Weekend Update: Inaugural Edition

Good Evening, Kittens!

I feel like I skipped a weekend, but did you really want to read about my crazy sex-filled weekend?  I didn't think so ...

So, on with the show!

This weekend was uberfuntastic!

On Friday, Jake from NYC came to visit from NYC.  I met him at the Union Station.  While waiting for him, my co-worker and I had drinks at a bar in the station.  A second story bar.  That kept swaying whenever a train passed through.  Um. Queasiness!

Also, the beer they served was bad.

ANYWAY, Jake arrived safely.  We came back to Silver Spring and had dinner (somewhere ... hm.  I don't remember where).

Then, on Saturday, V from Philly came down.  The three of us chilled out for a bit.  Then, had lunch at Adega.  Nomz.

That evening, we decided to head into town.  V from Philly looked up metro directions to the bar (Number 9 on P Street), and I remember looking at those directions and thinking "Hm.  I haven't been that way before.  So maybe it will be an exciting new adventure."

It was!  BECAUSE, the directions took us to 9 P St.  Not the bar Number 9.  We were over a mile away from the bar.  Oops.  BUT, as luck would have it.  We were also very near Mike (Who Makes Cakes)'s house.  We stopped by there.  Mike opened champagne.  We drank it while watching "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" ... which, if you can suspend belief in research lab protocols, was pretty entertaining.

Then, we took the bus to Logan Circle area and ate dinner at ... um ... some Mexican place.  Veggie Enchiladas!  YAY!

Then, we went home and watched "Kill Bill, Vol. 1," because someone (V from Philly) had never seen it.  WTF?

The next day (aka Sunday) we drove over to Bethesda for lunch at Taylor's Gourmet.  Sandwiches.  V from Philly wanted to try it because the owners are from Philly and all the sandwiches and salads are named after streets/parks/landmarks there.  We had the Wharton St (which is the street V from Philly lives on).  Tasty.  Ish.

After that, Jake went to the museums and V from Philly and I went to the Dogfish Head Alehouse in Gaithersburg (so. far. away).  V from Philly is a HUGE beer nut.  So, we had to try lots of beers.  And watch football.

I am sad because the Falcons lost.  I was totally hoping for a Falcons vs. Ravens BATTLE OF THE BIRDS SUPER BOWL!  Wouldn't that have been awesome?  Tippi Hedren could've done the coin toss!  (She's still alive, y'know.  The Birds didn't kill her ...)

I also came up with the idea of Dogfishing ... using the Dogfish Head coasters as a filter for photos.  Too fun.  Here's a Dogfished bag of potato chips:

And here's Dogfished Me:

We got back to Casa de Esteban and ordered pizza.  Yum.  Pizza.  And I made V from Philly watch Kill Bill, Vol. 2.

Jake didn't get home until late from all of his fun-ness.

On Monday, we decided to try to find a place to have brunch and watch the Inauguration (mainly because (1) Brrr.  It was cold and (2) We didn't get up early enough to deal with the lines and security).

We got reservations at Ulah Bistro on U Street, which was perfect! And, in a totally Only in DC Moment, during the Inaugural Address, the practically packed bar/restaurant was dead silent.  It was awesome.  At one point, someone dropped her fork and this guy beside us shushed her.  HA!  (He told her he was joking.  It was funny).

After Brunch with Obama (on the TV), Jake headed to the parade.  V from Philly and I wandered through some shops and then went to Nellie's.

Where guess who we ran into?  Mike (Who Makes Cakes)!  I swear he is totally stalking me.

More boozy good times.  Then, V from Philly and I left.  Had dinner in Silver Spring at the Quarry House.  Came back to my place.  Jake was already back.

V from Philly left.  Jake and I went to a cute little Thai place so he could grab some grub.

And, then, back home to get ready for a busy (not really) work week.

My job ends on Friday!  YAY!
New one starts on Monday!  Double YAY!

Hope your weekend was just as delightful!

Big News

Good morning, kittens.

If you are my friend on the facebooks, you have already heard my Big News so just play along like this is all new information.

On Friday, I submitted my 2-week notice.  Yay!  I am leaving the current job which is full of the crazy people, the stupid people, and the people who do things that are downright illegal.  YAY!

I received my initial offer letter for my new job the week before Thanksgiving.  BUT, because I had to do some security stuffs, I didn't get official notification until last Friday.  I will be part of a team of 5 people who facilitate the nationwide environmental programs for a government agency.   I won't tell you the name of the government agency but it rhymes with Rug Renforcement Ragency.

It is a contract position.  My new company is a small contracting company based in Alabama.  The staff there all have cute Southern accents.  The contract is for five years.  Yay!  Job security!

Plus, I am getting a HUGE raise (like almost 50%).  The benefits are not as good as my current company's, but ... um ... I think the HUGE raise will make up for that.  YAY!

I think the commute might be a little shorter, too!

On the downside, I will no longer have my two Mondays off per month.  Boo.  But, with shorter working hours and a slightly shorter commute, maybe I will have time to do things in the evening now.  Yay!

So, anyway, it's a very exciting time as I transition out of my current crazypants position and prepare for a new adventure.  With 25% travel! To exciting places ... like Philadelphia!  And other places (I haven't been informed of all my sites yet)!  Yay!

And, now, I will stop rambling.

I'll fill you in on my weekend later ... but here's a teaser:  It was a boozy, sex-filled romp of a weekend!

Sickbed Update: I'm Sick Edition

*cough* *cough* *hack* *sneeze*, Kittens!

And, greetings from my Sickbed!  I have been homebound since Wednesday after work.  Slight fever.  Bad cough.  Gross, snotty nose.  It has been really good times.

Also, I am bored.

I have read the entire Percy Jackson series.  I watched all three Lord of the Rings movies (extended editions!).  I am still flipping through the cocktail book pictured above, which Tomokito gave me for Xmas.  And, I'm also still looking through the vegetarian cookbook Michelle M sent me.  Yay!  I purchased "Cloud Atlas" for my nook.  I read "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoe" by the same author and really enjoyed it.  I haven't started reading "Cloud Atlas" yet, because I need to finish "Diet for a Hot Planet" first.

But, mostly, I blob on the sofa (or my bed), drinking Magic Elixir, blowing my nose, coughing like there's no tomorrow, and sometimes falling asleep.

I was too sick to go to "Million Dollar Quartet" at the Kennedy Center last night.  Boo.

And, I have no energy to clean my home ... which needs to be done soon.  I am having houseguests in two weeks.  GAH!

Also, I need to start training for the NYC Half Marathon (on the Best Day of the Year!) ...

AND, at some point the new kitchen project starts up.  CRAZYPANTS!

I guess that's all my news.  Time for some more green tea with lemon and honey!

Weekend Update: It's a New Year Edition!

Good Evening, Kittens!  And Happy (motherfucking) New Year!  2013!  Can I get a "w00t w00t?"

ANYWAYz, my weekend was pretty awesome (and five days long!).  Friday was my flex-day.  I spent most of the day running errands and stuff.  Very exciting.  In the evening, my co-worker and I had tickets to see "White Christmas" at the Kennedy Center.  However, she texted to say that she had the flu!  GAH!  So, I had to find a replacement date!  Everyone I asked already had plans.  I eventually texted R, the young and well-hung ex-Marine, and -as it turns out- he was free for the evening.

So he was my very sexy date to see "White Christmas" ... which was absolutely amazing!  YAY!  I'm still sort of singing "Sisters.  Sisters" in my head.

Saturday, I ran errands for most of the morning and afternoon.  I also pickled a shit-ton (metric) of CSA radishes:

Giant jar of pickled radishes.

And, then, in the afternoon, I headed to Union Station to begin my trip to Philadelphia, the City of Brothers Who Love!

V from Philly picked me up at 30th Street Station, and we went back to his place so I could freshen up.  Then, we walked over to his South Philly (sort of) neighbor, Lora's annual Holiday Bash-o-Rama.  Boozy Good Times.  And perhaps the most delicious cookies (Eggnog Cookies) that I have ever eaten in my life.  Lots of food.  Tons of Booze!  Really great people.  Here is the one picture I took at the party ...

We may (or may not) have started doing shots of bourbon

I really thought we left the party early, but the following day, when I woozily checked my phone.  It seemed we didn't get home until 12:45.  Someone (and that someone was me) was a little fuzzy for most of the morning (and some of the afternoon).

V from Philly went to get donuts for us from Federal Donuts.  Yum.

And, then, we went shopping.  I needed to buy something fun to wear to the New Year's Eve parties (yes.  parties) we were planning to attend.  We ended up at Macy's and I bought a sparkly bowtie.

Then, we worked our way to Society Hill, where we met a group of V from Philly's friends and we went to a show at the Society Hill Playhouse, "Cooking with the Calamari Sisters."  It was funny.  I laughed.  And, then, we went to eat at some brewery/restaurant.  I had a falafel burger.  It was ok.

On the way home, we stopped at a german brewery type place.

Monday, V from Philly had to work.  So, I slept in, and, then, walked over to Lora's to chat and eat and drink and chat.  And, then, chat some more.

I got back to V from Philly's around 2ish.  And, since I had purchased a bowtie, I needed to learn how to tie the fucking thing.  So, he showed me.  It took many hours and hours of practice, but I did it:

After we got all that figured out, we showered and got ready for our first event, a Fireworks Viewing Party in Society Hill.  We were a little early, so we stopped at a bar for a drink.  And, then, walked to the party.  The host other guests were from V from Philly's running group.  We drank.  We ate.  We watched the fireworks from the 29th floor (see photo at the beginning of this post).  Then, we hopped in a cab to head back to V from Philly's place for a costume change before the next party.

After getting all gussied up, we walked to V from Philly's friends' awesome place somewhere (near the art museum, I think).  They have the penthouse apartment.  Pretty sweet. The wife is a certified hula hoop instructor (did you know there was even such a thing?).  We dropped off some booze and a dip that V made, had a few drinks, and, then, walked over to another party about 2 blocks away.  That party was full of V from Philly's running group friends.  It was a total bachelor pad.  It smelled.  I was scared to sit down.  But, the people were super-friendly.  We chatted.  We drank.  I was a little nervous about the food.

Around 11-ish, we decided to head back to the penthouse party (the food was not so scary.  and it didn't smell). We chatted.  We drank.  We ate.  We drank more.  Midnight came.  We hugged.  We kissed.  We started drinking champagne straight from the bottle.

At some point, V from Philly said, "I am drunk.  Let's go home."  And, even though we had a ride home line up, he didn't want  wait.  So, we took a cab home.  We got home.  V from Philly passed out on the bed.  I stayed up for a bit.  Had another beer.  Reflected on the year.  And then went to bed.

When I woke up this morning?  Very.  Over.  Hung.  Blurgh.  Champagne.  I blame the champagne. V from Philly made breakfast (eggs and grits) and coffee.  I discovered I had a string of bugbites on my shoulder and back.  I hope they aren't bedbug bites.

We decided to go for a run.  And, we passed by some of the Mummers Parade.  The run really helped my hangover.  We got back.  I looked at the time.  And kind of freaked.  I only had about an hour before I needed to head to the train station.

Luckily, I got to the station just in time (and I even was able to squeeze in a little more "fun" with V from Philly before leaving).  The train ride was uneventful.  Now I am home, dreading going back to work tomorrow ... but I guess I will survive.

Hope everyone had a fun weekend and that 2013 is SuperWonderful for you all :-)
