Night. I made a delicious dinner of tofu, bok choy, and mushroom stirfry (using my own homemade habenero hot sauce). And, I had a bottle of prosecco. And, I watched the 3.5 hour Bollywood Extravaganza, Khabi Khushi Khabie Gham . It was amazing. Then, I went to bed and finished reading the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay . Friday, I had a hair appointment. Yay. After that, I met Mike Who Makes Cakes for Lunch. When I got home, I had a package: Glitter Bandages! from an anonymous stalker! YAY! They are so fun. Thanks, Mystery Anonymous Stalker Person! I wore one out to da clubz. Which is what I did Friday evening, Eric from Baltimore and I met Tomokito at th...

Weekend Update: Labor Day Edition

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens. Sorry for the delayed posting. Work was insane busy this morning. Too. Many. Meetings. And, I have somehow caught some sort of germykillercoldvirusfromhell (which is why you are looking at a photo of soup). Mmm. Soup. Anywayz .... my weekend was long and full of boozy good times. In fact, I can barely remember what I did at the beginning of the weekend. Except, of course, that my Thursday night date with D went very very well and we had lots of fun. (In fact, I was supposed to go to his house after work today, but *ugh* the sickness I haz it.) So, Friday, I did manage to make to to the pottery studio. I glazed my five mugs. I doubt they will be fired anytime soon though. Oh, well. Later that evening, Tomokito came down and we made cocktails using the habenero-infused tequila. Spicy! Saturday, I canceled my "date" with C. No desire to battle the crazy public transportation situation. I knat a bit. I went for a run. I spent most of my i...

Weekend Update: Suburban 4th Edition

Image
Hello, Kittens! Did we all have a fabulous, SuperSparkly 4th of July? I hope we did! As for me, my weekend was chock full of boozy, delicious fun! On Friday, I spent the morning/afternoon doing housework-type things ... like laundry and mowing/weeding the lawn. And, taking some pants to the tailor to be hemmed. In the evening, I met A (the guy who looks like the Cheating Cheater) for drinks/dinner at Nellie's. Boozy fun. Although, this was our first "date" ... I guess. Normally, he just comes over here for hours of teh hot secks. Now, we are having, like, conversations and stuff. I'm not sure if I like where this is going ;-) ... Srsly. I like him. But, I don't know if he's the kind of person I want to *really* like. Friend w/ Benefits or regular FB would be good. Something more? I'm not so sure... Saturday morning, he left to go to work. I blobbed around the house. Then, SCGB and I headed out to (near) Greenbelt for a birthday party. It w...

I Spare You the Photos. Srsly

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. OK. I do share with you one photo. My new earring. I bought it in Denver. It is turquoise. And triangular. And it replaces my "rainbow" earring that I wear during pride month. *sigh* June is over. I can't be proud anymore. ANYWAY, yesterday was pretty cool. My office conducted a four-hour training at one of our sites. I gave an (approximately) 30-minute presentation on that site's energy use and how to save energy. If I do say so myself, I was brilliant. The participants seemed engaged and (as proven by a little quiz/game we did at the end of the four hours) the information seemed to have stayed with them. Let me just say that, although I did not enjoy being a high school teacher (so many many years ago), the skills I acquired during that time are pretty damn useful. After the training, my officemates and I went out to lunch. When we got back to the office, we learned that the General had approved Early Release. At 2PM. We got ba...

Weekend Update: Memorial Day Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. What a weekend, full of fun and learning experiences. For example, I learned that (1) I really should keep my mouth shut in certain situations and (2) I am a total whore ;-) So, the ComboBirthday Party on Friday was awesome. The chili-infused vodka was a Big Hit. Yay. The ex-BFF didn't show up. Yay. And I can't say I'm surprised. Apparently his dislike of me overpowers his desire to spend time with mutual friends on their birthday. Whatever. Luuuuzer. And, there was a small incident with SCGB's on-again-off-again BF. He said something insulting to SCGB and thought it was very clever. So, I said something similar (and insulting, but FUNNEH) to/about him a few minutes later. He got pissed off and left the party. Pretty thin-skinned for a lawyer. Oh, well. After we left the party, SCGB, Tomokito, Eric from Baltimore and I spent some time eating yummy cheese and boozing it up in my apartment. FUN! Saturday morning, Tomokito and I went to s...

I <3 Cashews

Good Evening, Kittens! I hope you had a brilliant day. Mine was chock full of rainbows and glitter and unicorns and pixie dust. Or not. I'm in the midst of a semi-important work project ... and another HIGH PRIORITY!!!!! work project has been ceremoniously dumped in my lap. Of course, the only reason it is HIGH PRIORITY !!!OMGWTFPONIEZZZZ!!!11111elevenz is because other people have been sitting around on their asses for 6 months. Yay. On the plus side, I am learning all sorts of interesting things about heating systems. Meanwhile, last night I went to dinner with my friend, CJ. I invited Ray to join us as well, but he was busy. We went to MatchBox in Eastern Market and ate. ourselves. silly. OMG. So much food. the bloat! the bloat! My skin is superdry. I hate the winter. I am ready for Spring. New Year's Eve is fast approaching and I have tentative plans with ScooterGuy. We may go to one of his friend's homes for a party. OR, ScooterGuy may go to Florida to vi...

Good Morning, Kittens. I hope you are recovering from your weekend activities. I know I am going through the complete Family Detox. Whew. Love my family, but -srsly- 2.5 days of them all together in one place is just about right. So, anyway, on Xmas Morning, I awoke, really really early to bus and metro to the airport. I felt like total crap. Stupid cold. DC National Airport (DCA) was pretty dead and going through security was a breeze. Lots of cute boys apparently travel on Xmas Morning. Yayz. I arrived in Greensboro. My brother and father picked me up. We went back to the house. I wrapped presents and drank lots and lots of coffee. Then, we opened presents. From the brother, I got a Barnes and Noble Gift Card (yay!). From the parents, I got an argyle sweater , a shirt and tie, a Target Gift Card, some moneyz, and several pieces of pottery. I know it probably seems weird to give *me* more pottery, but I have several blue and white serving dishes from a NC potter. That ...

Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas

Good Evening, Kittens. Well, I did it. I finished StickSteven 2009 Year in Review: Better Late Than Never Edition . I have emailed a high resolution image to people I thought might like to have it. If you didn't get one, it's possibly b/c I don't have your email address ... or I somehow skipped over your name. Drop me an email or leave a comment and I'll get one to you tout de suite . Although, since I am not traveling with Iris the Netbook tomorrow and I'm leaving v. early in the morning, it might not be as tout de suite as one would like. Apologies. There is a crappy digicamera pic on flickr. Meanwhile, I think I'm coming down with a cold. Joy. Fortunately, Manhattans are good for colds, right? OK. I guess that's it. I'll be updating twitter/facebook from my phone. I may be able to respond if my brother has connected the internet in the new house. We shall see ... Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it. To those of you who don...
